Windshield Replacement
mikekaz1 replied to 1992EliminatorSWB4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It want hard to remove mine. Just kind of snapped off the clips. But finding would be just hit or miss on if you can find a per 92 XJMJ in the junkyard -
Giving a quick look on Google images. Looks like they are about centered within the horizontal part of the flare. Idk maybe I'm just not THAT much of a purest. But I did a "custom" badge set up. So I guess I'm in another class anyways.

Just Google an image of a Cherokee or Comanche. And ball park. Both used the same mounting position for their badges. I'm sure nobody would ever noticed if you were an inch off.

Windshield Replacement
mikekaz1 replied to 1992EliminatorSWB4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Weird. My windshield channel was too "deep". When they went to install my windshield with the gasket the a pillars made the gasket flare almost straight up. Ended up ripping the gasket off and just rolling a bead of silicone around the edge to seal and fill the gap.it doesn't look 100% but from 5ft away it looks good. I HATED the metal trim. It trapped way too much debris behind it. -

What to do with all my wires
mikekaz1 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dual terminal. Or marine are very handy. I really like using the marine because you have a nice clean well threaded power and ground lug. I have a plow setup among other accessory's too. And the marines nice as I can tap everything onto the studs. And route them all down against the wheel well and then let them scatter. Still a cluster @#$% in that corner but It makes the initial under hood check pretty clean -
question about axles and gauges
mikekaz1 replied to vandior2001's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
curious, how much did you pay? also... what would the JY have that you need? -
a basic rule of thumb is anything behind the door jamb (interior and exterior) is completely specific to the MJ and will not (easily) interchange with a XJ or any other vehicle.

for a while I was intermittently blowing my park fuse, until it got to the point it was EVERY time I used the headlights I blew the park fuse. it ended up being my taillight harness, more precisely my license plate lights (ground and power wires) were melted and fused together, among other previous failed "repairs" by previous owners . try unplugging your tail light harness, its just behind the drivers rear tire on the inside of the frame rail, then replace the park fuse and try turning the headlight switch on. this will atleast isolate issues to before or after the tail light harness.

expanding foam LOVES to hold moisture... will often rust panels out multiple times faster as no foam at all. just a thought -
I debated doing this as I have a spare complete ZJ gas tank... but realized the time, hassle, money and weight to make it work, wasn't worth it for how much I drive the truck.
-
You can't over tighten the lock ring. They have 3 little tabs that press against the 3 hold downs on the tank itself. Tap it with a hammer till these touch and 99% of the time you will be perfect. If these aren't touching them (or really close) its not on all the way. It may still work, but its not right.

I agree.

Direct Mount Coolant Temperature Gauge
mikekaz1 replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ah OK. That's what I was figuring actually. Rather then going back and fourth to the dash, a got one right there -
Uh... you should probably strap down the vehicle to the dolly

4.0l Years Flywheel Interchange?
mikekaz1 replied to Wild Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm guessing the throttle body is clean since its brand new but what about the sensors? Are the new? Old? Mounted correctly? You said you went to a 99 intake. That means you can't use the renix TB (3 bolts right?) so are your factory sensors even compatible? Does it change if you disconnect the throttle cables? I swore they routed differently between renix and HO... but haven't been around a renix recently
