Hey, don't make fun of my High School! (Anacoco, LA btw)
-
Yeah, they're extremely dangerous and most people don't realize exactly how hot a wild land fire can get and how fast they travel.

Hey I need a tub for my 3A! Everything is done except for the body work. I lack the gene for sheet metal in my DNA and I think I'd just make my original tub worse if I tried to fix it.

Yup that's a Manche. I lived in Morrison, CO for a year, and joined the "Inter-Canyon Volunteer Fire Department" when I lived there. I lived near a local tourist attraction called "Tiny Town". We worked with the Evergreen, Indian Hills, Centennial and all the other local fire departments daily. I know all those guys are out there battling that blaze as we speak. If you've ever traveled through the area you'd realize the place is "high and dry" and is essentially a piney woods tinderbox. After going through fire fighting training and living in an area of fallen pine straw, I was perpetually scared of a wild land fire. Its a very dangerous situation for anyone that lives on the "front slope" of CO. Over 400 homes have been lost so far and it really hurts to think about all the folks that have lost their homes in CO. I'd rather run into a localized urban building fire than try to contain a fast traveling wild land fire in that country. I am not overstating the fact that those people are experiencing a true worst case scenario of a wild land fire. Imagine a 1,600 degree blaze traveling at 30-40 mph, devouring everything. Its hell on Earth. Those people who have lost everything make me as a man, cry in condolence. I wish I was there fighting that fire right now.

ZJ sway bar upgrade question
Comanche County replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
96' to 98' is preferable. Be sure to get the rotational sway bar links also. They're much better than the straight stud XJ style. The straight stud style will eventually bend and break. The ZJ swivel links are better for longevity. -
Jim, you planning to put those new/old R&Ps in it? The Isuzu D44 isn't the same as a Regular 44. Internally, its its own animal among D44s. Different bearing sizes, R&Ps, everything is just a little different, but a bit on the beefier side. A regular D44 master install kit won't work. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=603807

Oh, I do it all the time, but I don't yell though, I'm like a subtle Gordon Ramsey. I just bluntly correct the person's behavior, and don't always curse. Whenever I see someone picking on someone else, bullying someone, making fun of disabled people, littering, stealing, trying to rip me off, Doing something stupid and dangerous that could hurt someone, etc. Not a bad guy at all, but I won't hesitate to jack someone up if they need it. Guess its just the crazy vet in me. sorry for the hijack.

Savannah here...

Yeah just pull the heads, its not too hard of a job. If they're looking bad, most likely they'd need a 3 angle job, valve seals and valve guides. The cost of that work would probably run you about 400 bucks. You could just find a 3.4 out of a mid 90's Camaro or Firebird cheaper then getting the heads rebuilt. Then just use the upper intake etc off the 2.8. See the below article. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Pro ... ect_XJ.htm

Its not bad but it reminds me of the Explorer Sport Trac trucks....they are kinda like a Pontiac Aztec, they rank high on the fugly scale. The Jeep is better though.

What do the plugs look like?

Here's a little tip for you fellas on JY Customer/Manager relations. When you find a nice rust free MJ in a yard, and plan to pull the box off of it and take half the frame to make a trailer, and while checking out you explain to the JY manager what you're planning to do, he agrees and states the MJ will be there for at least another month, but when you depart the out door, the JY desk monkey checks your tool bag and finds a two year old thermostat in the bottom of the bag and then claims that you have to pay $1.99 for said thermostat....do not (as I did) transform yourself into Gordon Ramsey and unleash your full repertoire of colorful words on a hapless 19 year old. Then after the manager, which you just had a pleasant conversation with about your MJ plans, agrees with the kid, do not insult his manhood and family tree and embarrass him in front of all his subordinates and the other 25 customers in the office. What will result is....you will link up with another CC buddy (me and Backdraft) and visit the yard again to pillage the previously mentioned MJ, but as you search the yard, you will find that the MJ will no longer be in complete form and has been reduced to bits of small pieces of metal and is currently in the hold of an ocean freighter on its way to China. The only good that came out of it was that I got to keep my old thermostat and refused to pay the 2 bucks. The bad is that a decent MJ got scrapped out of spite, because I couldn't keep my mouth shut because some dumb kid accused me of stealing. :grrrr:

In Texas you can shoot them.

Those are great Jeeping Trailers, especially if you're running 5x5.5" wheels. They're easy to turn into expedition rigs. Good to see it still has the original pintle hitch and the solid back. A lot have butchered tailgates. I'm always on the lookout for M416s, Bantams, Willys MBTs, Willys civi trailers and Ben Hurs. Here's a pic of a sweet set up, one day I'll build something like this:

Too bad I just moved to GA and brought my 20' trailer with me or I'd snag it. Abilene was only 70 miles from me back home, I checked the Abilene CL daily for over a year, as well as Fleabay and never saw this advertised before. Honestly, I don't think he'll get 2,500 for it. Abilene just isn't a good market for Jeeps, will most likely end up bubbafied and pulling deer lease duties till it dies. Maybe I ought to message him, I'm planning on going back home in a few weeks.

Air conditioning question.
Comanche County replied to mountainman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Every Jeep I've had with A/C cycled like that. Its all good as stated above. -
When was the switch to Gen II D44s? I believe the front is regardless a Gen I D44 with an 8.5" ring gear, the one we all know and love so well and should work for any older 44, while the rear could be a Gen II with an 8.8" ring gear. Anyway, one of them may be useful to you.... Here's a link from Dynatrac with some part numbers on it....hope it helps. http://www.dynatrac.com/pdfs/New_Gen_D4 ... _chart.pdf

Double Shear Track Bar
Comanche County replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Might be worth it to just find someone with a welder or go to a muffler shop, pop the axle end of the TB out and ask them to add a bit of material to the holes, then drill them out to stock size and reinstall everything. Should be an easy fix for wallowed out holes on the axle side since the stock bracket isn't very thick anyway. I think the bolt size is 7/16", I may be mistaken, could be metric but its about that size. -
I've got a short bed roll bar, just need those darn brackets. I guess I could fab something up but I'd prefer OEM.

Hey Rob, automan, can you have your guy get me pics of this?
Comanche County replied to shelbyluvv's topic in The Pub
Those side trim moldings look just like 95-96 XJ "Country" side trim pieces. -

Very Nice and well deserved! Congrats on MJOTM! -
The capability is available now to 3D scan any object. Then it simply becomes a digital file for future production. Sorry to hijack, but... You know, this type of stuff as well as the recent interest in the Thunder Chief makes me wonder if we'll ever hear from someone that actually worked on the MJ/XJ assembly line. I don't think we have any members with first-hand historical front line manufacturing knowledge or even board room engineering experience with the MJ? Has anyone who first drafted the MJ or worked on the assembling line been on here yet? If not, shame on them for not taking pride and nourishing the legacy they helped build.

Maybe I missed it, kinda looks like a 4.0 HO to me, but there's some sensors on the firewall I don't immediately recognize (no, not the MAP), but HOs didn't come with a closed system....so is that actually a 4.2 with the Mopar Fuel Injection system and closed Renix cooling system and renix/HO hybrid injection system? The sensor I'm looking at is the yellow capped thing,,,,its the port to interface the computer,,,,like for a MAC 2500, if you know what I'm referring to. Edit: BTW, Mr. Brandt, thank you very much!

On that note,,,one of us is going to have to make a mold of all MJ specific badges, rear flares, B panels, Street MJ add ons, everything else. Some of those hard to find things are going to be gone for good if someone doesn't do it in the next few years. Especially for the early badges, not many 86's around anymore. Anyone have access to a 3D printer?
