If shops are not allowed to straighten frames, why do they have frame jigs and why do factory service manuals have pages full of chassis dimensions? The dealership told me the mounts would have to be cut off and rewelded, they couldn't do that because they were a dealership, and the procedure for that was to do a frame swap. I just straightened them, they aligned just fine. They also called it "severe frame damage". Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

I had someone hit and run the drivers side wheel on my wife's van, insurance company was going to write it off because the upper control arm mounts were a little bent. I straightened them up with a big Cresent wrench, changed out a tie rod, and the thing was good as new. The shop said they were not allowed to do that, they had to do an entire frame swap, which would cost $20,000+. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Sorry, I should have been clearer. My basic thought was, I could get another inch of ride height if I put in 4wd springs. But on deeper reflection, it hardly seems worth it. I could just put longer shackles in the back and achieve basically the same thing. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

How much arch difference between 2x4 and 4x4? I just did a SOA on my 2wd and got almost 6" of lift. Would I get more from 4wd springs? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk 4WD sits 1-inch higher than 2WD. The arch of the springs doesn't affect how much lift you get from a SOA conversion. The lift comes from moving the spring to above the axle -- if you start from the 2WD height, you'll end up with the 2WD height plus 'X' inches. If you start from the 4WD height, yiou'll end up with the 4WD height plus the same 'X' inches. Yup I realize that, just didn't know they were a different height to begin with. Good to know. I'll do some research. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Codename Bumblebee: Now With Oil Pressure!
desbennett004 replied to Minuit's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
A friend of mine had something similar happen, except it didn't pop out of gear, his piston rings were soo worn that his motor didn't have enough compression to hold itself. It slowly chug chug chugged down a hill and through his neighbors fence. He figured it probably took half the night to get there. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk- 60 replies

Brake Master Cylinder ?
desbennett004 replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't weld. Use vise-grips. And go easy -- if you break off the outer part, then you'll have to buy a new caliper (or wheel cylinder, depending on which end you're working on). In fact, wheel cylinders aren't expensive. Considering the age of your truck, it might not be a bad idea to just buy new wheel cylinders and start fresh. And don't use WD-40 for penetrating oil. That's not what it's for, and it doesn't work. Use PB Blaster, or (even better) Kroil -- if you can find it. I have had good luck using a 50/50 mix of transmission fluid and paint thinners in a spray bottle to loosen seized bolts. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
Brake Master Cylinder ?
desbennett004 replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When you bleed brakes you usually start from the line furthest from the master cylinder, which would be the rear passenger, then the rear driver, then the front passenger, lastly the front driver. At least, that's how I've always done it. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
Just paint it red, it will go faster. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Doesn't the Guage get its signal from the sensor in the block on my renix engine? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
Wouldn't mind getting one for my MJ, might help keep the snow off the windshield while it's parked. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Do you think the coolant temp sensor has much to do with your engine running rich? I noticed my Guage isn't working, ive read from some that it makes a difference while others say it doesn't. Thoughts? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
Different size spare tire
desbennett004 replied to dbkirkp's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I found a factory XJ bumper mounted swing out tire carrier a while ago, I'm thinking of trying to make that work with the MJ bumper and the tail gate. May be easier just to fab one from scratch though... Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -

Twin OEM Electric Fan Install Question
desbennett004 replied to desbennett004's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's really good information, I think I will go a similar route, have one wired through ignition, and the other on a temp switch, with Manual switches in the cab to turn them off or on as required. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
My MJ, Fiona .. Slow Build

You can get an adapter for the AX15. Supposedly it can handle a mild V8 build. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
Twin OEM Electric Fan Install Question
desbennett004 replied to desbennett004's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the info, got the new fans today, as well as a new water pump, oil pump, oil pan gasket and a couple of relays. Got a buddy at work who knows a fair bit about wiring stuff up, he's going to give me a hand. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
On a side note, is that the factory rear sway bar in that picture? My MJ didn't come with one, I guess it was removed by the PO? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

You are right, IMHO a highly modified setup is worth less to me than a stock setup. At least if I do it, I know how it was done. But then if I go to sell my modified setup, I will have to expect the same reaction. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Twin OEM Electric Fan Install Question
desbennett004 replied to desbennett004's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the link, I did a search, didn't come up with that thread. Do you remember how much your fan controller cost? Maybe that is the simplest way to do the wiring. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
No, but if someone tells you they have an Aussie Locker, do THEY know if they have an Aussie or a Lokka? If I was to sell you my Jeep with an "Aussie Locker" in it, would you be confident it was genuine? I have no bias either way between Spartan and Aussie, they cost the same, and do the same from the reviews I have read. So choosing one or the other would make no difference to me, other than to distance myself from the "apparent" confusion. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
