  1. The only time I've ever seen the bearing cap move after tightening the bolts was once when the strap broke. Since you've had it off and it ain't broke the only logical thing I can think of is the bolts stretched. Very unlikely. Only thing I can suggest, get some metal, beer-pop can. cut off a couple strips to use as a shim. Wrap them around the yoke and see if you can get it tight enough to get home. If you got 4wd try removing the front drive shaft and swapping UJoints. Good luck. Jim
  2. It can be bent and welded just like regular steel. Any aircraft supply house has it. I got several addresses but don't know what part of the country you're in. Just type '4130 aircraft tubing' in your browser search window. You'll get a couple pages of results. Just pick out one closest to you.
  3. If your going to fab one, use 4130 Chromaly aircraft tubing. best strength-weight ratio available without going to the exotic stuff.
  4. My dogs watch me. If I eat it, they will eat it. And as for her past misdeeds. When she woke me up this morn, licking my face and wagging her tail, all was forgiven. How do you explain this to a non-animal lover?
  5. Anybody ever notice that if you put two, or more, ROFL smileys in the same post roll in unison? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
  6. If my cooking was so bad that not even a dog will eat it,,,,, :rotf:
  7. even if she is sweet, cute and my closest friend. Was getting strange feelings and noises from my mid section, realized I hadn't had a thing to eat all day. Coffee and a cinnamon roll for breakfast. Fixed me some supper, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy and cole slaw. Sat down and realized no drink, so placed the plate on the end table and got a glass of milk, came back and the plate was empty, cole slaw all over the table and my books, and a dog with a smile on her face looking at me. I am sitting here eating out of a can of Franco-American spaghetti with meat balls and sauce and the dog is sound asleep with a full belly. She's gonna die.
  8. Found a chrome roll bar in nice shape for a short bed. Fella wants $200 for it and I think thats to much. Just what are these things worth? I know I can get a good one for a S10 for $50.
  9. Really weird. I was flat on my back on Don's driveway about a week ago. Was sound asleep having a erotic dream when something bumped me, waking me up. Looked around and all I saw was a nice looking grey MJ driving away, with a bent bumper. :rotf:
  10. The biggest trouble I've had with the 'quick connects' is when they get full of crud. You can't squeeze them enough to dis engage them. I spray a little solvent into the connector, then blow it with the air hose. Second biggest problem is when they come apart the o ring falls out and gets lost.
  11. So whats with the chrome bumpers? Just walked thru the yard. 15 MJ'S, Two, count 'em, two chrome bumpers. Both bent, but not bad, repairable. Plus the one I was just looking at in town. Also bent but just slightly. Do chrome bumpers bend easier than painted? Or is it just more noticeable? Just wondering.
  12. Actually the age of a vehicle has very little to do with it's reliability. It's how it's taken care off mostly. There is two ways to go about it. 1. Start at the front bumper. Inspect, replace, rebuild every moving part on it. End up at rear bumper. 2. Just wait for something to break, then repair replace it. There are only so many parts on a truck. Eventually you will have replaced everything with new parts. Now, when you go someplace it will be a new part that breaks. Not an old one. :wrench:
  13. Was looking at a '90 MJ a couple hours ago. Has a nice original chrome bumper. Rubber trim missing on driver side but no scratches or rust. He's asking $1000. If I can get him down to $800 I'm going to get it.
  14. It goes with the territory. Driving a 20-25 year old vehicle.
  15. Save a mirror! Chop a tree!
  16. Some place. I been cleaning out the garage, storage and throwing away, sorting thru over 50 years of parts, pieces and stuff. When I saw them I remembered the thread on speedo error. Anybody need a tune up kit, points, rotor, capacitor for a 1948 Nash? Rebuilt starter for a '42 Willys? Sorry I got started. Jim
  17. Never, ever get too tired to have fun Saturday night. That's the only reason they have Sats.
  18. ^ You gottem. Back in the old days, pre electronic, that would fit between the transmission and speedo cable.Didn't have to disassemble the the tranny. Remove the cable, remove the drive gear. You could buy just the converter already set up to your specs, or you could get the complete kit, which consisted of the housing body, the drive gear, which mated with the gear on the tranny output shaft, two gears which fit inside the housing and a chart where you dialed in the rear end ratio and tire size. Then read off which gears to put where, There were twenty gears total, all color coded.
  19. Related to a previous post on larger tire, speedometer off. Any body know, or remember what these are?

    Worth it?

    You don't. I will.
  21. Got a J20 Got a MJ Got a bicycle with a basket. Don't need another truck.
  22. Check the ignition switch and starter relay. Apparently it will start when pushed, ign sw is on, but will not start when ion sw is in 'start'. Ign sw and starter relay is only things common to both circuits.
