Just checked. I can see absolutely no difference between '97 ZJ and '98 XJ, nor can I see any difference between the front and rear doors, so I've got 4 strikers available.

How to Evaulate a JY Transfer Case

While in 4Full, Hold one shaft so it doesn't move. Now rotate the other one. It shouldn't move. You should feel it trying to turn the one your holding. Check for play by rocking it back and forth. there will be a little but not sloppy. Turn loose the first shaft. Now holding one shaft just tight enough to feel it go thru all the gears, 2H,4H,4pt,4Full, and turn the other shaft. Your'e feeling for smoothness of gear movement. and listening for any noise. -
$30 shipped. Would like instructions, drawing, as to where, how the cut should be made.

Not sure if I'm hi-jacking a thread here or if this fits the subject. I have 4 cases, 3XJ and 1 MJ where the hose connecting the fuel pump to the line inside the tank was rotted ate up gooey sticky slime. I thought at first maybe the PO had run some methenol or corn whishey in the tank. But all the other rubber hoses were fine. I'm thinking now maybe the original supplier to Jeep just used a faulty hose.

20 year old radios get dirty and corroded. The fact you hear static says the speakers and associated wiring are OK, unless it's the speakers themselves gone bad. You have 2 connectors in the antenna lead. One entering the radio and one by the kick panel. Clean them. Remove the radio and remove its cover. Spray the volume control with electrical contact cleaner. Get a new radio. 190 thermostat.

If you added "I don't get no respect" to that monologue you'd sound just like Rodney Dangerfield. :rotf: Rodney Dangerfield? WOW! That's right up there with the big dogs.

If it was within 150 miles of me I'd jump on it.

Not sure what the order is. Do McDonald's hire rejects go to auto parts stores for employment, or do auto part clerks go to Micky D'S? This thread could get bigger than the 'What did you do to your MJ' one. I have met some knowledgeable parts clerks. Unfortunately they're few and far between. Needed an exhaust valve for Chevy I was doing a valve job on. Argued with the girl for 15 minutes who insisted that what I wanted was a EGR valve. Asked to speak with the manager. He was her father. Went to Checkers for a XJ fuel pump. 20 minutes later walked out in disgust. The idiot was still trying to figure out how to work the puter. Went across the street to a Auto Zone. 5 minutes after walking in the door I walked out with my fuel pump. Went to NAPA for a set of spark plugs for a 327 chevy. He didn't have 8. only could sell me 4. Took me 10 minutes to convince him that he could sell me 2 sets of 4 plugs would make a set of 8. I'm not even started good. Went to a Big A store. A well endowed cutie waited on me. Her blouse was open and could see her bra. When she leaned over to show me the parts pic I could see what was in the bra. Almost forgot what I went after. Jim

D44 Pinion Seal Orientation
jimoshel replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A good rule of thumb on seals is the lip always faces the fluid source. This gives a wiping action on the shaft. Couldn't really tell by the pics but A to the outside looks like it would be correct. -

advantage to degrease an enging?
jimoshel replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Doesn't smell when it gets hot. Hands don't get dirty when working on it. Shows pride of ownership. -
That's what snakes do. BITE!

Yes. About 4 inches up from the floor board. -
Flew from Albuquerque NM to LA in a DC10. Was a great flight, until I stepped outside to light up.

To bad the idiot wasn't sitting in it. Personally believes intelligence tests should be given higher priority than drug tests.

Power is relative. A mild hill in Colorado would be a steep hill in Kansas. My daily driver is a '87 2.5 with 5 speed. I've never had to drop lower than fourth on hills or bucking a head wind. Use plenty of grease on the tap. Help catch the shavings. I have a magnet on a long rod I drop thru the plug hole and sweep the cylinder with. Doesn't work on aluminum heads.

can I use a renix tank with my 91 6cyl

The switch is at the bottom of the steering column.. There are various ways to test the circuit. Not knowing what you have in the way of test equipment I an going to assume you have very little. Remove the gas line from the rail. get a coffee can, or suitable container, to catch the gas in. Needless to say NO SMOKING. Now run a wire from the battery pos terminal to the ballast resistor. is gas coming out? If yes then the pump is good. If not then run the wire to the other post on the resistor. If there is now gas flow then the pump is good and the resistor is bad. The resistor is out of the circuit when the ign key is in START position. Remove the fuel pump relay. Insert the hot wire in the load side of the relay socket. There should be fuel flow. Replace the relay. Ign sw on. there should be fuel flow. If not then switch the fuel pump relay with one from either side of it. Now if you have flow then the relay is bad. If there is still no flow then the switch is bad, or just mis adjusted. And don't over look the fuse s. Th e relay may be clicking but the contacts are bad. If the relay is clicking then the switch is good. Sounds to me like either the resistor or the pump. -

Might not be the fuel pump. Could be the switch. Could be the relay. Would suggest you test them first before spending money. -
2000 XJ power train in my MJ
jimoshel replied to BHelton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That will work. -
Get a gauge and check your fuel pressure. If you don't have one dribble some gas into the TBI. I use a sprayer for that. T his will help determine if it is a fuel or ignition problem. Gas shouldn't have went bad in a couple months time to be causing the problem. Possible but not likely.

2000 XJ power train in my MJ
jimoshel replied to BHelton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
All MJ fuel pumps are capable of putting out over 40psi. The regulator holds it at 31psi. All 4.0 engines calls for 31psi at the injectors. -
