all wheel drive jeep
benjy_26 replied to 1989comancheking's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never driven a 242 equipped Jeep. What happens when a tire slips? Does the AWD system go crazy? -
Question for you stroker guys.

How much did you deck your head? -
i can't just stop mudding, that's like tellin someone to stop smokin :rotf: Snorkle i've thought about a snorkle but that still doesn't stop the fact of the water that gets on top of the air cleaner i do have the factory air cleaner if a air cleaner hose from the cleaner to the grille top one would be nice for a snorkle, bottom would be great untill i flood out, Redwolf Damn. You run that deep in 2wd?

ATF makes plastidip come up quickly, fwiw.

If it were me, I'd look for something like this: http://www.spectreperformance.com/mobile/product.aspx?prod=755 Then do the "windstar mod". http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/windstar-cowl-intake-1117102/

Hell, if it works....

Mild Xj Build With Take Offs And Jy Parts
benjy_26 replied to Comanche County's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Very nice! I dig that you got it into tgat kind of shape with minimal outlay. You make me want to get another XJ to do a cheap build on, -
56" and change for the Scout 800 D44. The front is a closed knuckle D30; not the best thing to get. Unless you're going with tires bigger than 35's I'd stick with a Jeep D30 in the front and swap in an Explorer 8.8 in the back or go with a ChryCo 8.25. Using a 40 year old rear end just because it's a D44 makes no sense to me.
-
Depends. What's your intended use for the vehicle?
-
BTW, My OME's netted me about 1.75" of lift in the front and about the same in the rear.
-
I've never had OME shocks, unfortunately. I do know that the best shocks I've had on my ZJ with the OME coila have been the RS9000's. I've tried ProComps, Bilsteins, and Superlifts with those springs as well.

A bit of scrap wire and a few minutes can get a noid working on that bad boy. ;) -

From what I understand, 2 things (that *I* know of) that could cause a no spark/no pulse issue us the CPS and the pickup coil. You tested the injector pulse with a noid light, right? -
Look at my build thread or, for that matter, the avat pic on my profile. Those are 31x1050 BFG AT KO's on 15x8 MB wheels with a Rancho 3" lift in the front. I really like these tires for a DD that can go anywhere in pretty much any weather. I also have a 2.5 and it does well in most conditions. You have to keep in mind, a MJ IS a light truck. Maybe a 235/75R16 KM2 would work for your needs, or even a 30x9.5 if you plan on keeping the 15" wheels and don't want to regear.
-
It does okay. In fact, Hesco sells (or used to sell, as did Jeep) a conversion kit for that exact purpose. A friend of mine installed one in/on a YJ several years ago for a customer. Overall, you get an improvement over the stock 4.2L but it still won't be a 4.0L. The 4.2L has a longer stroke but a smaller bore. Long-stroke engines are good for torque but they don't particularly like to rev. Damn. I thought I had found a sneaky way of making a REALLY low buck stroker! :)

MJ Pic Request. 34" Swampers
benjy_26 replied to SayBye's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's weird. Maybe Yokohamas run big. My 285's on the ram measure a bit over 33.25 and they're woooooooorn! -
Just us 2.5 boys.........shameless plug.........
benjy_26 replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For a fleeting moment..........no, not really. I have searched the web high and low for months, only one other had modified the MPI intake and I could only find one other that has properly built his 2.5. I cannot afford the science so I'm going to rely on luck and what little bit theory I've read about. The only expectation I have of this little 4banger is pure bottom end grunt. I'm hoping to get the most out of the long runners and the mix of fuel and air at the TB and not the valve chamber. Air-flow, for the sake of massive air-flow, is not my objective here. I never follow the path of others and I'm not afraid to stick my neck out.....we'll see where it all leads. I was thinking the same thing. I'd like to build a 2.9 stroker from 505 and just run tbi. I just want some more grunt in a s ooth, linear fashion. -

That's TOO CLEAN! Thanks for the heads up! -
A slightly shorter spring over?

MJ Pic Request. 34" Swampers
benjy_26 replied to SayBye's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
BTW, 285/75R16 is fairly close to 34x1050. I think most manufacturers' tires in that size end up being something like 33.5-34" tall and about 11" wide. -
I've heard that using a HO head on a 4.2 is something the CJ guys do for a power boost. I wonder how a 4.2 with the 4.0HO head and FI system would work in one of our trucks...

A slightly shorter spring over?
benjy_26 replied to Rockfrog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's actually why I'm interested in the shackles. I plan on redoing the bushings and cleaning up my stock springs while I get myself either some 3" lift leaves or aome new MT packs. -
opinions on differential oil?
benjy_26 replied to Dom U's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not too familiar with the Track Lock diff, but IF you have one, you may need some sort of friction modifier.
