Rob, we have a similar taste in music. Although I do enjoy the 80's hair bands and early country as well. Whatever hick hop those urban cowboy wannabes pass as music these days just makes me shake my head.

Absolutely do not run a GL5 gear oil in the AX5/15 that is not 'safe for yellow metal'. I personally run 10-30 synthetic in my AX5 since GL3/4 oil is not available locally. It shifts like butter at 110 degrees and at -15 degrees. Redline MT90 would be my go to gear oil if I could remember to order it.

I couldn't leave well enough alone. I had to replace the front RE springs and OME shocks. It's a good deal I did, one OME shock had lost its fluid and did nothing. I find this picture interesting. On the left we have the new 3" Nth spring followed by my old 100k mile RE 3.5" spring. The spring on the end is a Moog V8 ZJ spring. The new coils only lifted the front 1/4". The new front shocks are Bilstein 5150 with 10" of travel with the Bilstein stem conversion. Everything back under the Jeep. Looks like it is about time for replacement brake lines. And the obligatory glam shot during the test drive. All I can say at this point is, 'WOW'. It drives like a completely different rig. I guess good shocks and springs DO make a big difference in ride quality.

3 1/2 (4 actually, buy only have 1/2 of one of them) These trucks are the only MJs I have owned. I currently own 7 Jeeps.

I ran the Yellow Stuff pads on the front of my TJ. There was a noticeable improvement in braking. Now I run Yellow Stuff pads with my Vanco brake it. I have never noticed any excesses wear on my rotors. I think the best stock brake upgrade is the Black Magic pads and Centric rotors. While I don't run them, my father does on his TJ which is built almost identical to mine. It stops pretty darn quick.

Quality Replacement Rocker Panels?
87Warrior replied to jhickman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, no MJ specific rockers, corners or pans are available. I don't care what the manufacture says. If they are for both an MJ and XJ, it is not a direct replacement. My body shop guy noticed the C2C rockers did not have the proper vertical taper under the door edge. While it is known that the MJ has more horizontal taper than an XJ, he was able to use another rocker from Auto Parts Network (which was a Sherman XJ part) with great success. He said it fit like factory. The cab corners were cut from a junked MJ in AR, -
Nothing worse in life than a rotten thief. Especially when you thought the thief was a friend, or at least an acquaintance. I have been purchasing Jeep parts via forums for 13 years now. My money has been stolen twice. 1st was for a sticker at Rubicon Owners forum in 2004 and the 2nd was for a power 97+ XJ mirror at NAXJA in 2008. Pretty insignificant, but those sour members left a permanent impression on me.

A local new story has started to spread around the net when an intoxicated driver attempts to launch, what appears to be a WK, off of a trailer parked along the Interstate....Dukes of Hazard style. Thank goodness the truck didn't have any occupants! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sDR2Kbiq24

You will like the NV3550. I never really liked the AX15 in my old YJ and much prefer the NV3550 in my TJ over any AX15 I have driven.

Wow, what an incredible opportunity to own an original piece of Jeep racing history. If I had the inkling to build a street truck, I would make sure I got one of these. The cost? Seems reasonable to me. All parts built by racing teams are pricey to start with. At the Shelby Heritage Center in Vegas a danged gas cap was $100 when I toured a few months back. Add the boat shops need to make $$$, Archers need to make $$$ and the very low demand for the part, the $450 price tag seems reasonable.

Cam Bolt On Lower Control Arm At Axle?
87Warrior replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not necessarily. The TJ uses cam bolts at the axle to adjust castor while the MJ uses shims at the frame end LCA mount. To bolt the TJ axle in the MJ, you will either need stock cam bolts or some of the aforementioned cam bolt eliminators. On a truck with stock or fixed control arms, I would opt to use the cam bolts since the MJ shim assembly on the LCA bracket is probably one solid chunk of rust. -
Cam Bolt On Lower Control Arm At Axle?
87Warrior replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No. TJ/XJ control arms are identical. -
- Fuel Line fell off (at the time of getting handover in the showroom!) - Loss of all climate controls (twice) - Rattling in drivers door - Clock couldn't keep the correct time (for 2 years!) - Bash plate hanging off - Turbo inlet manifold cracked (towtruck required) - Rain sensor failed - Major coolant leak inside vehicle (towtruck required) - External mirrors getting loose all the damn time (special screws so I can't even tighten them myself if I wanted to!) - Ignition failure (towtruck required) - Faulty seat belt tensioner - Heater exchange cracked behind dashboard - Starter motor intermittently running after the engine has started (has been replaced but keeps doing it) - Drivetrain Control error (towtruck required) - wipers intermittently coming on when driving in dry conditions - Rear strut leaking oil and had to be replaced Sounds like a typical Jeep :wrench: Except for that Turbo manifold crack. That just makes me jealous! :fs2:

Cam Bolt On Lower Control Arm At Axle?
87Warrior replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your control arms are adjustable. You will be adjusting the castor, not a shop like PepBoys. Get cam bolt eliminators. http://www.synergymfg.com/Synergy-Suspension-Jeep-TJ-XJ-ZJ-Cam-Bolt-Eliminator-Kit-p-30078.html#.U5e_uXJdXTk -

Dang, that one is reasonably priced. It's just so far away! -
I think the build recipe would be pretty simple, assuming you don't plan to be air born in a near stock truck. - Progressive rate coil springs with adjustable control arms and trackbar. - MT leaf springs - High quality shocks - Dana 44's with selectable lockers - 32's - Big brake kit - Steering upgrade Wait, this sounds like my build

I replaced the RE 3.5" rear coil springs with Nth LJ 3" coils. Getting it all put back together. Someday I would like to re-position the upper coil spring mount so the coils sit plumb. My Currie trackbar finally came in from Savvy. I don't think I'll every buy from Savvy again :fs2: The Jeep rides great and runs down the road better than it has in years. This picture was taken after I spent 3 hours on the Interstate at 75mph. To follow up the rear suspension work, I would like to replace the front coils with Nth springs and ditch the OME shocks that have 100K miles on them with new Bilsteins.

The only benefit of running higher octane fuel in our 4.0 is the lack of ethanol.

Transmission Swap Issues??? Cps??????
87Warrior replied to Katzer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I assume the donor rig was carb'ed. You will need a bell housing with CPS provisions. -
I have a nasty habit of hitting the brakes when I drive an auto. I call it 'left foot syndrome'. I hope to get over that when my '92 hits the road sporting an AW4

Since I am one of the young bucks here, I don't have many years behind my marriage. But I do know that feeling and thank God everyday for the time we have together. Glad it was only a scare!
