  1. Does the back of the cab have any cracks originating from the corners of the window? Awhile back, we had a handful of members who noticed some stress cracks back there... Rob
  2. First time dealing with him, but it was very pain free and smooth. Hardest part was converting pounds to dollars so I knew what I was spending... And remembering to hit the pounds button on the paypal. Good guy. Rob
  3. Sorry, borrowed a truck, picked up a new door for the house yesterday, I forgot to hop on here and do this. The store for the seller of the one Don found for me was this: http://www.ebay.com/...=&_trksid=p3686 Rob
  4. Someone on another forum had just put one in, and I asked him where he picked it up. He had got his from jeepsareus, but had to pay the $100 for it. I had looked on eBay to no avail... I tried all sorts of searches and keywords too. I sent Don a message since he's pretty good at helping find the weird items. He turned one up on eBay I had missed, and found the jeepsareus one also. Even was able to tell me the PN for the dealer part. I paid a bit more than I wanted for the one on eBay, but it was still less than the $100, and it came with the switches in the pic. When I get home, I can send you the seller info for the one Don found for me. They seem to be a dismantler in the UK. Rob
  5. It's actually a factory option with frame tie-ins for strength. If you keep an eye out on CL or here, they will pop up from time to time for about $100-150. Rob
  6. Jim, it's out of an XJ. Either a domestic XJ in police trim with fogs would have it, or a euro spec XJ with headlight leveling function. Both need the 4th slot for the extra switch. Fogs Rear Defrost Rear Wiper And either: Ext Idle (Up idle switch for US police spec Cherokee's) Headlight Leveling (Euro spec option) Rob
  7. Hornbrod pointed me to a set of those straight from the UK. I just couldn't afford to do the $100 Jeepsrus new one... I'm too cheap. The one Don had found for me even came with all the switches, including the headlight leveling switch. Rob
  8. How long does it take you to wiggle into that? If you had to guess how many times you went back and fourth could you put a number on it? Rob
  9. Anything is possible. With the right mindset, and some knowledge, you can do anything. I am just speaking from experience. When I was back in high school, one of these came up on eBay too. I wanted it soooo soooo bad. After having one, I realize that if I would have gotten it when I was young, I'd have been in big trouble. Having opsled so close helped me tremendously. He's had one for 10+ years, as well as had his apart past the head a few times. Without him, I would have been $3600 deep in an injection pump repair. I guess what I am saying is that for a high school car, you can't beat a regular old MJ. 4.0/2.5L, indestructible, and if you manage to break something, parts are cheap and plentiful. It was a perfect high school truck for myself. Rob
  10. 0. I had the opportunity to pick up some other rare MJ stuff, but I actually had to turn it down. I wish I could collect them all, but I just don't have the funds. I really want to finish The Farmer. Plus, I wouldn't trust many under the hood, especially someone I don't know. Rebuilt engine and a vehicle sale bring up some red-flag-arinos. Rob
  11. Boot - Don't get it unless you have a full understanding of what you are getting into. I am in waaaay deeper than I would want to be. This has to be the 3rd or so time it's been on eBay. Same price every time, same pics, same owner. It is an '87, as it was still an option. 2WD through. I have to say that the whole 'engine rebuild' and such makes me a bit nervous. I would be asking lots and lots of questions before spending any money. Rob
  12. That quick? I tried a test spot of some black rustoleum, you can see it on the drivers inner fender by the door hinge... It seemed to stick decent, figured a few cans of that would make for a painless topcoat. Rob
  13. The POR15 is some strange stuff. It dries to almost a mirror gloss. Rob
  14. I don't have any huge updates here so much as I have some more pics. With the holiday, Bill was out of town, but his wife sent me the pics from when we were working on the doors/fenders. I also got a chance to move the truck out into the sunlight for the first time since doing the frame. Getting dusty already... Shouldn't have been grinding on the XJ hitch with the garage door open. Rob
