  1. Take it off and see if it has the same base as the old one.
  2. It's not. It is part of the front vacuum harness.
  3. They're all junk. Cut the tubing on each side of the valve. Remove the valve and plug it's vacuum line. Put a short piece of heater hose in the valve's old spot. Sorry, but I have a particular vendetta against these valves for 2 reasons. One, when they fail on the road, almost all coolant is lost instantly. Possible catastrophic engine can result. Two, when I reached in the engine bay to remove the oil filter on our 88, I bumped that valve with my elbow. It busted and I got blasted in the face with 200* coolant!!
  4. CRUISER'S MOSTLY RENIX TIPS CRUISER’S VALVE COVER MOD NOVEMBER 17, 2015 SALAD 51 COMMENTS Most early and even later Renix 4.0s could be bothered by excessive oil in the air cleaner box. A fix from my old days as Service Manager at a Jeep dealership follows. Information was provided to me from a buddy at JeepTech during those days. I don’t believe it ever came out in a Technical Service Bulletin. Remove the valve cover and turn it over. Next, remove the fluted tubes that are now facing you by removing three screws on each. Chop 1 inch off each of them. Then, drill a half inch hole as shown in the photo. The flat side of the flute that’s closest to the edge of the valve cover. Clean and de-burr/sand all rough edges nicely, clean with solvent, and reinstall. Don’t be concerned about the chintzy gaskets that will probably crumble into oblivion when you remove the fluted tubes. They can go back together without gaskets. Here’s a handy video from my friend Brendan showing more detail.
  5. That rear hose and grommet are available. See below. Below that will show you how to fix the root cause of the problem. CRUISER'S MOSTLY RENIX TIPS RENIX VACUUM HARNESSES NOVEMBER 17, 2015 SALAD 27 COMMENTS The vacuum harness that attaches to the front of the valve cover and includes the grommet/fitting, and is called the front harness, is Napa part number BK 715-1367 or is a Dorman 46003. The vacuum harness that is closest to the air cleaner, EGR etc, and is called the rear harness, is Napa part number BK 715-1366 or is a Dorman 46004. The tube from the rear of the valve cover to the intake manifold is part number BK 715-1365 or Dorman 46005 and comes with the valve cover grommet. The Throttle Body to MAP hose is no longer available. Click HERE to access a fix for that.
  6. Perhaps there's an opening elsewhere in the plastic housing?
  7. https://www.crownautomotive.net/Speedometer-Cable/4897801AA.html
  8. I think I got one from an early Wrangler and used it on my Comanche.
  9. The cable operated heater door has to have something wrong with it. Rodents gotten in there? Made a nest?
  10. The heater door is controlled by a CABLE under the passenger side dash. Not by vacuum. That's where to look.
  11. I don't even buy unripe fruit at the grocery store anymore.....
  12. Go grab a few from the rear doors of an 86 to 90 XJ. Hardly used and all ya gotta do is swap the sliding part.
  13. If that rubber hose has a hole/kink/split, loose clamp, it won't pump fuel.
  14. Keep the 88 and sell the 86 to someone who will fix it up.
  15. You are correct. I just went out to the shop and looked in my 1991 FSM.
  16. do both!! You're on the right track.
  17. Check voltage at the pump harness.
  18. Fuel pressure should be 339 kPa ± 34 kPa (49.2 psi ± 5 psi) at idle.
  19. Fuel pressure is low.
  20. Yep. Pretty much anything off idle and up you will see a knock value.
  21. Dex/Merc ATF in both the transfer case and the AW4 trans.
  22. Are you getting spark?
  23. Have you visited my website and completed Tips 1 through 5 yet? If not, begin there before doing anything else.
  24. I'd be looking at fuel issues. How old are the plugs, wires, cap and rotor?
