  1. I guess it's just more internet weirdness. :dunno:
  2. Minuit, I was poking around the interwebs and found this, but I cannot match it to anything you have posted, Do you know what it is? 96 Jeep Cherokee radio part number 153406920 (no pic was included). Maybe I just missed it. Can you help?
  3. It's the push button on the exterior handle. It pushed in and would not spring out. I had to cut away some of the sheet metal to even get my hands in there to feel around, because you cannot see in there due to the window track. I have the button and the spring that goes on it, but there is no way for me to reattach that thing. The other issue is the linkage to the interior door handle. The silver one that opens the door. The lock toggle was not too bad to rehook, but the other one I cannot figure how to get it back on. Is there a tut on replacing the exterior handle? I sure can't find one.
  4. Is it even worth it? Spent eight hours yesterday trying to fix my passenger door where the stupid ext. push button stopped working. All I have done is make it worse! The dang button fell out, can't reattach the the freaking lock innards, can't see anything in the door, can't get my dang hands into that tiny-arse cavity to do anything, cut the opening larger, that only resulted in scratching my hands all up, still can't reach or see what I'm doing! What the heck?! Am I missing something, or is this crap just not user-serviceable?
  5. Had a used AW4 installed and now I have a pronounced whine in the cab. Did not have it before. Fluid is good. My mechanic is also looking into it. Any idears?
  6. Right. All I need now is a schematic showing me what you just said! Like many MJ owners, I have a lot of lines that are loose, missing, rerouted. I'd just like to have a better way to understand what's what. Versus, searching through hundreds of posts and images that may or may not be relevant. And, not everyone has the same needs. Meaning, I want my cruise to work and some don't. It's my understanding that it's a vacuum issue. I don't want to disable one thing that adversely effects another.
  7. I've seen many images from FSM and the like, but what I'm looking for is a detailed map of the lines for the renix era 4.0. Not just the layout, but lines labled as to what they're for. And, it would be awesome if it included which lines my not be needed. If this does not exist, then I would be glad to work with other members here to put one together.
  8. Glad he found his answer. I swear I think we could have a dedicated forum just for the "What line is it, anyway?" Category.
  9. My two-cents as a new MJ owner. I love my 88 truck! Fun to drive, drives nice, rides nice, 4.0 is solid. You WILL spend money on it, so get a "good" one for the lowest price possible. Beware of sellers. There will be liars. They will be taking advantage of the minor collect-ability of these trucks. If you have access to a non-partial mechanic, take them with you. Go over every square inch. Look for rust, drips, stains, new paint, new screws, anything that looks too new, out of place or clearly not stock should be questioned. If the sellers gets pissed that you're asking so many questions, that's your cue to walk away. These trucks are for "wants" not "needs". While it will easily do all the things you need it to do, you'll want to do said things in an MJ. Again, even though I may sound a bit negative, I love mine. I just don't think they are for everybody.
  10. Ah. That's why they wrote, "Manufacturing tolerances". Got it.
  11. Understood. However, the "Jeep" version should fit any unmolested, er. . . I mean, unmodified MJ. :teehee: Correct?
  12. "What a fantastic radio! I wish these were more common than they are." So do I! I've come to the conclusion that I prefer the understated look of car stereos from the 80s and 90s. I especially like the separate bass and treble controls, or better yet, a small three-band EQ! At my age, I prefer to make adjustments on the fly vs having to push buttons and scroll through menus. BTW, Minuit, were ignition noise suppressors commonly installed on these OEM systems?
  13. Late reply, but I wanted to share what I was told about this particular issue. Before I bought my used one, I called a transmission shop in Va. and spoke with the owner. This guy has many, many years as a tranny builder. First thing he tells me is, "You won't want me to rebuild that transmission." He tells me that the AW4 has evolved a lot over the years and that the old ones just aren't in demand anymore. That's part of it. The other part is that the 80's AW4 is a complicated trans to rebuild, so the labor really adds up. His price was high at $2500, but I'm sure it would have been done right had I done it. Hope this helps.
  14. I figured as much. I wouldn't ask you a "money" question in an open forum. However, how often do you see the AM/FM only decks?
  15. Very cool! Also cool that one guy created ALL the drawings!
  16. Appreciate the replies. However, what I was really wondering is, can you just slide the seat off the rails? Like in older VWs. where you can just hold the under-seat adjuster and slide the whole seat off and out of the car. I was thinking that the age and simplicity of the bench seat may let it happen. I couldn't find a lever that would release the seat. Looks like the replies here suggest it's not so easy.
  17. I've read the posts about removing the bench, rails/sliders and all. However, can I just remove the seat and leave the sliders in? Just I can get under the dash easier? I can't seem too find that option, but it must be possible.
  18. Awesome! :rock on: Thanks for all the replies! Should be able to fix this now!
  19. Yeah, I decided that I would go the used route. @75sv1, I did call B&T, but their trans was still in the vehicle, so I went with Stewart's Salvage in Stony Point. $200, 30 day warranty. Picked it up today. Thanks to those who chimed-in!
  20. Thanks for chiming in. I have a column shift.
  21. So lower section of dash should be off?
  22. Hey, my 88 Renix era auto shift marker has suddenly stopped lining up with the correct letter. I saw a similar post from a while back on this, but it really didn't address my current issue. I'm wondering why it's off and how to fix it. Thanks
  23. My trans is crapping out. I've been calling and searching for options, but I keep wimping out on pulling the trigger because I don't want to get ripped off, again. 88 MJ, Auto, 4wd, 4.0 AW4. Used $200 and up. 30 Day warranty. Very often the mileage is unknown. Actual internal condition is not known. Rebuild what i have for $1300 and up. OUCH! Quality varies. Warranties vary. Reman for HOLY SH#T!!! Decent warranty though. Advance Auto through Moveras offers a reman for maybe $1800. Not sure on price. Apparently, AA has to call Moveras and they have the current price. Like ordering fresh seafood or something? Then there's Car Monkeys. I can get a used and tested tranny for $789.99 shipped to my mechanic with a 5 year warranty. Sounds like a deal, but I have no experience with them. And Low Mileage Parts offers used and tested with a 5 year warranty shipped to my mechanic for $469.99? However, lots a bad reviews for these guys. Any advice, experience, etc. Would be helpful. Thanks
  24. Minuit, A related, but different, question about the stereo arena. What is your opinion on aftermarket antennas? I live in a mountainous area and my FM reception is, well, it sucks! I know that my geography cannot be improved, but I wonder if any of the carbon fiber, aluminum, short, rubber or "amplified" antennas actually work.
