i don't know, something about a hunting breed laying around with chickens just doesn't seem right.

well he is looking at the 870 express, not a wingmaster. the express is actually going to be a little more durable as far as the action and barrel than a 500. the 500 has a shiny, smooth blueing on it. the 870 has a matte black textured finish on it. the price is more comparable to the 500 as well. the wingmaster is a much higher end gun. :smart: if he does want to hack it up, the 870 has more possibilities then the 500 or 835. these options can be found much sheaper for an 870 than a mossberg as well since the 870 is so popular. it would be pretty cheap to mess around with an 870.

that's very cool! i have a tool chest from my grandpa that is very early sears craftsman. i display it on a cool little display with an old tire and air hose outside my garage. i've thought about redoing it, but i just can't get myself to change it from the way he left it. i've also got some of his tools including a very old craftsman circular saw that still works. all his tools are in mint condition because he felt you spend money on it once and make it last forever. i really don't use them, they're more of a keepsake. every now and then i use something just in case old grandpa is watching from up there. he'd kick my but if i were just letting them sit! :rotf:

the blade i was refering to is just a plow blade for snow plowing or leveling dirt, etc. this is an ag tractor not a heavy equiptment type. it does not have a bucket.

i have and train several dogs. one in my current collection of dogs is my 6 yeard old chocolate lab, jake. he's a great dog.

the 870 without a dought. it's been around forever and has been one of the most popular and most dependable guns ever offered. the 500 and 835 are good guns, but the 870 is far more popular and dependable. you will also find more accessories for the 870 as well.

that is indeed sweet!    i love the older bikes and am looking for one. the cb900f's are great looking bikes. i want to get an older one to restore and ride it to both coasts. might not be this year, but i'll keep hoping.

ok, first off, i didn't have a camera with me so i didn't get any pic's. today at the dog club i was bladeing the road to get rid of the ruts and help it dry out. i decided to take the blade and run through some of the drainage ditches. i've been through all of them several times this year already. well i got to the deepest one and was moving right along as usual. then the blade hit something that stopped the tractor instantly and made the tires start spinning. before i knew it i was throwing mud everywhere and not moving an inch. i was stuck. to make things worse, i was in about 2' of water. i had waterproof boots on, but they aren't 2' high. so into the cold muddy water. i went and got the mj to pull it out. there was no dry ground so i found the least wet spot. i hooked up the tow rope and gave it a yank. 20 minutes latter the mj was buried in the mud and not moving. i considered it stuck and called my wife for back up. while waiting for the cavalry, i got back in and cranked the stereo to chill a bit. i guess ac/dc gave me momentum. i started to get it moving and got it out under it's own power. so i parked it on dry ground and admired the mud all over it. the wife and kids showed up with the suburban and i decided i would pull the tractor from behind. i stretched out all the tow rope i had but the front end was still at the edge of the water. i gave it a yank and moved the tractor a bit. it just wasn't enough to do anything. the suburban sank as it was just sitting there. so the suburban was now buried. my wife was not very happy with me. so i went and got the jeep. i tried pulling the sub backwards and things just got worse. so i swung around and hooked the jeep to the front. a couple good tugs and i had it moving. both trucks were on dry ground and unstuck. that made for a much happier wife. so after all this i decided to call it quits and leave the tractor sit for now. i'll go back tomorrow and use chains to get the vehicle to drier ground and pull it out. i have a buddy set up to come help. i will be wearing waders tomorrow. so if i would have given up on the jeep, it may still be there. if i would've given up on the suburban, well, the wife wouldn't be talking to me. i did give up on the tractor though. so at what point do you consider your vehicle stuck? after getting 2 other rigs stuck? or never give up? did ac/dc really get the jeep unstuck?

man, that's gonna leave a smile on my face all day!

Surface Prep, Acetone or Denatured Alcohol?
brdhntr replied to mknherhappy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i use dawn dishsoap and hot water to strip the wax and oils from the surface. then i follow with acetone. it's true that you can tell if you've removed the oils and wax by running water over the surface. if the water "sheets" off, you removed everything. if there is any beading, you need to redo everything. if you want to scuff the surface, use a stiff brush or (better) steel wool to scrub the surface with the dawn. this kills 2 birds with 1 stone. it's quick, cheap, and easy. -
let them soak in coke for a couple days then rub them with steel wool and coke. then wipe them dry. i don't think you'll find anything that will just remove the rust. i think you'll need to do some scrubbing with steel wool. there are a few cleaners used for guns that may work as well. some are made specifically for removing rust.

