What Minuit knows about stock Jeep radios
NC Tom replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
That was going to be one of my questions. Do you resell or just collect? You answered that one. So, do you sell based on requests? What model years are factory fit? Lastly, I'm looking to go to stock appearance, however, I do not need a working tape. Just the unit with the best FM receiver, one that can be modified to accept an aux input and an amp added. Sorry for my sarcasm earlier. I never seem to learn that it's not something that is apparent in text. -

This post reminds me. At 8pm on March 31, 2017, the stock radio in my 88 went missing. It was in okay shape. The tape didn't work quite right and the first two radio station presets were pretty worn . . . Hey! -

Was soooo excited to see this, but, DANG! I have a hard time justifying the cost. Not so much the part, even though it is grossly over-priced, but $9 bucks to ship a lightweight and small piece of plastic? Are they driving over and installing it too? I already have a lathe and for $6 bucks I can buy enough Delrin to make enough of these to last a lifetime. This is a tough one. I sure would like tighter steering, but at what cost? Do Comanche Club members get a discount? -
Was poking around my I6 engine compartment yesterday and noticed this white line not connected. Maybe it's not supposed to be connected, but I don't know. Any thoughts on this line? http://i.imgur.com/kl0cm49.jpg

Have a lead on a 90 aw4. Need help!
NC Tom replied to NC Tom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
We'll I was wrong. He does not have a transmission to match the case. He's asking $150 for the case. Is that typical? And, if can get a transfer case and tyranny for $300, is that a good deal? -

Okay, Cruiser54 school me. The guy has a couple of trannys. He has a 2wd that is in good shape, however, it's my understanding that you cannot convert 2wd to 4wd, so that's not an option. He has a 90 that stopped working. the mechanic said it was a bad pump? IDK what that means as a potential donor. He has a 95 too. That one can work if I swap the transfer case too, correct? Is it that easy-peasy? Yes it is. Forget the one with the bad pump. Install the trans and transfer case. Sell your old transfer case on craigslist and your old tranny to a trans shop as a core for $25 to $50. Alright. He has a transfer case. I'm out of my element here. What should look for in a used case and how much should I pay for a 90s case? -

Surely, this is the one he is looking at- https://boone.craigslist.org/pts/6019005508.html The seller doesn't even know what year it is. But, for $150...........your core on a rebuilt will be that.........or..........$150 for a 23 spline TC...............you are still at $300 for a trans/TC combo. OP, go look at it, count the spline. Nope. Not that one. Although I did contact that guy and it won't work. It's newer than 90. -

Thanks. Right, but I thought they changed that midway thru 90. I'm wondering if I'm right about that and if there is a number or code on the exterior of the Cherokee that confirms it. -
So I have found a trans that I think/hope I can use for my 88. It's in a 90 Cherokee. I know the trans were changed during that model year. How can I tell if the spline count is correct without opening the case?

Anybody try one of these yet? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Cruise-Control-Windshield-Wiper-Arm-Lever-Switch-for-Chevy-Truck-Pontiac-/370838431819?fits=Year%3A1988%7CMake%3AJeep%7CModel%3AComanche%7CSubmodel%3APioneer%7CEngine+-+Liter_Display%3A4.0L&hash=item5657b1684b:g:CVAAAOSwtfhYpsWL&vxp=mtr

I guess it's not going to matter much since the shocks are just one component, out of many, that effect ride. You all have provided some good direction. Thanks

Gonna revive this thread. 1 My rear shocks need replacing. 2 This thread has confused the hell out of me. :help: 3 I'm a mostly on-road driver, so smoother, less jittery is better for me. I do use the truck as a truck. Haul wood, parts, scrap, etc. 4 JK red and black shocks are the same or different? Which is better for on-road? When buying used, what models, numbers, etc. am I looking for? Thanks, "Clueless"

So, I'm seeing XJ seats on CL, but I'm wondering. Is there a year range to these? Should I stay within my same model year, or does it not matter? -
While Jeep Driver did answer your question, there was an unnecessary insult to the I6 that, I guess, just slipped out. :hmm: Also consider longevity and serviceability. I'm not an expert by any measure. However, a simple Google search may help. "Nissan 4.0 engine" returns countless accounts of trouble with this motor. Essentially, it sounds like a POS. "Jeep 4.0 engine" however, returns just as many accolades on how great this motor is. 8)

Thanks WyoCherokee. That's essentially what I was interested in. Do have a pic of your mounts you can post or PM?
-
i Yeah, sorry about that. As I was driving home, I thought, "that was a stupid question." What I meant was has anyone found a simple method to set-up a universal mount. Does that make sense?
-
Sorry if this has been touched on. I've seen plenty of how-to's for XJ seat swaps, but I haven't seen any for putting any seat, that fits, into an MJ. Honda Civic, for example. Someone had posted using flat bar or something. Has there been a discussion about this?
-
Hey, I can't speak to the towing/hauling issues of the 2.5, but I would suggest holding out for an MJ with the I6. They have a solid history and have good pulling power. On a side note, IMO, MJ's are the best riding and driving truck I've owned. That includes a Ford Ranger, Toyota Pickup and a full-sized GMC. Good luck!!!

reverse is made up several gears shared with the forward gears, obviusly your problem is about the hidraulics, get someone capable of fixing that... not your current mechanic, you need to rebuild your tranny if the gears, clutches or bands or whatever is bad, your tranny doesn`t seem to have those problems... Thanks. Currently, the ONLY issue it has is no reverse. Otherwise it's fine. Put it in reverse gear and all you get is engine revving.
-
How did he come to that conclusion. Did he just put it in R and nothing happened? I was told my tranny was shot...needed a torque converter...$210.00 He manually tried to put in reverse and got nothing. :dunno:

"how many of us were even around during the MJ production years?" Hey, hey, wait! It wasn't THAT long ago! Nice collection! -
Okay, so my mechanic says that the reverse gear is gone. Do I have any options other than replace? Is there an affordable way to get reverse back in action?
