  1. Is the truck getting warm enough to trigger the fan? IIRC, the fan won't kick on until 220-230 degrees. If your truck has AC, turn it on and check. The fan should always operate with the AC on.
  2. Most MJ mirrors will snap into place, depending what kind you have. That spring should provide tension to hold the mirror in place once it is snapped in place.
  3. Depending on your location I would venture to guess that is a decent deal. A slightly rusted truck here in KS would be considered mint condition, even if it didn't run... At what point does an MJ have too much rust? When your wallet is empty and the truck isn't finished. It looks like you are thinking about the 97+ swap. Since your truck will pretty much be stripped, this is the opportune time to tackle the rust issues. You can click on my build in my sig to see what I had to deal with.
  4. I like them both, but prefer manual... Even when wheeling, unless the line requires a slower crawl speed than my TJ with 4:1 low and 5.13 gears. After driving my buddies rig with an auto, I would never build a wheeling rig with an auto.... Granted I am not a hard core crawler. I did decide to build my MJ with the AW4.
  5. Yes.....you will fit in perfectly here Welcome to the club.
  6. I used a spot weld cutter. It's like a mini hole saw. I used about 5 of them from harbor freight. I did buy a high dollar kit online, but the HF bit worked the best. Beware, this job is a royal pain and will test your patience. http://www.harborfreight.com/3-8-eighth ... 95343.html
  7. Uhhhh, probably not. Haha. 12/12 update: I was not able to pick up the order this past weekend to start shipping today. Due to some tech issues on my end, it has been tough to communicate with the print shop. I anticipate that I will be picking up the order at the end of this week to ship. Stay tuned. I am just as anxious as the next guy to get my hands on the shirt!
  8. You bet: Before After
  9. I can support getting rid of several stickies. It is my opinion that a sticky shouldn't last more than a month or two.
  10. Brake upgrades. There are a number of threads around about upgrading the brake system using other stock parts. Everything from running a new booster, prop valve and disk brakes in the back. Brakes are a rather boring upgrade as you can't see that you invested time in them. However, being able to stop when needed without blowing out a brake line is well worth it in my mind. If your truck doesn't have a full gauge cluster, locating one can be a good project/upgrade. Still have the CAD assembly on the front axle? Lock it in place for sure time 4wd when the need presents itself. Did you pull the carpet and inspect the floors? If not, you need to. Don't be surprised if there is a big hole under there in the floor pans. Not really an upgrade, but a safety issue. Change the fluids and put some miles on her
  11. I have tried a variety of drill attachments and die grinder attachments to polish a terrible set of Moabs I got a hold of... Sanding followed by aluminum polish has been the only satisfactory method I have tried. Get packs of sand paper, 200 through 2000 grit and get to work wet sanding... From this: To this (still in progress):
  12. That is very cool
  13. Started trying again: Image Not Found
  14. I think the point Jeepman is trying to make is that there is no perfect/best gear selection for all driving conditions. And yes, we have the ability to choose gears and tires so that the motor will run the same RPM as stock for any given speed. I ask, do you want it to run like it was stock with the extra wind drag due to a lift, tire weight and winch bumper attached to your rig? I think there are two slightly different arguments going on at the same time in this thread.
  15. I haven't tried to contact the printer since early this week to clear up a bit of confusion. When I was able to give them call tonight they were closed. I did leave a message and hope to get an ETA tomorrow. I just hope the order confusion earlier this week did not delay production. I expect to hear back tomorrow and will keep the club up to date. I am anxious to sport the new shirts! Hats... I will see about getting an order for those after all of the shirts have been taken care of.
  16. You really should pull the flares and cab vents. It's not hard. For treating the rust use some Naval Jelly. Link: http://www.rubiconownersforum.com/phpbb ... 38&t=49947 Your stock paint can be used as a base, no reason to take the whole truck down to bare metal and prime the whole thing. Painting is all about chemical reactions. You should ask the painter what type of primer you should use on the treated rusty areas.
  17. :jump: Nice one. I'm going to pass that one on.
  18. It sounds like going glass will cost much more up front. However, this also yields you the opportunity to protect what you want, how you want. What is easier for the home body guy to repair? Dents on body panels or cracked glass? I don't know, but I would pick whichever option you can do....let's face it, you will probably rest the body on more Moab slick rock.
  19. No laptop with Wifi? You could be the cool guy in class  He was doing that with me the other day, I just think he was referring to not being able to be on it in class. Rob Whenever I was in school, I used the laptop for much more than note taking :rotf: Rob, are you wheeling this evening?
  20. No laptop with Wifi? You could be the cool guy in class
  21. Drain plug? No. With the 5spd there is an opening to allow water and crud to exit. There is no transmission drain plug on Wrangler automatics.
  22. Buffalo B, I have a spare set of 4.0 motor mount frame horns from my 99 XJ donor. PM me if you would like em, you can have em for the cost of shipping. These BOLT to the frame.
  23. I did see the fel-pro seal. It was significantly cheaper than the two piece units. In reading the digital FSM, it indicates the 2.5 flywheel can be surfaced. I tried to compare that to the 4.0 section of the FSM but it was missing. Nonetheless, I am searching for confirmation. I am aware that the 4.0 flywheel cannot be surfaced. It would be a great time to upgrade to the external slave/bell, but I am trying to keep this truck within a budget.
  24. Huh, that's neat. I don't think I have ever visited that thread. I like the builds. :jump:
