  1. most definitely a longbed... easiest way to tell check out the gas filler, i know mine isn't positioned where that one is, though i couldn't tell you where exactly it IS i know its not there. :brows: and i'm sure after a few brews she looks like a ripe beauty!
  2. get some bg 44k and run through it, you should get the oil additive and gas additive about 20 bucks a can stuff is amazing, we use it all the time at work. as far as cleaning th ethrottle body that is agood idea, and on an older vehicle its always beneficial to check the PCV or CCV system to make sure its ventilating well. you may be finding oil in your air filter if its clogged up real good (not sure if this problem is common on 97 models though due to changes in valve covers)
  3. basically it always spins, but its not always engaged enough to matter, the mechanical clutch is metal that expands and locks it in to spin at engine speed when hot enough, then when it cools off it should freewheel (but it'll still be spinning just because its not perfect) to check if its working it should be tougher to move by hand after getting it nice and hot (and shutting off the motor) than it is when its cool and (the motor is shut off) basically the same idea as an electric fan but you can't really see it operating. old cars had just belt driven fans with no clutch and they drained engine power, as well as causing it to take forever to warm up
  4. oh, i don't know, i borrowed my boss's (work at a volvo shop, he's owner/main tech and i'm the underling...so he's got all the tools you could need) but shooting everything under the sun and finding out their temps is about fun as hell. random here... exhaust tube #1 580ish degree's at idle. head, 260ish near exhaust 160s over near the plugs, thermostat housing, 190s-200s cold coke 37degrees laptop 90-105 degrees gf's... ok well you get the point. i shot it at everything :brows:
  5. well. i'm not sure who all remembers it, but i'm sure some of you do or have read where my jeep used to run hot like 260. to everyone who has an overheating problem! i spent tons of money working on this damn thing getting it to run cool. new thermostat, new 3-core radiator new waterpump new pressure bottle/cap new fan clutch, eventually dual e-fans. after all this the truck ran at perfect 210 all the time. come to find out, THE DAMN GAUGE READS 60 DEGREES HOT! i haven't had HEAT at all for the past 2 winters because the damn thing doesn't run at op. temp! my truck didn't pass emissions this summer because its running at 150ish TOPS. (@)^*(@$%(@   :headpop: so take it from me! before you condemn your jeep, buy a cheap laser-thermometer (the non touching kind you can shoot at anything) and verify the problem first! we found out of 3 jeeps every one of them had a gauge that was off at least 15~ degrees. so, in further news. i'm doing a super-stat tomorrow to insure proper temperature... and replacing that devil gauge.
  6. and check to be sure the bracket at the frame isn't loose.
  7. fired her up today, runs good! good temperature, no clicks, purrs like a kitten. and no exhaust leaks anymore.
  8. That was going to be my next guess at it. I can't imagine changing that CPS in a parking lot  KUDOS to you... they aren't THAT bad... a 1/4" drive wobble socket and a few foot long extension its a 20 minute job. (of course working above your head is always better than working on your back)
  9. we don't care what you do to your truck... its just sad to see a BEAUTIFUL one hacked to pieces. yours started out beat. so we don't give a $#!T ;) welcome to the club!
  10. this is goatman from naxja's thread. sortof a big triathalon for buggys check it out. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?p=243779259#post243779259
  11. 4.0Ls have plenty of torque to get over stuff, but gearing is your friend man... you don't want to rev more than you have to, unless you like POP KAPOW BANGs
  12. eee. lemme find the thread you want. i'll post you a link in a minute if someone else doesn't get you. the CAD is useless, they were eliminated in later models anyways cause it doesn't do anything positive. the thread is how to shim the shift fork for it into 4 wheel drive so it won't fail then plug the lines. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... cad+delete
  13. just a top end, damn thing ran great! just overheated and skipped (you can see why, cyl one has been steam cleaned by the headgasket!) so i took a spare 93 head down the the machine shop, had it decked, and a valve job done on it, painted it general lee orange and slapped it together, she'll run tomorrow, just need to change the oil and put on an filter adapter o-ring, then fill the coolant, and put the fans/serp. back on and she's good!
  14. me want me want me want arggh.
  15. ... ever heard of 4lo? then you don't have to rev it up ;) at least she's not broke!
  16. i had this happen to me on this club before, over an item made a deposit on the item and went to pick it up to find out it was not the item he described, at which point i was informed he had 'spent' my 100$ deposit. i drove the 210 miles back home. and ate the 55$ in gas. ended up taking 4-5 MONTHS and a dispute with paypal (annoying as piss) to get it worked out. i don't remmber if i ever called him out on it, but he did come back to sell the same item again and some other stuff a few months later and i let him know i hadn't forgotten. thankfully he hasn't showed up since. moral of this story... USE PAYPAL! (or some other way that you can get the money back if the poop hits the fan) oh yeah, and CALL HIS ARSE OUT!
  17. i'm going to assume 4.0L? i don't remember shouldn't be adjustable, but run off the o2 sensor, and a few others, if yuor truck is a renix try this website http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Engine/Basic_Sensors_Diagnostics.htm
  18. I would be too :brows: at lease he knows who his friends are when they can be counted on  g8 job so far oh, its my brother forgot that part :chillin:
  19. i don't know about that buggy man... heat from transmission on your @$$ and what happens when/if the t-case or a u-joint takes a dump and blows up 6 inches from yuor left arm? he can certainly bend some tube and weld good but idk about the design of the thing man. i've never built a buggy but i'd like something between myself and moving parts under stress
  20. we've been attacking his xj this past week after i got the machine shop. he started a thread on naxja for it... he has to work all the time so i've been doing most of it and he's jeeealous :brows: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?p=243777758#post243777758
  21. how did you end up with that many XJs and no 4.0Ls? or do you just favor the 2.5?
  22. needs more 'rectangulation' ;)
  23. i don't even like those things :dunno:
  24. not all states have fenders/mudflap laws so check with your state but seein how you're in michigan there's probly some stupid statute on it you can uber zip tie the taillights to the bumper lying flat, and figure soemthing out for the tank.
  25. This is a good option is you want to eliminate the diso. CW look though, he didn't eliminate the disconnect... he used a 95 YJ passenger side shaft and kept the disconnect and the 297 joint
