  1. Should be pretty sweet, good deal for $600. The only thing I would suggest if you wanna keep it more on the streetable side is not going spring over, especially with a 44 out back. Thats gonna give you a whole lot of lift. If you only want to run 31's that could be done very easily. Big lifts are nice sometimes, but they cost big money as you have to replace, or improve pretty much everything.
  2. Since its an 87, it has the not so good Peugeot trans. Since the trans needs to come out anyway, you might as well upgrade to an AX 15 from a late 89 or newer XJ/MJ. You can probably find one pretty cheap. Cats are easy, 4 bolts hold it to the exhaust, and its clamped to the pipe going to the muffler. If your lucky it won't be rusted together like mine was, and will actually come out.
  3. No need to "burp" the system to remove air. also, many people, my self included have either cured there overheating problems, or it resulted in their engine running cooler. I believe Pete used an open system radiator in his closed system with no problems, if you don't feel like doing the full swap.
  4. Nows a good time to do the open cooling system swap. Use the cooling parts from the 96, and remove the pressure bottle. Its an easy swap to do, but helps a lot
  5. Looks to be an eliminator, the white stripe above the body trim and the wheels make seem so. Check the vin, if you find a "66" then its an elim.
  6. His pic is showing the stud on the very front of the exhaust manifold, bottom left, that is a threaded stud with a nut
  7. engaging 4wd with a locker does the same thing as the rear, locks the axle shafts together, and supplies them with equal power. I agree with pete, leave it open for now. I've heard lunchbox lockers are pretty much invisible up front, but if your going to DD a lot I'd put a selectable in. Only problem is they're big $$
  8. 1st of all let me say welcome to the club :wavey: Most every thing can be changed out. there are a range of years you may use to part out for your truck. lifts is not somthing that will fit your truck out of a xj. also there are no body lifts just suspension lifts. Hellcreek.com is a good company to go with they use rough county parts with a few add on's. they also give a %10 discount for comanche club members. what do you plan on using your truck for? 31" tires will fit on stock suspension. a 4.5" lift will be good with 33" tires and 6" is ok for 35's. a 6" lift is about twice as much as a 4.5" lift. I hope that the info that i could give you was a help  Brandon To be more precise, XJ's an MJ's are virutally the same from the cab forward. Front suspension components WILL work from an XJ, but the leafs on an MJ are longer, and as stated before are spring under. Also, 31's will fit on a 4x4 on stock wheels with some minor lower control arm rubbing at full lock, its questionable for 2x4's. A stock truck with aftermarket wheels and 31's will rub the fenders/flares and require cutting, or some sort of lift in the front.
  9. If the tag is still on the front axle, then it should have the gear ratio stamped on it. Also, an auto 4.0 XJ was 3.55 geared, so finding one should be very easy.
  10. I would personally go with a newer XJ dana 30. Bigger, stronger u joints. Brakes are a little different, but thats an easy fix
  11. :agree: SOA heights very greatly, depending on your leaf pack, axle type, spring perch height. My 92 was SOA with a 35 an stock 4wd springs that were pretty old. my front was lifted 5" an sat just about level. I would say the rear was at 5.5" maybe 6" but thats stretching it. I ran 32's an coulda fit 33's, 35's would have definitely needed some trimming
  12. If its an 86, theres no way it would have a 44, if it were metric tonne, it would have the even rarer M20..... 86 only! Yes, I know, from what rob was saying its an 87, either one would be a very nice surprise
  13. Yea, I'll check everything of importance, another 44 would be nice
  14. Honestly I thought it was a short bed too, but the 86 thing screwed with my eyes I guess. I'll call the guy tomorrow. I'll definitely grab as much specific stuff I can
  15. I can never remember how the factory roll bars mount. But just realized 86's only came long bed... damn. I guess the search continues. Would be a good find for someone with a LWB though http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/2041567604.html

  17. You can see the bottom in a few shots, and its got a nice oval shape to it. An i'm starting to think the word "custom" adds value. Any modded vehicle I've seen lately has custom in every other sentence
  18. Drill the head of the screw out carefully. I've done it a lot
  19. Guy has no idea. Dana 44 my a$$, its a 35
  20. To motion offroad. I know some people dislike this company for there own reasons, however I am very pleased with their customer service. I recently ordered a few items from them, and rather than finding out once the package arrived that some items were back ordered, I received a phone call from the president of the company letting me know the status of something as little as a sticker, and that it would be arriving asap. They helped me with a question on the header I bought, and today I received an envelope with an extra sticker along with a very nice letter from their president, Adam who I believe is a member on here. I rarely see this type of customer service, and was pleasantly surprised. I will for sure buy from them again, and would recommend them to anyone.
  21. :clapping:
  22. :agree: , the one in hazelton seems more promising. Theres gotta be one mj in the 10000 plus cars there
  23. sent
  24. Was there about 3 weeks ago. No MJ's, about 10 XJ's ranging from 87 to 99
