$200+ is about average for the plain janers. Lighted ones? Foggettabowtit. Rob

That white/black trim has always been a favorite MJ combo of mine. Great looking truck. (This is my OCD... I have to say something... Was resisting... The 4X4 emblems are a bit too high.) :peek:

"Priced for a quick sale at $12,500" HA! Nice, but $12,500 is a collector price, not a quick sale price. Rob

Is this a real turbo diesel?
Automan2164 replied to airspeed's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I've seen this thing in person when Pat's dad owned it. The underside/framerails are surprisingly clean for how the outside looks. I would have thought the thing would be ready to taco, but I've seen much cleaner rigs with worse frames. As for the running part, even though it has 250ish thousand miles, it runs better than my 150K truck. Pat's dad worked at a truck shop for years and took good care of it. (Mechanically) When they picked it up it needed the rockers replaced because of a blown timing belt, and since then he had really made himself familiar with it. He used it to go back an fourth to work and as a utility vehicle. Last time I saw it running he was using it as a garbage hauler to bring the cans to the road and run back and fourth between the barn and house. The precombustion chamber had a crack in it, so if you really beat it, it would force some air into the coolant. Still... If someone wanted to pick it up, I think there is enough meat there to make something out of it. I would think it is worth about $1,500 to $2,000 if it still runs as good as it did when I last saw it. Rob -
We take bids from local people for a dumping site. Lately it has been a gravel pit who we pay, then they end up turning it to black dirt and selling it. Rob

We have three of the Spartan Leaf Pro + models seen towards the end behind the Batavia township trucks. They are the biggest ones. They use a Kubota pony motor and impeller the size of Texas. Rob

Someone here had turned it into a downloadable ringtone some years ago. May be a way to keep the mind satisfied. Rob

Yep, we have our own leaf collection vacs. We have tow-behind units that have their own pony motors and a seat. They habe to go behind our International dump trucks. You use a joystick and it moves a hose large enough to crawl through side to side and sucks the leaves up. The hoppers hold 20 to 25 yards and they usually fill up 3 machines 3 to 4 times each daily for 4 weeks. I'll post some pics when I think about it. The impellors are a 2 man lift and smash anything to bits. Our older machines have holes in the steel rear doors from hard objects launched via the impellor. Rob

Check out my Youtube channel for more videos. I occasionally convert some of my old laserdiscs to digital and post on youtube. And the dealer training video for Comanche salesmen going up against the competition. And my old ringtone: Rob

Been awhile since I wondered into this area... Needs some updating. Had some restructuring at work, a leadership role was opened up, I applied and was promoted to Fleet Division Foreman. My co-worker did an internal transfer to another division, I brought in one of the good guys from another division that knew enough about cars, and hired external where a former manager of mine now works in my team. I just put the paperwork together to submit to council for a $160,000 plow truck. Same job, just with more paperwork and a/c time. And an office in an electrical room. Like Milton in Office Space. I love what I do, and the guys I work with. Pay could be a little better, but it could be worse. Rob I should update this again. I spent a year and a half as the fleet foreman under a superintendent that split time between streets and fleet. That guy didn't do anything with fleet because I was doing everything behind the scenes (Because he knew nothing about vehicles, and that was fine with me). That guy left and they let me run fleet as Interim. They saw the importance of having a dedicated fleet superintendent, so I applied and was promoted to super, and eliminated the foreman role. I oversee the same two guys I did before except now on salary, no longer have to come in to babysit plows in winter, and have the backing of my director to make the moves I need to. It's a good gig. Currently evaluating a switch to Peterbilt from International (been problem ridden lately) and getting ready for leaf season. Rob

Sounds like you guys are both technology buffs with newer-model phones. I don't know if you guys are using smart watches, but with my Gear S2 and my Note 7 I can set the watch to freak out if it loses connection with the phone. I would probably use it if I didn't occasionally leave my phone at my desk when I have to go out into the shop. It will still vibrate and let me know the phone disconnected when I get about 30 feet away, but it's just one little whirr. Another option is to use Tiles. After losing my super sweet Keyport Slide keychain, I invested in some Tiles for all my keys. They are basically bluetooth trackers that the phone checks up on. They will remember the last place the keys were if out of range, or let you know if the tile is close by. If the keys are close enough for the bluetooth, you can ring the keys. Vice versa, if you can't find your phone, you can press a button on your Tile to ring your phone, even if it was set to vibrate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXSsefBWKsw Rob

