First off youll need to get a working transfer case that is 4x4 ready, also a front axle and driveshaft. Thats just big stuff.

random question; do you have a toaster that ACTUALLY toasts?
86customanche replied to jpnjim's topic in The Pub
Thats terrible, toasters should definitely toast what is put in them. I bought a toaster about 3 years ago as my most recent and it works great. Maybe you need to look for older, maybe used toasters. They seem to last a very long time. -
:agree: I'm not familiar with the markup that CA cars have but I wouldnt pay 2k for that. With what you say is a crappy paint job and loose wires, not to mention only 2wd, that seems like a lot of work to make it nice. And being in a wreck, you don't know how bad of a wreck it was and what may or may not have been replaced. I guess it depends on what you are looking for the truck to be able to do and how much you are looking to do yourself on the truck. Id say 1500 IMO max

Wow! Thats pretty impressive. Original cluster?

which would you choose?
86customanche replied to M1A1TankerTom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well it really depends on what kind of wheeling you plan on doing. A lot of rocks and sideways angles, the 6.5 may make it a little top heavy and want to roll over easier but will also have more clearance. For me, I don't do rock crawling really at all, mostly mud holes and trails here in VA, Id go with the 6.5 and 35s because I'm not too worried about being a little top heavy. I want the extra ground clearance so I don't get stuck in mud that 35s offer. -
1970 Jeep Comanche
86customanche replied to landlubber's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I like that look but no chance its a comanche. J-series. These people and their incorrect listings :fs1: -
Yes, SW virginia is still technically part of south-east US. Roanoke area.

Thats a good point  I drive by that house almost every day so I will for sure keep my eye out for it again

nice work! its usually the other way around for me. If I find myself running late to something, I always seem to get stuck behind the slow drivers on the country roads going at or below the speed limit (very easy to go 10 over in my area). You are one lucky guy to be running late and get the good traffic. But you didnt mention how this date went.

old thread, new post/truck. Ive seen the same red MJ at the same house the past few days. I wouldve stopped and found the owner to chat but was on my way somewhere both times and didnt have any extra time. And of course, when I was on my way past that house later, on my way home, the truck was gone :fs1: I kinda know the guy that lives there and I know the truck isnt his so I hope they stay friends so I can have a chat with another MJ owner.

I don't see a problem other than not being able to drive it away Glad to see your keeping as many as you can on the road.

Ill probably end up replacing the radiator, might even add a new electric fan while its out to make things easier. Any different brands of 3 core radiators better than another? And is that 12 blade fan my best/easiest fit?

This is on my 92 MJ trail rig in my sig

I have a feeling that this is a somewhat common problem but my MJ overheats while wheeling it. On the road, everything seems just fine and dandy, no heating issues, but when I'm wheeling at low speeds/high rpms, it tends to overheat after awhile. I'm curious as to what is causing this to happen. It usually is fine until I have to go up a steep hill or through a mudhole where the rpms are very high for very low speeds. A PO had installed a second fan on the radiator on a switch that I'm guessing was used to help prevent this issue but one of the fan blades has been broken since I've owned the truck so is no good. Do I just need to replace that fan and use it off-road? Or is there something else that I could do?

I have many craftsman tools and rarely have a problem. A year or two ago my bench vice broke (a friend was using a breaker bar on it for some stupid reason) and it was bout 25 years old and they took it back for free with no questions even though that item no longer has the lifetime warranty. Then just the other day, I finally got around to returning my broken socket wrench and I was in and out of the store in 30 seconds. Guys seemed to be waiting for me. I usually go with those or Kobalt due to price and convenience.

I have one that needs to be completely rebuilt. But the block is in decent shape. Came out of '86

Nice find and welcome! What are your long term plans for her? Looks like its in pretty good cond. except for that dent behind the drivers door. That may be tough to fix and get a good seal on the glass.

bedliner over bare metal?
86customanche replied to landlubber's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I say rough up the metal, you can use a wire wheel or the hand scrub that most kits provide. Before you put the hurc on, clean the surface. Wash is good so there isnt a bunch of debris left behind. The more prep work you do, the better the end result will be. -
I sort of agree with you. I don't collect anything but not because I think its hoarding. I don't collect anything because mainly I don't have the time. Work and traveling to see the gf take up most of my time.
