  1. Any one here know how to get a title for a vehicle that doesn't have one? A couple years back it was possible to get one by going thru a VIN search and bond. Total cost $75. The politicians passed some laws and that is no longer possible. There are a couple places back East that does it but they want $700-$900. Just not worth it. Any help, ideas appreciated.
  2. Times change. people change.
  3. Are we related? The very first car I ever owned was a 1938 Buick 4 dr convertable, My gawd. those side mounted tires on the front fenders, CLASS !. The hood was longer than some of the cars on the road today. I was 15 years old. The guy wanted $45 for it. After trying for an hour to get it started with no success I offered him $40. He took it. I was Mr Cool with the chicks in High school. Except when it rained. No top.
  4. When I saw that old engine I immediately thought ''28-32 Buick'. Thank you for showing the logo on the head confirming at least the make although not the year. Great pics. Last time i was up there '52, '53 a couple of the mines were still operating although the majority had already shut down
  5. I've probably gone thru 12-15 of those late '40 early '50 P/U and SW. Can think of a couple I would really like to have back now.
  6. Why do anything with it? Assuming it's working OK now. Switching to propane only involves the fuel system. Not the ignition. BC (Before computers) when we switched over to propane we would advance the timing a couple degrees to take advantage of the higher octane rating of propane but that was all.
  7. Replace it with a later year? '87-'89 are getting scarce. My mind is just to logical to accept 'because'. If something is doing something, there's reason for it.
  8. Posted Today, 11:01 AM Just checked Auto Zone part numbers for a '88 4.0, '91 4.0 and a 96 4.0. They list the exact same part number for just clutch disk and the clutch set. Disk and pressure plate. Same specs, clutch OD=10.4. ID=1 1/8. spline count=10. For all 3 years. So now can somebody explain why retaining the cone is so important?

Resurfacing it on a lathe will remove that cone shape, instead making it perfectly flat.//quote Not meaning to hijack thread but I am curious. Why can't you machine the surface flat and use it? As far as i know, except for some early Fords, all fly wheels are flat and seem to work OK. Do they use a special disc and pressure plate? Can't a disc from another year be used? How deep is the cone? .001 inch? 3/8"? 1/2" ? Curious minds want to know. :dunno: Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.. Quote MultiQuote Edit Report

  15. Hey Don. I believe that the young lady needs a new set of shocks. Have her come around and I'll help install them.
  16. Should be on this jewel? Don't want it wandering all over the road. :rotfl2:
  17. BANJOS? Get a dual track tape recorder. Run the banjo thru first' Get a guitar. Start the recorder and tape the second track. Voila. Your now playin 'Dualin' Banjos' by yourself. Is this a young Jim? Rob Sorry for taking so long to answer. Apparently missed it. And yes it is. A much younger Jim. Thule, Greenland. 1972. A week after this pic was taken I was on my way to Tel Aviv for an assignment in the Sinai Desert. Went from -64 * to + 117* in less than 24 hours.
  18. 12 2.5'S. 2 Aluminum valve covers. One is on 1996 XJ. Engine compartment looks unmolested so pretty sure it's all original VC # 2, origin unknown. Tag on VC reads 53??135?. Last digit may be a 4. Block casting 53008403 RV
  19. Looks more like a Studebaker to me. Or a Olds.
  20. I have a 2.5 with an aluminum VC. I don't know what it's off from or the year as I got in the back of a Chevy S10 I picked up.. If any bodies interested maybe I can find some block casting numbers or something to identify it.
  21. Why in the world would ANYONE want a MJ? What in the world would ANYONE want a MJ for? Not sure which one was the better phrasing so I used them both.
  22. Weeeell now that you mentioned it. And does the 'advertising aid' go with it?

    Garbage?

    Holy #*#@^&*%#!!!!
  24. Yea, this has me scratching my head too. A '59 Olds with a diesel 350 swapped in? Either way, nice turn-around there. Don't spend it all in one place. The car was a 1959 98. The title VIN was checked twice. By me when i first got it and by the scrap yard so it was a '59. The guys son was in the Air Force and bought it from another Airman at Lowery AFB in the early '70's. He drove it home in '76 when he got discharged. It was diesel then and as far as the guy knows it's always been diesel. I would just take a wild *ssed guess and say somebody did an engine swap. The auto hobby shop at Lowery would be ideal for something like that.