I'm sorry, but they lost any chance to be a trustworthy individual when they left the scene. I would file it with the police, call your insurance agent, and take them to court. They will only junk the truck if you let them take it. I had a guy mash in a cab corner years ago. The repairs exceeded the value of the truck so I negotiated the value, took a check, and kept a clean titled vehicle. The only thing you would be out is the deductible until court or the insurance agency got it out of your deadbeat neighbors. Rob

With the passing of August comes the cool, crispness of September. Speaking of cool and crisp... We have a member and a truck that fit the bill. It's always nice to see someone take something that may have been seen as an eye sore and truly turn it into their own. 4.0forlife's '88 Olympic Pioneer YEAR/MODEL ● 88 jeep comanche pioneer ( Olympic edition ) ENGINE/PERFORMANCE ● 4.0 renix mostly stock. msd coil and 4 hole injectors DRIVETRAIN ● 4.0. ax15 trans. np231 t-case with advanced adapters sye. adams drive shaft. hp dana 30 front, dana 44 rear with 4.10 gears. CC is Awesome!... Why Do You Think So? ● ive gotten so much help from old thread to questions that i had to ask about my own problems that baffle me. in the end these are some of the best guys and girls ive meet that all share the same passion of the comanche Man oh man. Just another good looking truck and build. While it may have started out kind of rough, with the PO leaving half brewed ideas (like a switch for the reverse lights) you combed through the junk and found a solid truck. The steps you took to clean it up, and that bang up job doing the garage paint turned out fantastic. Enjoy the spotlight! -Rob  Click here to view the article

I know right, gomorgo must have $5 or $6 into the tarp and strap! (Loads of sarcasm) Rob ;)

