I have those now in the machined finish. I've considered a high polish. A lot of work!
-
Sounds like a joke, but the wood frame is legit. I do some finishing and packing work for a local furniture builder. We had to stop using UPS because they broke many, many pieces and trying to get compensation was like trying to stick a wet noodle in a dog's butt! We use FedEx now with much better results. Basically, it's not the delivery drivers, it's the warehouse clowns and their forklifts you have to worry about. (any MJ owners who drive a forklift are excluded  ) Odd shaped packages are begging to be damaged. We box/crate everything! You could look into White Glove Delivery or ship Freight on a small palette.

Oh dang! I read it wrong. I thought the rig had only 2,300 miles on it! :rotf:

My 2-cents. What kind of wheeling? Sandy or rocky/mud? Wider (floaty) tires for sand. Narrow, tall (digger) tires for trails. Counter to popular belief, wide/big tires may look awesome, but are pointless on trails with stumps, rocks, mud, etc. I had 31's on my previous DD truck. I would not do that again. On-road manners suffer and the extra rubber means extra road noise that was drowning out my Judas Priest! :rock on: An extra set of off-road tires, while a PITA, is a good idea.

Found these on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-OEM-NEW-JEEP-WRANGLER-Cherokee-Liberty-CHROME-Alloy-Wheels-82205897-/272532672697?hash=item3f743690b9:g:jekAAOSwbYZXfWrk&vxp=mtr I like 'em! Would like to find a set locally.

I have to ask. How is 2,300 miles even possible?
-
Thanks for the input. @87 Warrior, I'm thinking I might have go that route too.

Planning a future wheel swap and I have a question. I know the younger (and less cool :teehee: ) MJ owners are repulsed by the idea, but are there any direct-fit wheel options in CHROME? Has Jeep release any OEM chrome wheels?

Renault is French... hahaha Not a French flag. A "Freedom" flag!!

Sure, it's possible, albeit a bit far. Haha! The "good" thing about my current trans is that all the forward gears work. So, as long as have pull-through parking options, I'm golden! Thanks, John, for the heads-up though. BTW, any luck finding interior parts from my other post?

Thanks for the replies. I know the correct spline count and I've read the NAXJA post a bazzillion times! LOL! The post states, when updating an 87-90, "1990.5-1996 are bolt-in as long as you swap input gears in your transfer case to a 23 spline, or swap the transfer case as well." It's suggested that I DO NOT need a transfer case, if, I swap input gears. However, "gears" is plural. More than one? This is what I need help with.

My 88 auto has lost reverse, so I'm trying to figure out all my options. Rebuild = Last option Linkage issue = If I'm lucky Replace = Likely As far as replacing with a bolt-in goes. I can get a used AW4 from a early 90's Cherokee. To do this swap I know I need to change the input gears to 23 splines. I'm new to this level of repair, so my question is this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/242-WJ-Jeep-23-Spline-Input-Gear-FREE-KWIK-SHIP-/172556871958?hash=item282d30e916:g:sZEAAOSwPgxVLYPQ&vxp=mtr Is this all I need and how much labor is involved in replacing? Thanks guys!

John, Now that I think about it, I guess I can restore the switches. It's just a cosmetic thing. However, any of the other items would be cool. Have any of those?

You're a BRAVE man! It's looking good though. I'd push for playing around with different trim pieces to clean in up. As you mentioned. Soon, you'll be jamm'n that Justin Bieber!!! :rock on: (if you do like Justin Bieber, then I'm laughing WITH you, not AT you.)

Disagree. Catalytic converters are, by nature, a restrictive system. Remove it and you'll gain torque, hp and be more efficient. However, know your local ordinances. Large or small, the gains ain't worth the potential fines.

Interesting. I just a got an 88 with an original bench. No headrests. I have the Pioneer model. Wonder which models had them?

I have a tale to tell. A friend of mine owns an antique shop. He came across a large lot of WWII-era political campaign buttons, bought them and put them in his shop. Didn't sell any and was dumbfounded about it. For the hell of it he doubled the price and they all sold. What he got from this was that at a low price, people thought they were fakes or repros. At a higher price, they figured they were legit. As you know, pricing for MJ's is all over the place. Clean the hell out of it and ask high. You may get it. People LOVE shiny! However, I'm not advocating deception. Keep it honest and accurate. . :MJ 1: .

Hmmmm . . . "Safety?" Never heard of it. Must of been an option in California.

Here she is, an 1988 Pioneer! Picked her up in Ga. last Friday, drove six hours back to NC without any major issues. She's not perfect, but runs strong. Tech: 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0 I6, Auto trans, 4wd The good: Very little rust, runs strong, very clean interior, nearly dent-free ext., 4wd works as it should, glass is all good The bad: No reverse gear (Good thing I live in the mountains cause I can roll back a lot!) Forward gears shift and work fine. 3rd works. 1-2 is flaky. Hoping this and reverse are just linkage issues. PO rattlecanned her flat black. Not that bad, but would have preferred original. Temp gauge (idiot light) has seizure-inducing blinking thing going on. Cruise doesn't work. No muffler, but does have cat. Weird. I get no cat. But no muffler? Serious play in steering. Like 3"! This is the "bad" I know of. I'll be taking her to my mechanic and then I'll get the truth. :crossfingers: Refurb begins soon!

Thanks for the replies. Especially the provided link. Very helpful!

Have an 88, with an I6 auto. All forward gears work well. Reverse has a strange habit of sometimes working and sometimes not engaging. One of the fluid lines is patched. Could that lead to a system pressure issue? Any other suggestions or idears?

YIKES!!!
