  1. I've drug a 16ft double axle trailer over some pretty rough country with no problem. The biggy is not the axles but the coupling. The regular ball type just doesn't have enough play for a lot of twisting. Take a look at the military pintle loop type coupling. For what you want, a single axle is more than sufficient.
  2. The trouble with these demos is they can be rigged to prove what ever it is the demonstrator is trying to prove.
  3. Which gauge cluster is supposed to be in an 87? The blue or the black/red? Its obvious someone swapped them at one point since the odometer is meddled with and the temp/oil dials don't work. Also the scratches from the tinsnips used to cut out the gear selector panel are obvious. Good effort though. The Blue.
  4. B4 I would do anything, I would stick a thermometer in the radiator and verify the temperature. Either block off the radiator or remove the thermostat first.
  5. I have seen some fantastic paint jobs done with rattle cans. True, they will never match auto paint but with proper prep it's close enough.
  6. the thing to watch out for when swapping pulleys is belt alignment. If the alignment is OK then no problem. I ran my '87 2.5 for a year with the alt pulley a 1/2 out of alignment with the others. The reason for it's short life. Swapped alternators and all is OK
  7. If I donate a car for the car crush, can I leave the body in the trunk?
  8. Why isn't there a icon of little feet in the smilies?
  9. He's referring to what's left over when you remove the front 5, or 6 feet.
  10. Coffee pot's always on and welcome mat is always out.
  11. Would be fun....... but it desperately needs a makeover. Delete the scoop, spot lights, visor, bed wing and spinners. Tuck bigger tires into the rear fenders and drop the front (if the oil pan will allow......) Don't need no stinkin oil pan. Omit it.
  12. If the cylinder walls are clean, no groove, ridge or wear marks. I'd just change the one piston out. Did you run a compression check on all cylinders B4 tearing the engine down? To repeat Eagle, do you need a piston?
  13. Just talked to the guy knows a little more about the engine. It is a 1995 3.9. Ran good. Only reason they parted it was title problems. Going over tomorrow and take a look at it. Was going to drop it into a 1987 MJ. May drop it into a '91 I have instead. We'll see. Anybody here knows anybody done this already? Anybody know of any write ups on any of the Jeep sites that may have already done this? Which will be easier. To detune the '95 engine to '87 specs? Or bring the '87 up to '95 specs? :dunno: Sure miss the good ol days when a engine swap just meant swapping engines. Not rewiring, rebuilding everything to meet modern requirements.
  14. Finally got a hold of somebody knows a little more about the engine. It's a '95. Not a '85. Going over tomorrow and take a look at it. He claims it ran good. Only reason they parted it was title problem. Got a 5spd tranny and transfer case. Hoping they still have the drive shafts. We'll see.
  15. If you have another one, I'll take them. Ain't got no use for just one.
  16. Any body familiar with it? Got a chance to pick one up complete with transmission and transfer case. Got a MJ with an empty engine bay. I just don't know anything about the Dodge 3.9 and wondering if it's any good or not. Comments? :dunno:
  17. Around 5-7 lbs PSI. This is for the factory original. There are after market market units available that turns on at 20 PSI. There are also some after market units that are adjustable.
  18. Nice. If it were closer might show more interest.
  19. Ah, okay - missed that Jim. My bad. Hey guy. Yer GOOD.. Just NOT perfect, IE= Human
  20. It is a pureblood renix that only saw a tow truck when I lost the clutch slave 50 miles from home. The slave was changed at 305,000 and the clutch itself was still a good clutch. 22. Ford out sells Rolls Royce by over 1000%. sure doesn't mean it's a better product.
  23. ^^^^^ Agrees 100%. Not knocking the creativity or workmanship. They're great. It's just not my bag. It looks like something came out of a Chinese home hobbiest shop.
  24. Standard transmission vehicles can be operated with out a clutch in emergencies. First start the engine and let it warm up. Turn it off. Place transmission in lowest gear. Start truck. Once the truck is moving you can shift gears by co=ordinating throttle and gear shift. The big rigs only use the clutch when stopping and starting. Not after the rig is in motion.
