  1. Put studded tires on for the season.
  2. :D
  3. Around here [Oregon], the highway department puts magnesium chloride on the roads as a de-icer in the winter [and volcanic cinder for traction which damages paint and windows, but that's another story]. Magnesium chloride corrodes aluminum, and a plastic-capped radiator may be more beneficial as there is less exposed aluminum by having a portion that is plastic. I replaced my radiator in my 87 this year with a plastic capped one just because of this consideration, since the last one was eaten thin [and seeping] from years of de-icer exposure.
  4. Should say month/year on the edge of your door.
  5. You know you put it there ;)
  6. Well the Series didn't turn out the way I would have liked it. I am glad I missed the game due to work but watching the recap... ohh maaann was that ugly. I mean really- a hit batter walking in a run on loaded bases with one out? That jackwagon should be kicked down to Triple A for that performance. :wall: Oh well, there's alway spring training coming up in a few short months to catch some [hopefully] good news about the Rangers. I'm just glad they made it as far as they did.

    wow...

I made it about 15 seconds then hit the 'back' button.
  8. Ok, I've been restraining myself from posting in this thread, but jeeeeze was Game 6 enough to shatter some nerves.
  9. I was going to say something witty about your mechanic buddy and him rethinking being a mechanic, but I will refrain. If you want to swing by and pick it up, I have a complete steering wheel like the one pictured that you can have at no cost. Let me know when you want to come by so I can dig it out of the garden shed.
  10. The obvious accessory to the bike would be a handlebar mounted minigun like in Machete. Just in case.
  11. Thats a lot of dough- my 1993 10th Anniversary Edition Accord was a shade over $17k new.
  12. Put on a set of GC Silverstars.
  13. 2 MJ's [as my signature indicates] 87 SWB 2wd purchased in 2007, 86 LWB 4wd purchased in 2011. The 87 is my daily driver, and the 86 is a stripped rusty rolling shell in my garage.
  14. In all seriousness, I have 2 sets of good snow tires similar in tread pattern to the ones above- one set with studs [no studs missing], and one set without. Perhaps a new set of Nokians or Hankooks are in order, as both sets are a over 2 years old. I like the idea of a framework around the wheel arches made out of 2bys that the sandbags can sit in.
  15. I've been using 2 or 3 sandbags in the bed of the truck to weigh down the bed for better traction on ice/snow during the past few winters, but at the end of the season, the sandbags themselves are looking tattered and frayed [and slide around on the bedliner during a fast stop], and had one actually split removing it this spring. I already use studded tires for traction [2wd], and have a fiberglas canopy to add some weight in addition to bags of sand. Which leads me to ask: What do you guys use to weigh down the back of your trucks? Any suggestions for alternatives other than sandbags?
  16. Its a cheap starter First Act bass that I picked up for $30. It has fresh strings on it and has a nice strap and collapsable stand. My 16 year old daughter has had a wild hair of trying to learn guitar for the past year off and on, so to compliment her cheap acoustic 6 string at her mother's, I picked up a bass for her to play with while at my place. She's getting it, but has a loooong way to go. Awesome! I've been trying to get my two sons into music as well. Older one has a cheepie acoustic six string and the younger one has an electric 4 string. I told her she can learn any song she wants on the guitars... country, rock, blues, metal, jazz, whatever... as long as it isn't Judas Priest's Living After Midnight... that song is soooooo repetitive to listen to someone practice. The song drives me nuts, and I like Priest!
  17. Its a cheap starter First Act 4 string bass in sparkly black that I picked up for $30.
  18. Issues we have had with our 02 Escape since we picked it up in 2006: Transfer case failure [repaired under warranty at 70k... fortunately] Squeaky passenger rear brake caliper [both Tributes and Escapes have this common issue] Hard start when colder than 20F outside [both Tributes and Escapes have this common issue] Stock 6-disc CD player does not load/eject CDs properly sometimes [dry and dusty environment in central oregon] Yes, the intake has to be removed for plugs, but a lot of transverse mounted engines these days have the same requirement for basic services. None of the other issues listed have been noticed, and it currently has 112K on it.
  19. Yesterday, I had front rotors machined, repacked the bearings, bought a full tank of gas, and put 160 miles on her picking up four 235/70-16s and a bass guitar via local craigslist.
  20. Alright, that does it- where can I get a horizontal grille like that? How tough would it be to make something along those lines?
  21. Crap indeed. I knew Detroit was going to play their heart out to stay alive. On the bright side, the Rangers can eliminate the Tigers at home for the home crowd. :)
  22. Unfortunately. Its the closest NL team; the Mariners are the closest AL team... that and the A's. Most tv/radio coverage is for the Mariners, which is fortunate since the Rangers are in the same division, as are the A's. With the WS win last year there's plenty of people with Giants ballcaps and sweatshirts around this neck of the woods. A lot of Yankees posers too. When I went to an event at Infineon/Sears Point at the north end of the bay this past April, I made sure I wore my Rangers ballcap... just to get people wound up. :D
  23. I gotta say that Detroit has some pretty good hitters on the team and some great pitchers, but it doesn't look good for it being their year to get to the World Series. Cruz is a machine that without the Rangers could likely be 1-3 instead of 3-1 going into tonight's game. I wear my Rangers and Mavericks decals on the back window of my MJ's canopy with pride in a region full of Mariners, Trailblazers, and Giants fans.
