  1. Pure awesomeness
  2. I used to work for a dock company on a barge as a operator/welder. All we had was a Hobart 140 with self shield wire. I welded everything from marine rail systems, anchor points, pin brackets and of course just general docks. Never had a failure. These docks are steel frame lift outs up to 50' that get lifted from the end vertically and pivot at shore line. These are heavy. Also the rail systems support everything from 12' aluminum to a 621 ranger with 300hp. Welds where made on up to half inch plate sometimes for rock anchors and shoe pivot points. Of course they where multipass. I went to school for welding and had a lot of expirence with this specific process in a professional setting. I wouldn't hesitate to use on perches. And I have with out any issue. Also there is a front d44 in a buddies TJ and all the welding was done with a 110 welder. It gets wheeled hard and never had any issues. 1/4" brackets. With all of the above said, I will be getting soon a 220 mig for my garage. My 110 works but yes I would be more confident with a more powerful machine. If all you have is a 110, make it work. Get it warm, make sure you burn in a good root pass. Then I'd put 2 more passes for good measure. I just read something recently about someone who bought a YJ and was redoing the leafs or something. He noticed shoddy welding on the perches and whacked them good with a 4lb hammer and they came off. Just a little spooky..
  3. You didn't bring it home?
  4. Congratulations!

  12. Please post pics.
  13. My guess is that XJ is gonna be 1/8 of the price to fix then the stupid duty. I'd say the XJ gave it a good @$$ kicking.
  14. It is simple: sometimes people are overlooking things. Not knowing each individual poster and their knowledge level it is possible that said poster has been fed a line of bull, such as the smaller than average D44 axle tube MJ version is some god-send axle. For every disgruntled poster ( or a person taking the thread equally off topic with their "stay on topic rant" ) you get as many responses along the lines of "Thanks, I never thought of that" or "Man, everybody told me that I had to go to xxxx to get xxxx." If you say you have never suggested an alternative route to someone in a post I would call shenanigans. I noticed that while complaining about people including extraneous info/opinions you took your chance to interject your opinions ( I don't, its not, it's not) when your opinions are just as irrelevant as the other opinions you are complaining about. You could have made your point more easily without posting your opinions but apparently added your own unnecessary (your claim) opinions. The OP wants answers, not opinions, right? Mr. Pot, meet Mr. Kettle. JeepDriver also makes a point regarding the info actually IN the OP. (BTW: The comments were "not worth the hassle," "easily comparable to", and "offer nothing over" not that the D44 is inferior or the 8.25 superior. ) Regardless, I posted the title of this thread the way I did because that's the wording i kept coming back too after searching all over a few forums. I don't care what fits a 8.25 specifically (this time in this thread) only a D44. I plan to post exactly what works in this thread for future use! AK Sorry. I couldn't tell which rule applied to this thread at this time and which didn't  . Another off-topic suggestion/opinion, just as a reader, is that if you get a plan together you could make a new thread with the good info in the first post or edit it into the first post of this thread if nothing else. Even if it is relevant many don't like reading through responses, even relevant ones like "didn't so-and-so do this?", to get to the good stuff. No apologies needed. But yes I agree; probably a post in the DIY section would be better.
  15. Go visit Door County and catch some salmon and trout! I hope to go this year.

  17. So they are the same width. That was another question of mine! Thanks Pat for the detailed post. I know I looked into the KJ stuff a few years ago but yes like you said, no yards had Libertys. The reason I like the idea of new parts is stuff rusts so fast up here so most brake stuff sitting in the dirt is junk.
  18. Last year we made it as far as Silver Bay. Ok, you didn't see nothing then!! It seems all the sights and scenery gets better the farther up 61 you go. It doesn't seem like it.....it does get better.
  19. I had a line on a scrambler but it dried up.... About typical with old jeeps. Folks change their minds... That's a nice start for a project!
  20. Holy smokes. That's clean. Wish I had the patience to do that type of work.
  21. Yeah for sure! They look good but yeah definitely for a 03-05. What size tires?
  22. Where can I find the backing plates? You talking D35 plates?
  23. Actual link to shifter? How did it work out?
  24. Found some treasure at a swap meet today. Stay tuned.
