  1. Spartans cost similar to Aussie, rated just as good or better, and it avoids any confusion as to who built what where when and how. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  2. An American made Aussie. As an Australian myself,(living in Canada), that strikes as funny. I would probably just go with a spartan. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  3. Yeah I've seen both of those videos, he is really relying on the Volvo setup to manage his fans, which is great for him, but I don't have that. Does give me a couple ideas though. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  4. It has a radiator cap also, and a radiator from an auto jeep, so I guess it was upgraded at some point. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  5. No I don't, not sure if it did have one and it wasn't re-installed. I don't have A/C, so it might not have one from factory. I seem to have a later model thermostat with a coolant temperature sensor in it, but no electric fan currently. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  6. Works great in Arizona, pretty much guaranteed death this far north. I'd run a spool over a lunchbox/autolocker in the rear, at least I know the spool is always trying to kill me and is doing so in a predictable manner. I actually used to run a front spool on the road on my old MJ, again, it was nowhere near as haywire as a front lunchbox locker because the spool is always doing the same thing. I originally just wanted a Truetrac, but I have no contacts that get good pricing on Eaton stuff. So I'm at about $900 frozen pesos for a Truetrac, and $1200 for an Elocker, I'd rather spend the extra for a real locker given that. I'm getting my guy to quote me on a Zip locker, and I'm going to go measure for a Viair setup in a bit... Might start a seperate thread to see what people have for non-A/C pump OBA setups. I think he will probably come in at about $700 US for the Zip, which still leaves some room to buy an OBA setup and be at the same price as the elocker. Frozen air lines do concern me. At work we have a couple poorly fitted fuel trucks with air over hydraulic brakes, and they freeze up all the time. Great fun. I had a LockRite in my SBC powered Land Cruiser FJ40 and had no trouble in the snow. Rear only.I'm gonna get an Aussie for my camo MJ soon. I'm suspecting the Aussie will perform as well or better than the LockRite. I'm at over 5000 foot elevation..... I don't have auto locker experience in any of my vehicles yet, but my sister in law has a lock rite in her Chevy Tracker, it drives great on road in the snow and ice, you hardly know it's there. 8. My 89 4.0 2WD 5 Speed MJ just blew a water pump gasket. The PO "rebuilt" the motor 800km ago. I am less than impressed, everything leaks because he re-used the old gaskets. The Mechanical fan is bent, and I am changing the water pump, as I have to remove it to change the gasket anyway. I have ordered 2 OEM Electric fans, my question is, what is the easiest way to wire them up? Splice them together and let the ECM control them? Or wire them through a relay to a switch and manually control them? I have seen guys set up fancy controllers. I don't care if I have to manage them manually, I am just looking for a simple, idiot proof wiring job, as wiring is not my strong suit. I live in Canada, so the temperature is generally mild, just wondering if anyone has experience with this install. TIA Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  9. Not sure in your area. Maybe NAPA? I just bought one, I work on a lot of Chevy vans so I use it fairly regularly. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  10. I was just looking last night at parts and for the gasket kit (felpro) bolts (felpro) and water pump it would be about 120$ shipped. So add the oil and ect and it would come out to about 200$ that leaves 200$ for head work. Any chance that he possibly blew the radiator? I'll be checking it of course. My mother is worried I will keep the Jeep... I would for sure if it was 4×4. Always wanted a Cherokee but need something that moves all four wheels haha. You can probably rent a coolant system pressure tester to pressure test the rad. I have one at my shop, really comes in handy. A 4X4 conversion is easier than you think. I am doing that to my MJ right now. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  11. I've seen guys make a collar just before the cone filter with a couple of vacuum connectors on it to plug in the existing vaccum lines. The stuff on the front of the air box can be deleted, it's supposed to warm the air though a hose to the exhaust manifold. My hose is all rotted, so it doesn't work anyway. Having said all that, the general consensus is that the stock box flows really well, and you probably won't gain anything performance-wise by the cone filter. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  12. I've snapped off more bolts with a breaker bar than I have with an impact. Like you said, the impact generates a different type of force, it's not continuous, it's percussive. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  13. Has anyone had any experience with a Lunchbox Locker failing? I haven't heard of any failures personally, but then, I haven't had much to do with them. The majority of us on tight budgets don't run the parts we want to run, we run the parts we can afford. Otherwise, why run an auto locker in the first place? I personally would much rather a selectable locker. My point is, run what you can afford, and treat it accordingly. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  14. I just blew a water pump gasket in my MJ yesterday, it's about $50 CAD for a waterpump, gasket included. That, plus some antifreeze, oil, filter, head gasket kit, and possibly some head work and you should be all in. If you were going to keep it, maybe there would be other stuff to do while it was all apart, but if you are going to flip it, that's about all you need. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  15. I will be trying that next time I go to Pick and Pull. Always snapping bolts there. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  16. On a similar note, I had the valve cover off my 89 MJ, while it was running I found that it was conciderably dryer at the back of the motor than at the front. It also has a tick coming from #5 or #6. Should I be concerned, or is this pretty usual? The motor was just rebuilt by the PO. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  17. Nope. Here's a pic of my rear springs. 3 springs and a helper. Not sure what the Metric Ton package has. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  18. Not entirely sure, just finished a SOA 8.25 conversion. Here's a pic of the old axle.I assume it's a Dana 35 because it's a 5 speed manual. Could be wrong though. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  19. Everything looks right, it is a 2WD Pioneer with a 4.0L, just in the middle of a 4X4 conversion. Thanks for the info! Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  20. Thanks for the info. I've been trying to set up a signature, but can't seem to figure it out on Tapatalk. Will have to sign into the website to do it I guess. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  21. I bought my MJ a couple months ago, just wondering what is the best way to find out the year. PO told me it's an 89, but the sticker on the door is too faded to read. Here are pictures of the plate. I'm not sure how to decipher it. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  22. Wow thats in good condition! Here in Alberta that is pretty rare. I am no Veteran by any means, but I will be using Tremclad/ Rustoleum industrial paint and rolling it on. We use that stuff at work, and I have seen stuff that was painted 20 years ago and left outdoors that still looks good with no rust. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  23. Nice looking truck! I paid $1600 for my 2WD 5 speed with the 4.0 Litre. I got a smoking deal on it, it's worth almost double that because they are rare here in Alberta. It depends where you are as to what it's worth. Personally, I would convert it to a 3.4 Litre motor and 4x4 with a 5 speed. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  24. ^^^^ Same, I might get some JK take offs for my white MJ. Looks good! Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
  25. I have seen comparison pictures of S10 main leafs, they are very similar to MJ mains. An S10 leaf will give lift to an XJ, but not an MJ. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
