Track Bar Removal Question '86 Comanche
jimoshel replied to Echostrike's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just checked. The '86 does not have any way to access the rear nut. The '87 up has the nut-tab thing. Just try to remove the bolt. If it turns without coming out you're screwed. You will have to cut a hole in the brace so you can reach the nut with a wrench. 1986 track bar mount D*mn PB! -
Track Bar Removal Question '86 Comanche
jimoshel replied to Echostrike's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There is a tab hanging down from the mount. The nut is welded to it. You don't need a wrench. -

I need the lower bell housing cover, and hardware for a '86 2.8, AX5. If you have one don't be bashful. Speak up. let me know if you want cash or trade.

Hey Ben. Thank you for the thought but it's kinda ridiculous to haul a piece of scrap metal half way across the country when I can get all I want within 50 miles of me. Although not MJ.
-
It was the connector at the battery end. Cut it off, crimped a new one on, works fine. I violated one of my own basic rules of trouble shooting. When frustrated back off, go do something else, think about it.

:agree: What with the bench rates the repair shops charge it just doesn't pay to take it to one. If you know someone with a identical Jeep see if you can swap radios with them for a couple days. Suggestion. Pull the radio, and clock, out far enough to reach the wiring harness. Find the B+ lead. Hook a volt meter to it and see what the voltage is when they're acting up.

I got to thinking while in the shower. I never checked for voltage at the starter. The original wire from the pos battery post to the solenoid was all corroded and the PO had replaced it with a new one. I visually checked it but did not check for continuity or if There was 12volts at the starter. First thing in the morning, after my coffee of course. I've got enough new stuff from the store that was defective that I know just because it's new is no guarantee it's good. Good ol made in China, etc.

1986 XJ, 2.8, AX5. I have taken 2 starters, bench checked both of them, good. I put them on the engine, no work. The solenoid kicks in but the starter motor doesn't spin. Just a clunk from the solenoid. Cherry body, interior so I don't want to part it. When push started it fires the instant I drop the clutch. Runs great. No smoke, noises, leaks. Getting the 2 bolts started in the starter is a royal b*tch. Gone from no shims to 3/8 of an inch, no difference. Any ideas? Suggestions? HELP! :fs1: I'm getting to old for this shet.

Not sure what I said but that's what I meant.

Maybe that's the secret to making a BA-10 last. Remove all the clutch crap and replace it with a torque converter.
-
Never thought about that. maybe we could guarantee for 40 days first.
