Anyone besides Pete, Don, and myself carryovers from the Yahoo site? Rob

This. I bought my current XJ with Michelin LTX tires and I don't think they ever wear. They have phenominal traction in all types of weather, including snow (I work for a municipality, so I leave for work before plows come out). They are super quiet, balance with little weight, and have a good all around classic look. I bought the Jeep with 100K on it, and it now has 140K. As Don said, it's like they never wear. Great sipes, great traction, very quiet. Rob

Rare doesn't even begin to describe it. I've seen a TON of MJ's over the years. I have only seen reference of that decal in my old parts books. I have NEVER seen one, not even in a catalog. I always assumed it was more of a small badge than that fantastic display of "Four Wheeler of the Year, what 'cha gonna do 'bout it!?" I'd love some detailed pics and measurements. Rob -

I get it now. It eliminates the latch and you just feed through the belt. One way of doing it. Must be stronger? Rob -

HOLY COW!!! I've never seen one of the factory "COMANCHE Four Wheeler of the Year" Decals!!! Super Jealous! Is there any way you could take some detailed pictures with a ruler for scale so we could reproduce yours? It may be the only in existence. I'm loving the truck. A '86 XLS 2.5L 4x4 with AMC 20 is one of my dream trucks. I have to ask too, what is going on with the seatbelt latches? They look, different. Nice truck! Rob  -
C all the live long day Don. Brings out the chrome, adds some eye candy to the belt line, breaks up all the lighter colors of the truck... Just makes everything pop. Don, I would seriously suggest some time with some of that Plasti-dip paint or the Duplicolor Custom wrap. I would try it out on the truck and if you don't like it, peel it off. We did the GF's fender flares on the TJ at the beginning of summer and it's held up great. Rob

The Good, Bad, and Rusty - 8/15 CL List

This is great. I can't tell you how awesome this is. I sent a message on that brush guard. Hopefully he is willing to ship. I've been looking for one of those for forever. Rob -

That thing reeks of botchery. I mean, just look at the rims in the photo... They couldn't be bothered to take the rims off to paint them so they just spray bombed the whole shebang, hub, lug nuts, and all? And that is all on the surface. Me think that is a turd under the thin veil of poor photography. Hard pass. Rob

1986 Metric Ton Diesel
Automan2164 replied to terrawombat's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
You just jarred my memory. I might have picked up the tools only portion some time ago. I remember picking them up off an end table in the living room awhile back. Time to do some searching. Thanks for the info. I do really like the case mounted all in one place and together. May just end up going that route. Rob  -

If you spend some time under there, you can see that the top end is pretty wrenchable. I soaked mine for a week, and with very delicate 1/4 turns out, 1/8 turns back in, ended up coming out. My cousin's XJ wasn't so lucky. I just took an air hammer with a pointed tip. A quick zap in the middle pops the nuts off, then like Adam said, tape the nut to the closed end of a wrench, and fish it up there. Rob

Been awhile since I wondered into this area... Needs some updating. Had some restructuring at work, a leadership role was opened up, I applied and was promoted to Fleet Division Foreman. My co-worker did an internal transfer to another division, I brought in one of the good guys from another division that knew enough about cars, and hired external where a former manager of mine now works in my team. I just put the paperwork together to submit to council for a $160,000 plow truck. Same job, just with more paperwork and a/c time. And an office in an electrical room. Like Milton in Office Space. I love what I do, and the guys I work with. Pay could be a little better, but it could be worse. Rob

Are these just general Diesel Technology books? If so, I appreciate the offer, but I still have mine from tech school. I would love for them to go to someone who is learning or just getting their feet wet. If they are the factory ones, I may be interested. Rob

Are you pulling the 'nest with it? Rob

As someone who maintains and oversees a police fleet, that is one of the most solid DD cars anyone can have. Problems have long been ironed out, the traditional drive train, while antiquated, is swiss watch reliable. Problems are few and minor. Worst things we have encountered are transmissions, which really aren't bad at all. We usually go Ford reman, which gets us a 2 year unlimited mile warranty. The transmissions on the way out will do a tell tale slip and bang if you are coasting at 25ish mph, let off for a second, and then put it to the floor. If it hesitates and slams (like break tires loose slam) it may be of concern. If I had more room I would pick one up at auction. As lowly said, they actually tow decent also. A former coworker's father had one that he would hitch a car hauler to and tow around his classic cars... Even a 62 Galaxy 500 convertible. Nice grab, have fun with it. Rob

Just wanted to see if anyone was near Catoosa County GA. It is on the NW edge of the state. I found an XJ I am kinda interested in, and would really like to have someone put eyes on it that knows what they are looking at. I really just want to know about paint/condition as the pics the sellers posted are less than stellar. I will reimburse for your time and fuel. Thanks, Rob
