Just thought you guys might be interested seeing the damage
brdhntr replied to dancome433's topic in The Pub
well, i guess i can show you my boobs. i'm not sure why you want to see them, but if that's what you want. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: -
this sucks. looks like my wife just lost her job. we find out for sure tomorrow, but all her employee benefits appear to have been stopped. :fs1:
-
wow. on the plus side, the internals look like they were pretty clean, you know, before it blew up. :D

you know i was kidding about the chest drop method, right?    it hurts and makes it tuff to breath, especially when you break a few ribs doing it. i'd rather spend the money on a tranny jack (as you said you have) than on the doctor bills for broken ribs. my wife still gives me a hard time about the time i dropped a tranny on my chest. she thinks it's funny to remind me. :shake:

Floorboards - Finally removed my carpets
brdhntr replied to glundblad's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
those are in very good condition. i would sand (or sandblast)the metal and get all the rust off, then coat with por15. i would not just repaint it. you are bound to get more moisture in the future and just paining it will mean you'll be doing it again. por15 it and you should be done for good. you can also use roll on bedliner to keep things from getting bad in the future. use automotive carpet pad under the carpet. i say do it right an do it once. -
that's so sad. i think losing a pet is so hard. people just don't get how attached we get to our pets. hang in there, it never goes away, it just gets better.

i love the alfas. one of the first cars i worked on was an alfa. a pretty little red one. i helped a friends dad pull the motor. the car was only 3 years old. i was about 10. on a side bar, the first car i worked on (enough to understand) was on a '48 ford pick up. i helped my dad take the motor apart........................it never got put back together. :dunno:

that sucks. i hope you get a new one quick. this economy is hitting people hard. i am selling 2 trucks for a friend that owns a construction company. he just can't keep up with the amount they cost him and still make some money for his family. he feels it worse since he just built a new house before everything crashed. things are so bad it actually make me glad i'm on disability. it stinks but at least i don't have to worry about losing my job. :shake:

if you want to do it right, skip the adapter for the floor jack, they really stink. the tranny jack shown from harbor freight works great. i tries one of those adapters last summer on a chevy 700r4 tranny. i got so ticked off i threw it out of the way and just used the floor jack and some muscle. most tranny's i've done have just been with a floor jack, but when i've used a tranny jack, it makes the job much easier. but, the cheap way is to lay under the tranny and let it drop on your chest. :ack: then it doesn't get damaged at all. when it's on your chest, slowly slide out from under the truck. it's just that easy. been there, done that. :wall:

ok guys, torque and re-torque!!!! i check the torque on my wheels pretty regularly on all my vehicles. one year heading to deer camp 2 young girls passed us doing 80 or so. about 100 yards in front of us, the right front wheel flew off the car. we were lucky no to hit them, but they were lucky they weren't killed. i jumped out right away to check on them. they were fine. while we were waiting for the cops, the driver told me she had just had the brakes done the other day and showed me the bill. i was quick to point out the sentence that said "wheels lug nuts must be re-torqued within 100 miles". i've always torued my lugs on a pretty regular basis. after that, i check very often. i'd like to think all of my wheels on the vehicle when i drive. :D :D :D :D

i'm a dog guy. i'm very active in 2 hunting dog clubs (you've probably heard me talk about being on the tractor at the club alot). i train dogs, i hunt with them, and i have alot. the best dog i have ever had was not a hunter or a purebred. he was a mutt. he was my best friend for 18 years. he went wheeling with me, skiing, running, mountain biking, you name it. so i don't think you need an expensive pure bred dog (though i have several of those). look at some and see if any hit your personality, not your heart strings like any puppy will do, but fit your personality and that of your family's. if you don't hunt, or show dogs, there's no reason to be picky about breeds and breeding. go see the pups and sit with them a while. do it often and it will seam like a puppy will just pick you. we just had a litter of lab/cocker cross pups (spanadors) that have been great pups. seriously, if you wanted one, i would be happy to give you the last one we have. we've had 2 litters with the parents and everyone that has one of our pups has been thrilled. we kept 1 from the first litter for one of our daughters. the one we have left is a 15 week old that went to a great family. unfortunately, the mother ended up being alergic. rather than let the pup go to just anyone, we took him back. so now we are re-homing a puppy. if you wanted him, i would give him to you free after we talked a bit to make sure your family is a good deal for the puppy (i'm sure there wouldn't be a problem). when you decide you want a dog, start looking and check out lots of puppies. don't bring the kids along to look at all of them because puppies and kids, well it's tuff to leave without a puppy once the kids have seen them. sit on the floor with the puppies and you'll find one that just clicks with you. after 20 minutes, that one puppy will stand out for you. it doesn't matter what breed, it's the individual dog that matters. good luck. :D

yep, the mj is an mj. it's cool to see.

:agree: that's a very good point. anything to meet the new mpg standards.

i've always been told down, but saw a mythbuster rerun that said up is the way to go. f course covered does best, but i'm wondering what real world experience you guys have had with the mj. in all the fullsize trucks i've driven, it didn't seam to matter, but i rarely travel with an empty bed. i haven't done much road travel with the mj yet so i haven't figured it out yet. just curious. :dunno:

my wife picked a movie out of the $5 bin at walmart last night. it's called sahara. kind of a raiders of the lost arc type thing. it's pretty good, especially since there are jeeps all over in it. there's even some scenes with a nice mj. glad i own it now so i can see the jeeps anytime i want. it was worth the $5.

i think they're just 2 hands. 1 on each. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: uh oh, here comes the wife....................later!

messed up the ligaments so now i have an imobalizer on and am supposed to be on crutches. won't be working on the mj for a while now. :(

12' snow drifts, all roads closed, no school, what a storm. the mj is still under a snowdrift on the driveway. i'll dig it out this weekend. storms can be fun, but the clean up stinks. :(

How to polish or clean up factory aluminum wheels?
brdhntr replied to sinkrun's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
there are many ways to clean them up. it all depends on your plans for them. if you just want them clean and have no intent to re-coat them, oven cleaner works well. the acid works great but does dull or remove any finish there is. if it doesn't remove the finish, you'll get a clean look but the finish will have a slight white haze on it. if you do want to re-finish the, there are several excellent options. aircraft stripper will remove the paint/clearcoat that is already on them. this chemical is very strong and needs to be monitored, then hosed off when you feel they are done. it may take a couple treatments to get the finished product. when you're done with that step, you'll want to lightly ruff up the surface, then wipe it down with some acetone or alcohol. then paint as you like. if i'm painting wheels (even re-coating aluminum wheels), i prefer to blast them. you can bead blast or soda blast them at a low pressure so it doesn't dig in too far. then wipe them down with acetone or alcohol. then spray them as you like. if the finish is not in too bad a shape, just clean it well with a scotchbrite pad and re-coat them. if they are not coated, polishing them with a premium aluminum polish and a small pad on a drill, or alot of elbow grease, will clean them up nice and make them shine. if you want fast and easy, clean them with your choice of cleaners, scotchbrite the surface and spray paint it what ever color you want. keep an extra can or two around in case you need to cover scratches later. -
yep. i carry plenty of stuff in both my trucks. you never know. when it does happen, i'm thankful for it. i just pointed it out because it sucked to come out from working the sportsman's show for the dog club, with my dog, at 9:30 at night, to find a flat. it just sucked. :dunno:

i disagree. it sounds like a 2.5 with a throttle body spacer, header,3" exhaust, cold air intake, and some minor tuning. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: so that tells me i can make my little 4banger like that. yipee!!
