Hooks On The Front Of An Mj?
yxmj replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I agree 100%......did it on an XJ first and now i would not even think of doing it any other way....The one for the Mj is sitting there just waiting for a spare minute to bolt it on....IMHO not only do you give yourself some frame re-enforcement but you leave open a world of easy add on's...beside a hitch mounted winch, there are bike carriers, cargo carriers, spare tire carriers, and what ever else you can think of or fab up that can easily be popped in when you are not useing the hitch for a tow point...way stronger and more versatile than hooks.. . :MJ 1: . -
There was a factory one close to that with the 4 X 4 on the door

Studs Or Bolts On Exhaust Manifold?
yxmj replied to snakedoc67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Studs and nuts You could use bolts.....it is just a guess but I think the stud nut configuration is just for ease of install...the intake has 2 dowel pins to line up with and the exhaust uses the end bolts. :dunno: -
16" Stock Wheels In 4.5". What Will Work?
yxmj replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought all TJ wheels were 15". I know the majority of them are. Most are 15 but Rubicon were 16. I think some of the last few years of Cherokee had 16" wheels too. last year of the XJ was 2001......15" -

Assortment Of Shocks And Stuff
yxmj replied to BootsNTrucks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The length of the coil is not as important as the thickness of the wire. I just put a 3" lift from Rusty's off road on my son's XJ.....when we pulled the factory spring out and compared it in height to the new spring it was only about 1.25" taller.....this had my son concerned until i pointed out the thickness of the factory coil was about the same as my little finger while the new coils were about as thick as my thumb. -
You could have a look at any shroud from for a 2.5 from a XJ, YJ or TJ The 2.5 shroud is different that the 4L

I personally think you would be ok with changing your tires. It would be easier and cheaper than a gear swap. The change would not be as dramatic. Just some KISS math.....225/70/R15 = a perfect world tire diameter of 27 3/8".....If you upped them to 235/75/R15 (PW diameter of 28 7/8”) an increase of 5.2% While changing the gearing from 3.54 to 3.07 would be an increase of 13.3%. IMHO it would be way cheaper and easier to find a set of 235/75/R15’s (maybe a buddy has a set sitting around?) and try a 2 or 3 day trial run to see if it helps. Again the math will not work perfect but it should drop your RPM to from 3000 to around 2800 ( which IMHO sounds high.....should be around 2500 :dunno: ). Just My 2 cents

Ha.......you will marvel at our originality if you could guess the name of our $2 coin.....

It is a BA The way it is bolted together to split apart in the last pic is the give away If you look at pic 2 an AX (5 or 15) would have a +/- 3/4" plate right at the seam shown in the pic

Got a smoken deal on a 1998 XJ sport…..took it knowing it needed a head gasket. I have changed about half a dozen 4L head gaskets already...... and on all the biggest pain in the A** was the bottom intake/exhaust manifold bolts. I have a cherry picker so I was toying with the idea of leaving the intake/exhaust bolted up, unbolting the exhaust at the lower flange and pulling it as a whole. Any good…..bad ……or ugly ……suggestions or experiences?

I think you miss understood my post......it was $448 all in....that is the lift and the shipping combined not just the shipping.....the shipping was +/- $100 I will post again when it is done.....as of now the rear is on.....i did it solo in about 2 hours.....i installed the add a leaf without removing the top leaf from the xJ..... I was comparing my price including shipping shipped at $328 ( american) including a too high shipping cost of $68 versus your price including shipping at $448 ( American?). Your shipped price is $120 more than my shipped price. I know part of your $448 was probably duties but that $448 is about $180 (shipping plus duties??) more than the $265 price for the kit on the website. http://www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-suspension/jeep-suspension-lift-kits/xj-cherokee-84-01-jeep-suspension-lift-kits/rustys-xj-cherokee-3-add-a-leaf-kit.html Oh i see yes I paid a duty plus a small tax.....government needs a piece of the action too......any way got it all in by myself in about 5 hours...I have put lifts in before but usually had a helper ....so I came up with a couple of tricks that I will post in the DIY section......