Blast from the past campers. As Neohic takes time to move across country I am back as your temporary announcer. With all the modded trucks here we have an appreciation for the trucks that survived the lift kits and the fender chops. Don't get me wrong, we all love the knobby-tired trucks, wheelers, and interesting builds, but a nicely done survivor with some back story can be just as interesting as the warrior trail rig. I am honored this month to bring you a member who rescued a 3/92 build 1992 MJ and made a super nice driver with all the right touches. 1987comanche's 1992 Sport YEAR/MODEL ● 1992 SWB MJ (3/92 Build, 7/3/92 in service date)/Born as 2WD Sport (package 25C) with KE8 stripe delete ENGINE/PERFORMANCE ● Stock 4.0 HO “Power-Tech” Inline 6/ 190HP new. ??? Converted to 4WD using external slave AX-15 from a ‘94XJ, rebuilt non-ABS, High pinion, large U joint D30 from a ’96 XJ (everything new except the carrier/gears), ’96 external slip yoke 231J transfer case with stock XJ front D/S, HD Fox body Mustang rear D/S shortened & rebalanced. New side & spider gears in the D35 (still open). COOLING ● Stock open system with new radiator, water pump, hoses, etc. Mechanical fan and shroud are from a 4.0 Renix XJ, aux electric fan from a ’93 XJ. ELECTRICAL/IGNITION ● Stock HO with Autolite Platinum plugs, HD cap & rotor SUSPENSION/STEERING ● New Moog ball joints, wheel bearings, new UCA/LCA bushings in stock stamped arms. Stock height with 2WD front springs, 26MM front sway bar from ’96 XJ. Stock 14:1 box (12.7:1 ZJ box waiting to go in) INTERIOR ● HO XJ full gauge cluster with XJ Waggy wood grain bezel, 2 Dr XJ sport buckets on MJ brackets, XJ full console with Pontiac Aztek cup holder, recovered ’86 MJ headliner (was black & full of spiders, now clean with fresh gray fabric), Eliminator carpeted panel under the rear window, ’89 MJ seat belts, XJ Laredo door panels, Pioneer CD/MP3 player, ’90 Suburban steering wheel (not Jeep but also not oozing black goo), BRAKES ● Stock disc/drum with ’96 XJ dual diaphragm booster, ’97 ZJ master cylinder, and ceramic pads LIGHTING ● Stock with Sylvania Halogens EXTERIOR ● ’93 XJ Sport pass fender, header panel, bumper, brackets, fixed outside mirrors from a ’96 XJ Classic, Factory SWB “Comanche” bedliner (courtesy of OneOverZero), stainless vent visors. Rust free southern body. WHEELS/TIRES ● BFG Long Trail T/A tires on factory 15 X 7 Jeep alloy rims, replaced donut spare tire with matching alloy rim MISCELLANEOUS ● I named her Georgia as I bought her just outside of Atlanta. The PO had slid into a guard rail and she was in rough shape when I found her. I’d never towed anything before the day I brought her home on a U-Haul trailer but it seemed like the perfect reason to give it a try. She’s my third MJ: I had an ’87 4 cyl 2WD and a ’90 6 cyl 4WD. Remember That One Time?... Tell Us Your Best MJ Story ● After completing my 4WD conversion I was eager to test Georgia out in the snow. I got my wish when we had a few inches of unexpected snow while I was at work. I left work, things were going fine, and I was quite pleased with the conversion…until I got about 2 miles down the road. The truck started bucking, surging, and making a horrific grinding, groaning racket. I pulled over and was expecting to find a mess under the truck but everything looked ok. I tried 4WD 2 more times and she’d do it as soon as I hit 30mph. I had a challenging ride home in 2WD on hilly terrain with no weight in the bed. I eventually figured out the mom & pop junkyard that pulled the front axle, T-case, and driveshafts had bent the T-case shift linkage and shift handle. It wasn’t obvious until I put the replacement linkage and handle side by side. CC is Awesome!... Why Do You Think So? ● There are tons of great ideas on CC that I’ve harvested for use on my MJs over the years. People are willing to help and aren’t condescending. If you ask an intelligent question you will receive an intelligent answer. The beginning: Glamour shot: 4WD conversion parts: Same axle after rebuilding it: Undergoing transplant: I like the Cherokee reservation too I like this thing a lot. You saw the potential in a neglected MJ that needed a bit of life support and sweat equity. You are building it into the perfect weekend warrior with every repair or upgrade you make, keeping it tastefully in line with what a MJ should have been from the factory. Nothing overdone, just a clean truck that can turnkey drive across the country and lap up the miles. The old man may have been around the block a time or two, but he's seeing new life thanks to your time and efforts. Allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your MJOTM honor. - Rob  Click here to view the article

Going to look at a 99 XJ to buy not running.
Automan2164 replied to rustybottoms88's topic in The Pub
Agreed. That wasn't a mechanic, that was a hack. If it keeps blowing fuel pump fuses, it has a short in the circuit. I would put all the old parts (like the pcm) back in it and start with the original components. For all you know in his parts shotgun world title attempt he put in bad parts and complicated things. Offer $500. -

We always have the CC club FB page guys... We can provide the same service level over there as we have always counted on here... That makes us more visible to the outside world too... Sharing and whatnot with the commonfolk. Rob -
Cummins B3.3 Powered Mj Build!

I know it's a long shot, but the diesel XJ/MJ's have a small intercooler that mounts on the passenger front. Rob- 299 replies

Big big fan of "The Works" toilet cleaner here... I keep a bottle or two in the garage just for de-rusting parts... Last pics I have are some XJ hitch nut strips I did. Before: Soaking (You can see the rust coming off into the cookie sheet): And the final product before paint (already flash rusting): I love the works because you can get it anywhere, and it's DIRT CHEAP. As a plus, you can still use it to clean the throne when your done, or just keep reusing it like I do for rusty stuff. Rob

I replaced the dash on the diesel with one from a Cherokee. I gently put a thin flathead screwdriver under the edge of the tag, and the rivets popped out like undoing a button. Same for the old VIN, and putting the diesel VIN into the Cherokee dash. Just snapped in and out like a button. Rob

I have a non-working deck that would be good for experimentation. Rob

What radio are you working with? I have an AMC cassette in the diesel MJ and this would be a great addition. Rob

I'd get the longer bars. While I think that will get you by for now, I'd like to see some wiggle room on either side. Rob
