My rebuild (some humongo pics)
feerocknok replied to feerocknok's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Had the local stereo shop install my system I ended up switching from a Power Akoustic amp to a JBL amp with 4 gauge wire instead of 8. The second sub'll be installed in a month or two, and I have to get some baffles for behind the 6x9s to keep them safe from that bar in the door from the window :redX: blurry photo, but it's a normal Pioneer MP3 deck that I'll be replacing, hopefully with a deck that has GPS. shiny amp and randomly showing off my lighting , *snicker* Also got mi rims in. 15x8, 4" backspacing, 5 on 4.5, instead of the 15x8, 4.5" backspacing, drilled for both 5 on 4.5 and 5 on 5.5. Got em from Summit for $36.95 a piece, and $11.99 for each center cap, with free shipping, hat and stickers! Front axle is being taken care of on Friday at 8:00 in the AM, and the motor is getting signed off as good for the warranty. -
It is good insurance too. I used to fry my red tops all the time cause of my crappy charging system, so a back-up walmart battery was always nice to have. With the isolator, the back-up battery always stays charged, so you don't have to worry about it going bad like you would have to on a back-up that you were just storing. Also, they're nice for campers, which I suppose is the main reason I had mine.
-
John, that definitely involved everything I didn't know how to do, but I think I did okay. Feel free to nit-pick so I can get a lil better at this.
-
Isn't the airbox where the 2nd battery would go? Ran an isolator on my GMC just like that. Was real simple, worked great, not really much to em. Not sure on the alt.

Sometimes you've got to let a truck go. As much as we all love our MJs, they are trucks, and someday there will be another truck. Whatever happens, make sure in the end you end up with an MJ.
-
Maybe where you are! We get salt, cinders, And chemicals in Bend!! Nice job on the axle swap. The fresh paint makes it look real b!tchin.
-
I salivate at the site of krawlers and MJs. Any pics of the whole truck?

my next MJ project, this time a street truck
feerocknok replied to BrettM's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I think the most common reason these trucks are hardly lowered is the solid front axle used even in 2wd. With a solid axle, one must worry about oil pan clearance, while IFS one must only worry about the control arms scraping. -
Thinking of snagging some baby swampers...

Is the KJ bolt pattern 5 on 4.5 or 5 on 5? -
What tranny?

This was in the March 2007 JP magazine that I was reading at Barnes and Noble and took a picture of with my phone:

Bobbing almost always comes out looking funny. Every bobbed Yota I've ever seen looks like it came out of a cereal box.
-
Wow, good for him, I hope he gets it. I once considered paying that kind of money on a CJ8 from Collins Bros. His Jeep sounds like a really nice rig. Did you see the pics? It's sploogelicious

Can you fit a 15? I've got a 12" going in Thursday, might run two, but didn't suspect a 15 to fit!
-
No, he really wants the 15 grand. If he's gotten 2 10 grand offerings, I have a feeling he'll get at least 12 grand out of it.

I wouldn't recommend putting a round speaker in the stock location in the rear with a bench, due to the seat being able to soak up so much of the sound and make your speakers sound muddy. Infinity is definitely the way to go. That or JBL, who is made by Infinity. JBL is more my ear, but either is

Plungers work wonders.

goldtooth, think I already asked, but where are you from in OR? Not too sure where Central Point is, but it's good to see some more Oregonians on here. Love the look of the work rack! I was thinking about building myself one, but will probably just do a rack that goes over the roof. Got any pics of the rear bumper?

My dad was jumpstarting some guys musclecar (feel dumb not remembering what it was) and they were talking, and it turns out that he's the guy that's selling the Comanche for $15000 on EBay from Sheridan, OR. He's gotten 2 offers of $10000 for it already! The only reason it's not sold for that much is that it has more than $15000 just in parts on it, not because he thinks its the rarest truck out there. However! These trucks aren't a dime-a-dozen, and the people that enjoy them the most seem to be collectors, having a bunch of them sitting in their yard. *cough* Eagle *cough*

Jeepthing, this one's plastic hit with some Cheverolet Blue engine enamel and some model paint silver on the runners. Where'd you find an aluminum one at? CW, we replaced the thermostat, but I think we put in a 160, and should have put in a 200. Is there any way to adjust timing on these? We tried turning the dist but it didn't effect timing  I'm gonna get some new rims, so Ill get the tires rebalanced and see if that'll help. Hope I don't need BBs in only 31s, but might try it. And for the trac bar, when I welded the bolt on that holds it to the axle, I think I might have damaged that bushing. -

Sorry, I've got a brand new 2.5 in my truck. Not ballsy, but it gets the job done. Looks nice and clean. How are you thinking of blending the flares together? -
I like both of the colors you posted! Only yellow MJs I've ever seen were in that Penzoil ad that was on here a few months back. Are those D-Shackles bolted through stock or tubing?
-
That's what I was thinking, but so many gray hairs were staring, it was hard to think.
-
I believe all MJs came with B-Pillar lighting, but on most trucks, these are broken. I have a visor light in mine as well.
