Picked up 4 new studded snow tires and steelies for this winter and replaced the amber corner marker on the drivers' side.

I spy with my little eye a yellow Ferrari 360 in the background of the OD motorcycle pic, and a closeup of a 430 Scuderia left front wheel. Were there any other cars at the show other than those two?... I didn't notice.

Bolt pattern for the MJ
AMCJeepMJ replied to 89comancheowner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
5x4.5" bolt pattern. -
Awww, mannn.

The 8th position is a 7. Looks like a 35 for the rear axle.

So, the 86 I picked up last night has 4wd, 2.8 v6 [missing], 5 speed, and it has 5 leaves in the rear spring pack. Is there a way to tell with the VIN what the trim level or package of the vehicle is, or is it the plate under the hood? I can no longer find the link how to decipher the underhood plate. Please advise.

How to cut MJ in half to make trailer out of bed?
AMCJeepMJ replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So I got it home last night and it does not have a crushed roof and severly damaged front as described to me. It does, however, have a mildly crunched front, tweaked passenger door, and no engine. Time to push it into the garage and find the blades for the Sawzall! -
Have you checked your gear oil or ATF level?

How to cut MJ in half to make trailer out of bed?
AMCJeepMJ replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No state inspection in Oregon [only emissions for the Portland/Salem corridor], and trailers do not require titling if under a certain load weight. Flatbeds and enclosed cargo trailers, yes. Pickup trailers, dual snowmobile/motorcycle/ATV trailers, and other similar light duty trailers, no. They just have to have working lights/signals. There are some really ghetto trailers around here that wouldn't be remotely legal in other states. -
How to cut MJ in half to make trailer out of bed?
AMCJeepMJ replied to AMCJeepMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Would a trailer axle be preferred for weight savings, ground clearance, and drag incurred by the turning axle/diff and therefore be a better route to go than retaining the D35? -
Not familiar with these. What did they come on? Duster, Dart, Valiant, Scamp... but not the ones that have drum brakes- those are 5x4" and won't work. I almost did a set of 73 Dart wheels this spring... almost.

The Jumpmanche
AMCJeepMJ replied to Exxon Valdez Jeep's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Wow heck of a story and drive. Have made that drive a few times myself going from Dallas TX to Oregon during the snowy season to avoid Wyoming. At least Flagstaff has relatively flat streets which is good for 3rd gear limping through intersections.- 78 replies

Here's the deal: I have access to a 2wd long bed MJ which is wrecked [bad] in the front, no engine, and crushed roof [large branch]. Interior is gross thanks it sitting with no windows for 2 years. The goal is to make a trailer out of the back [generally undamaged] half. The front half is destined for the crusher after any good parts are stripped. So, apart from taking out the fuel tank and lines, and removing the brake lines and parking brake cable, [no trans or driveshaft] and severing the wiring... where would I begin to cut to bisect the truck? Under the cab? Between cab and bed? Slightly under bed behind the cab? Forget cutting and put the bed on a trailer chassis? I have access to reciprocating saws and other hand non-pneumatic power tools [no torches/welders either]. Please advise!

Things I learned about my MJ this week.
AMCJeepMJ replied to mjtjnj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You have my interest, as my 87's reverse lights also do not work. Where may I find the TCU fuse so I can check it? -
Still have my first; picked it up in early 2007. Ugly as ever.

Put a Mavericks decal on. This is sure to get a few Blazers fans twisted.
-
Installed freshly painted factory 5-star wheels.
-
VERY cool pics. I miss visiting Colorado.

Those machine gun barrel exhaust pipes are a nice touch.

So here's the final verdict. Since I like the look of OEM wheels, I went with: 10 hole studded wheels for winter wheels (studded tires) 5-spoke wheels with a repaint (as shown below in progress) The 3 remaining sets are going to the metal recyclers unless I find a local CL buyer for them for at least $15 a wheel or $60 a set.
-
Took a closer look at the Rangers last night and they are only 6" wide, just like the Wagoneer wheels. The other 3 sets are 7" wide.

Oh come on, I've taken my stock 02 Ford Escape (3.0 AWD) up and down roads and embankments waaaay worse than that and survived with just Uniroyal all-season tires... which are nowhere near as aggressive Pirelli Scorpions. Thanks for the pics; glad you had fun. Enjoy cleaning up the mud on the underside  ... I wouldn't.

http://eastoregon.craigslist.org/cto/2449088873.html Rolled. Too bad I can't afford to make the drive or get the bumpers... or make a trailer out of the back half...
-
What atvantage would steelies have over alloy wheels, or vice-versa for a 2wd truck that does primarily highway miles?

WTF am I thinking? I have these sitting around in the garage: XJ Wagoneer wheels (bad finish): These damn things painted black: XJ Sport wheels painted black (and currently on): XJ 10 hole studded wheels (bad finish, winter wheels): and these 15" Ranger wheels (with no centercaps): So, which do I keep, and which do I turn in to the recycle place for $15 a wheel? other info: -I need to keep 2 sets, and I like the 10 hole studded wheels. -All sets are either painted or have bad finishes except the Ranger wheels which are perfect but missing centercaps... and they're still Ranger wheels. -Wagoneer wheels aren't very common, but they're not the prettiest on the planet. -5 spoke wheels are too common and boooooring -10 hole no stud Sport wheels have a good recent paint job. Engage!