  15. Time for an update. I got a screaming serpentine belt changed out, as well as knocking a few other things off my list. I found an Overhead console for sale on CL locally, and it was perfect. The guy not only had the console, but had a template cut from a headliner to help put the new holes in for the OHC, spare boards, a handful of keyless modules and a fob, as well as some tweeter panels from behind the mirror off a more equipped XJ. Even though I had bought this console, while looking for a hitch I found another and just couldn't pass it up. It turned out to be the cleaner of the two, but the buttons showed more wear. I took the two and made one good one. I might do a write up somewhere, since all the ones I found were less than stellar on the install. The hitch was in decent shape, and it was a Mopar hitch with the 7 pin RV style plug. I got all the wiring out and clipped off all connectors from the Jeep side. I was contemplating just breaking off all the bolts and replacing the nut strip with a JCR one, so without even trying when I got there, I just tried tightening until they snapped. The first one wasn't doing it, so I tried removing it. It came out with a cheater bar and a 1/2" ratchet. The rest were simple. The passenger side had two of the dumbest studs with an 8mm head, which promptly stripped. I also needed more head room, so out came the BFH. I ended up locking a vice grip on it with a 2 foot cheater on that, turning it a quarter turn at a time. Sucked, because it was one of those all-your-might-both-hands-until-it-hurts-type clamping action. I didn't have it in me to do the second, so I beat the stud up into the frame with the strip, then made an access hole with my BFH. The torch made short work of the stud at home. After some grinding, priming and painting, the hitch and the nut strips were back in good form. Toilet cleaner rust bath first for the strips. Keep them from turning into rust flakes... Finished hitch and wiring. I'm still soaking the bumper bolts and all the hardware on mine to get everything apart, might tackle the hitch install next weekend. I also managed to get some new tweeters for the new bezels. I found something that worked at the local car audio shop. In true cheapskate form, once the car audio guy told me the price, I haggled him down. Doesn't hurt to ask. Stock tweeters are tiny, with a built in crossover. The new speakers have a crossover box to go inline to keep them happy. All the tweeter wiring is already in the doors from factory, I just need to pull it out from behind the panel. All I have for now. I can't get over how nice it is to be driving an XJ again. Rob
  16. I hate you Texans... This was an engine donor for another Jeep. ENGINE DONOR. That thing would be a museum piece up here in the rust belt. Rob :fs2:
  17. I must be the odd man out here. I was always raised with all kinds of pets and animals around. My mom always raised and helped hurt wild animals, and the like. A few years ago, I had caught a bunch of baby mice in the garage falling out of my old squad car. The girlfriend and I ended up collecting them up, and feeding them a few times daily with kitten milk formula soaked into bread pieces. We had a few not make it, but the 3 that survived were fat, happy, and made great pets. The next year, the wild mice ended up getting into the house. After a month or so of live traps and carrying them out to the end of the subdivision, we couldn't contain them. I went the quick and instant route with the wire traps. I just couldn't do the bucket route. Sort of cruel and unusual drowning to death. The wire traps would be my go to. Rob
  18. Doesn't look half bad for sprucing up a work truck. Rob
  19. That sits up a bit in the rear... What rear end is in it? Rob
  20. Mine works fine. Newest version of FF, just updated last night. Rob
  21. Exactly what I was thinking. Rob
  22. This is it. Jay is more of a weird/unusual classic guy. He likes the really nice classics, or the weird stuff. I know Conan O'Brien has talked about Jay picking him up in a steam powered car. Jay had said in a previous episode that GM gave him a Hummer just so he could be seen in it, but won't drive it because it's just another Hummer. This thing smells of product placement for Red Jacket Firearms and Discovery... I know he took a paycut to keep his staff on the bankroll, maybe he's trying to get some funds on the side. Rob
  23. I stand corrected. Rob
  24. Anyone heard from him lately? Rob
  25. You have to put in a whole new striker style. Rob
