Benefits of the 97+ swap?
desbennett004 replied to Jaxso32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Are you talking about just the interior, or the swap as a whole? Because you don't get OBDII just from doing an interior swap. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -

lol, I had my truck on open headers for a day and it was horrible. It had a flowmaster super 44. No cat but 2.25 tubing. I love how it sounds. Barely hear it in the cab but sounds really throaty outsideAwesome. I was thinking Flowmaster 44 or flowmaster 40, I think I will go with the 44. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
I didn't have damaged hinges, just some sag in the door. Might work, might not, depending how damaged your hinges are. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Most tire shops won't stud used tires, just because you get little rocks stuck in the stud holes, and apparently it wrecks their stud gun. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

A friend fixed my door for me, you lever it up with a wooden 2x4 at the bottom of the door, and you put a small 2x4 on the inside of the bottom of the door, so you don't end up bending it. He used to work in a body shop, he said that's how they would fix door sag 90% of the time. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

What's the muffler/exhaust system you have? I have straight pipes from the PO, I get up at 4:00 am to go to work, and am worried my neighbors are going to set my truck on fire for waking them up every morning. You truck sounds good without being obnoxious. What did you use? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
^^^ What he said. Definitely look for the Snow Peak Rating on tires. I run General Grabber AT2 on my XJ all year round. Not as good as a true winter tire, but I don't have to swap them. They can be studded to. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

The impeller should have been stamped with an "R", I believe you can buy the same pump with 2 different impellers, depending on belt routing and rotation. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
I think I would just cut the roof off of a 2 door XJ and weld in a chevy S10 rear window. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Doors Won't Unlock
desbennett004 replied to Tactical Bacon's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You can buy lock de-icer key rings with a glycol solution in them to spray in the lock. I personally have a butane torch key ring for just such an occasion. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -

Do you have AMA, or some kind of roadside assistance? If you do they will send someone around to Jimmy it for you. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
The 2 white squares are port covers. You take those off to plug in a renix scan tool. Easy way tell if the MAP sensor is working is unplug the black hose that runs to it while the engine is running. If it's starts running rough, it's working. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Top left is your MAP sensor. Top Right is your scanner port I think. You need both. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk

Haha Vancouver cold! I'm in Calgary. I have my 99 in 4HI almost all winter, I just pop it out when I want to do sharp turns. No I'll effects. Not sure what the 4x4 light is switched on, but doesn't necessarily mean it's engaged. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -
97+ Conversion front/rear driveshaft
desbennett004 replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You won't need to get it lengthened. I have 6" of lift in the back with adjustable antiwrap spring perches and the stock XJ shaft MIGHT fit without being shortened. You also have some adjustment on the slip yoke, but not a huge amount. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -

desbennett004 replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If you do need the drive shaft shortened, the cheapest way to do it would be to take a stock drive shaft to a shop along with measurements and get them to shorten and balance it. Some heavy truck shops can do the job, you might be able to get it done for cash. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -

1. Battery Cable upgrade. Cost should be around $100 if you buy a good kit. These old trucks have electrical problems, so start with new upgraded cables. Then go do Cruiser's upgrades/checks. 2. Starter: If the one you have is working - keep it. If it needs replaced - get a good, locally rebuilt one. I just did this today $65 3. Shocks: I would put this off till just a bit later. More important things to do first.6 4. Complete tune up: This is quick and easy. New plugs, new wires, etc. The second thing to do - after you check all you brakes. 5. Brakes: The very first thing you should take care of. Check them for wear and good operating condition. Fix as required. 6. Lights. LED lights are nice. TruckLite headlamps are GREAT! Spend the money on them. TRUST Me on this. Just Do It. Other lights can be converted as you go along. Most are inexpensive. 7. Tires. You did not mention this, but you have to have good tires. Don't need fancy wheels. But your need good Brakes and Tires. Thank you very much. 1. Battery cables ordered. 2. I've been told the starter can't be rebuilt; parts not available. I'll check into that. 3. Good advice, will wait. Hoping to install a 2" or 2.5" suspension lift in the near future. Am being told I simply need to adjust torsion bars in front and move rear leaf springs over axle in rear to acheive this. Sounds simple? 4. Tune up in near future. Degreased engine today. Afterward, truck wouldn't start. Waiting on new battery cables, then will perform several of Cruiser's tips. Hopefully will starts afterwards. 5. Once I get it cleaned and running, will take to local tire shop for complete brake inspection. 6. Thanks for the advice. Will look at Trucklite headlamps as soon as I finish this post. One of Cruiser's tips was to upgrade headlight connectors, so this makes sense to dovetail. 7. Tires are great. 3. Torsion bars in front? Nope. Some ZJ springs and/or coil spacers will do it. A Spring Over Conversion in the back will get you around 5-6" of lift, so if you only want 2.5ish, maybe an add a leaf? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk -

97+ Conversion front/rear driveshaft
desbennett004 replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My MJ drive shaft is way longer than an XJ shaft. But that's because it's behind a 2WD ax15. Once I put in the 4x4 ax15 WITH the transfer case on the back, it will be closer to fitting the XJ shaft. You will just have to try it and see, I have heard some people report they could use the stock length xj shaft because of the amount of lift, combined with the pinion angle they had. desbennett004 replied to Dzimm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have put adjustable spring perches on my Chrysler 8.25, it has extra holes in it to lengthen or shorten the wheel base by an inch. Can't tell you how well it works yet, I still have the 2wd ax15 in there, but I figure that plus the SOA, I should be ok for length. I also set me pinion angle at 6°, so I should be good for angle, but you could always shim your axle to change your pinion angle if you need to. Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
