Looking For A Couple Part Numbers
87Warrior replied to drcomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For the axle seals, pull the seal and use the microscopic part number on it to search for a replacement. I used the autozone website to cross reference seal and bearings for an old Ford D61 I have. -
The best tutorials I found/used. Part 1: Part 2: It is NOT a hard job, but it is slow.

Installed Bosch EV6 22b/hr 0280155784 fuel injectors (stock flow rate, but 4 hole), installed the AW4 with fresh seals and gasket, and the 242. Since the drivetrain was being built at my folks' place, it was time to bring it home. Obligatory before picture: Image Not Found Obligatory after picture: I also cleaned up and POR15'ed a rear brake line so I din't have to fight with a tube bender. No more salt trapping spring thing on this brake line! That rusty pile of dirt looking stuff to the left of the jackstand in the foreground is what came off of the brake line as I removed that spring thing. I will top coat the line in silver so any leaks that may arise are easy to spot.

I have a lwb liner you can have if you can figure out how to get it from Central Kansas. It came out of my 86.

Welcome to the Club DK! Can you determine what was swapped or altered to get that late model dash in there? Several of us here have done the full 97+ conversion, but I can only recall one who attempted to swap the dash with a custom gauge cluster. Be sure to start a thread in the MJ Tech forum with your tech questions. We are here to help you and your MJ!

Windshield Replacement
87Warrior replied to BootsNTrucks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had Interstate glass install a 99 XJ windshield/gasket in my 92 MJ. The folks in the office were a bit hesitant, but the install tech had no problems. If your glass company throws a fit, tell them it is a 98 XJ that you modified to look like a pickup... -
Why not open the differential and do math, (ring/pinion), to determine the gear ratio?

I work in and around the general public everyday in the utility field. I have come to the conclusion that people believe they are entitled, to anything and everything.

Doooooooo iiiiittttttttttt!

I am going on the 2nd year with a Fey bumper on my 86. It is a bit wider than factory and doesn't fit quite as snug to the body. It did save my tail light, but not the bed corner, in a slip-of-mind moment backing into a tree. Thus far, the only rust to show itself has been where the paint buckled where it bent when I backed into said tree. The MJ brackets work and mount using the factory locations on the rear frame. They are a bit undersized for my liking, but do their job. I would never trust towing with the Fey bumper.

That is saddening :( :yeah that:

If your route takes you through Junction City, KS along I70, let me know. Be glad to buy you a meal, since anybody who drives a lifted Jeep 2000 miles cross country is all right in my book.

'86 Comanche Purchasing Advice
87Warrior replied to Dillithium's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nothing wrong with a 2.5 MJ. They have a cult following here on CC filled with folks who are happy with them. My 86 2.5 will cruise down the highway at 75 mph with no problem. -
You must not forget to upgrade ALL of the primary battery cables if you get a higher output alternator. Kelly's WIP is a good place to look. I have never needed a dual battery set up running a Diehard Platinum (rebadged Odyssey) with my Superwinch EPi 9.0 and stock electrical system in my TJ. At idle I can do a full pull (100') with very little strain.
-
Now that is cutting it close!
-
I would not immediately spend big bucks on two batteries and a high output alternator. It sounds like you need to start with a quality battery and then see what your needs are. I run a Sears Diehard Platinum, but there are others out there. If you want/need more winching power after you bought one battery, at least you have already bought part of a $$$ system.

I like it, a lot. Bet she is a total blast to drive.

My New Love, 86 To 98 Build Up.

Way to save that poor MJ. Looks like it lived a hard life. I always like following other's 97+ conversions. -
Project "Moab Worthy" build.
87Warrior replied to RockinMJ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Congrats on getting her to start! Hearing them fire after so long so such a reward. Those Moabs looks nice. I don't spot any rock rash. -
Will This Valve Cover Work?
87Warrior replied to thejum57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Also, pick up a Felpro permadry gasket for a 98 2.5 Dakota. Much better than cork and requires no messy goo for a good seal. It is also designed for the aluminum cover ;) -
2006 Lj I-6 And Auto Tranny Into My '87 Mj?
87Warrior replied to Dougster123's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oil Pump Drive Gear Assembly, OPDGA, which is part of the camshaft sensor that replaced the dizzy. 05/06 are known to fail taking out the cam requiring a rebuild, and they are year specific. I love the 4.0. If I was in your shoes I would go for a '04 or older motor or a 5.3, if that is your cup of tea.- 5 replies

2006 Lj I-6 And Auto Tranny Into My '87 Mj?
87Warrior replied to Dougster123's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You would need the entire wire harness + PCM from the donor. The 42RLE is controlled via the PCM not a separate TCU like the AW4. I would not waste my time with a 05/06 4.0 with the troublesome camshaft position sensor. The 05/06 4.0 has already made its mark in history as being the least reliable 4.0 every produced.- 5 replies

Yep, that is the MAP. Check for the small vacuum fitting on the bottom.
