Good point. At the time I just wanted to see what was the best i could do. Period. Thought about the highway at 75 but got sidetracked. Going to do it later this afternoon. We'll see.

Put everything back in. Evacuate and recharge should do it. Cover the openings so crud doesn't enter the system.

what I could do. These tricks won't work for normal driving, but like I said. Just wanted to see what I could do.1987 MJ, 2.5, AX4, 2wd. First I set it up the way I normally drive. Jack, spare tire, tool box, tires inflated at 32psi. 85octane reg gas. Made run on Interstate at 75mph. Mileage was 20.5 mpg. Next emptied truck of all non essentials, spare tire, all tools, passenger seat, tail gate etc.. Could not go on Interstate at the speed I was going to run so stayed on frontage rd.front tires at 45psi, rear tires 42psi. I determined that these pressures gave the best footprint. Cleaned and set plugs to .040in, Mobil 1 Synthetic 5-30wt. Installed fuel-air ratio meter. I made several runs but only showing the best one. After a couple miles quit watching the tach and only kept an eye on the AF meter. 35mph got 29.9 mpg. Just going to sit back now and see all the responses claiming their 2012 5.0cc road monster gets 150 mpg at 100mph.

Takes offense to the phrase 'Damn old guy' but understands. It was 22 year old youngster that nailed me when he T Boned the bike and put me in a cast for 7 months.

It's not that hard to make one, but if your not wheeling, why? Just something to catch crud and promote rust.

90 2.5L/ Idle speed control motor removal?
jimoshel replied to lexluthier72's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
We got it out. Used a 8mm 12 point box end wrench. See if there's enough room to use a 6 point first. Save rounding of the nut. Soak with penetrating oil. The only way a socket will work is if it's a very short one. Also modifying a wrench would work. Heat and bend a box end until it looks like the old style distributer wrench. -
BEER-- BY SEVEN-YEAR-OLDS A handful of 7-year-old children were asked, 'What they thought of beer.' Some interesting responses, but the last one is especially touching. 'I think beer must be good. My dad says the more beer he drinks the prettier my mom gets.' --Tim, 7 years old 'Beer makes my dad sleepy and we get to watch what we want on television when he is asleep, So beer is nice.' --Melanie, 7 years old 'My Mom and Dad both like beer. My Mom gets funny when she drinks it and takes her top off At parties, but Dad doesn't think this is very funny.' --Grady, 7 years old 'My Mom and Dad talk funny when they drink beer and the more they drink the more they give Kisses to each other, which is a good thing.' --Toby, 7 year old 'My Dad gets funny on beer. He is funny. He also wets his pants sometimes, so he shouldn't have Too much.' --Sarah, 7 years old 'My Dad loves beer. The more he drinks, the better he dances. One time he danced right into the pool.' --Lilly, 7 years old 'I don't like beer very much. Every time Dad drinks it, he burns the sausages on the barbecue And they taste disgusting.' --Ethan, 7 years old 'I give Dad's beer to the dog and he goes to sleep.' --Shirley, 7 years old AND 'My Mom drinks beer and she says silly things and picks on my father. Whenever she drinks beer she yells at Dad and tells him to go bury his bone down the street again, But that doesn't make any sense.' --Jack, 7 years old...

Ask Jimoshel. :dunno: -
Neat. Thanks for the pics. J

Personally I think 50wt is a bit much for a stock auto-truck engine,30 should be more than adequate for most engines and 40 if it's a high mileage and smoking, rattling a little.

Now that looks like fun. Will they let me run my WW2 Shermon tank? The machine guns have been deactivated but the cannon is still operable. They won't let me drive it at the fair grounds demolition derby, the CS. :peek:

Went to the P&P this morning and found this. It's not MJ or what I went after but it's too dern nice to be crushed. Anybody want it, let me know. Otherwise it's going on to the wall of the garage.

92 ranger camper shell, will it fit a comanche?
jimoshel replied to skinnyg's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Measure it! -
I would be checking the trailer wiring before I did anything else.
-
Anybody see the article in March issue of JP magazine on the Comanche? Nothing earth shattering. Just a write up on a nice looking rig. Personally I don't know why anybody chop over a MJ when they're so many CJ, XJ, ETC to chop up and trail run with.

Really don't care what my HP is, as long as it'll get me to 75MPH in 4 seconds, or less

Transmission x-member woes
jimoshel replied to jeepcoma's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If I crawled under one of my Jeeps and saw something like that,,,I'd have to go change my drawers. I only have the deepest respect and admiration for those who tackles this crap and restores it. Nice going jeepcoma  -
FYI also, I found that taking the motor mount "ear" off the passenger side helps when removing engine, tranny and transfer case together. That too. I meant to mention it but forgot. Thank you for bringing it up.

Tuborg, San Miguel, Negra Modelo, West Virginia moonshine.

I always pull the complete drive train and separate them after I get them out. The transfer case wants to catch where the firewall floorboard joins But a little shake and it comes right out. Have the lifting chain, strap set on the engine to where it will have about 120- 175 degree tilt angle helps. Depending on the model, sometimes it is necessary to remove the condenser. Sometimes it can just be moved to one side. Removing the front clip really isn't necessary. Just remove the radiator, header and if necessary the condenser. The hood can be removed but I've found that by removing the two front bolts and loosening the two rear ones to where maybe three threads are catching the hood can be pulled back far enough for clearance. Main thing. Just make sure everything is detached from the engine. It's a PITA to get halfway out and find a wire still connected, Remove the gear shift and transfer shift levers. it won't clear with them on. I don't have any help so everything I do is a one man operation. like removing the hood.