thanks for the good words guys. i try to help however i can. it's rewarding knowing i'm part of something like that. this weekend everything is going to be on hold for easter. i'll go out if they need me but they are really letting everyone relax a bit this weekend. the firefighters have just announced they are going to close up their flood operations for the weekend in a few minutes. good for them, they deserve a rest. things will start back up on monday and go strong next week. it sounds like the bad part is going to hit the end of next week. where i was today it was sad. there were many houses that were lost in the area. i really felt for a very young couple that just bought their first house last fall and now have had to abandon it. they will have to gut it and do alot of work before they can live in it again. they're probably 24-25 years old. just sad. so the jeep got good and muddy so far today. it's blocked traffic and been parked in areas no other vehicle is allowed. i'm using the hood as an office and command center, it's pretty cool. i forgot my camera though. it will be back out next week so i'll take pic's then. i need some for my scrapbook, right. this has to be documented. i got alot of people stopping and talking to me about it. 1 guy said he's wanted one since they came out but has never found one when he has the money. him and his son have 3 xj's they've built up so we chatted a bit. another guy thought it was a pretty cool city vehicle. i quickly corrected him that it's my personal rig. it should get credit for what it's doing, right. ;) i'll post latter when i get home if i have a chance. i'm not sure when that will be.

yah i know. the bummer is that my problem isn't really effected by what i eat, it's a cellular thing in the lining of the arteries. so i can only have a cheeseburger every now and then, but it doesn't help my situation, well, yet. i don't drink regular pop anymore and no caffeine. i usually have just water. it's been 7 years since i've had a good old mountain dew. on a very rare occasion i have a small glass bottle of good old coke, but that's only like every couple years or so. i eat mostly venison, elk, buffalo meat instead of beef and pheasant, grouse, partridge, duck, and goose instead of chicken. i don't drink alcohol really, i might have a drink once a year if that. i quit alot of things cold turkey and have never looked back. there are some bad things i still have now and then as a treat. i just wish giving everything up would help me sooner than later if ever (cardiac wise). truth is i'll end up dieing of my disease long before a "regular" blockage could get me. but for now, i'm feeling pretty good and can do more now than i could 4 months ago. that's all good!

today and tonight i helped by sending buses with volunteers back and forth. tomorrow i will be site manager at a sandbagging site. cool thing is i'll be useing the mj as the "base" so the mj will be front and center of the flood fight. i'll have to get some pic's if i get a chance. it's not a priority since i don't know when i'll get home tonight and tomorrow. mj's already full of the paperwork i need and salvation army water bottles and treats. it's gona be a long day, but working out of the jeep will be great. it'll be the most time i've spent with it.

no stress test this trip. it was alot of blood work and ekg, and this very specialized test. the special one is cool because i was on the study for it in 02 that got it approved by the fda. anyway, it measures the resistance in the heart and arteries. on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best, and 1 being, well, let's just say ...bad. i measured a 1.58 in january. yesterday i measured a 1.77. that means that the new drug they added in jan has gotten things to level off. it was getting much worse, so this is great news. this also means i feel better so i can work on my project vehicles and train my dogs. cool.

so, my 3rd trip to mayo clinic for the '09 year so far. it's a 5 hour drive from here, but i don't usually complain because it's the only choice for what i've got. so i had appointments today. i decided i would just make a day trip of it to save on hotels, food, and to save my wife from being alone with the kids for too long. so i spent 10 1/2 hours in the car, and 2 hours having tests done on my heart. i left at a little after 4 am. i'm a bit tired. good news is my hearts still ticking. bad news is, it's still no good. :headpop: hey, i got to spend 10 hours by myself and burn through $70 in gas. i did try a new burger joint i've been wanting to try. of course, i'm supposed to stay away from burger joints. :shake: i'm going to bed. i might sleep through tomorrow. :D

yep. with the new tires, one's planned already. i thought i'd get things done and do a 4 wheel on it (rather, have it done). -
i rarely have anyone work on my vehicles, but i had some work done on my audi years ago and the guy left a socket set and breaker bar in it. since it was snap on stuff, i brought it back to him. he filled my car with gas as a thank you. i have found tons of tools around in vehicles i've bought. the best was on a non-running chevy pick up that was a parts vehicle. the guy had removed the parts he wanted before i bought it to totally part it out. the rug had to be trailered. when i got it off the trailer and in the driveway, a air impact wrench fell on the ground. a nice cp that looked nearly new. i have no idea where it was. when i started parting it, i found tools all over the place. i even found a sawzall behind the seat. i kept the stuff, but gave him a week to call me to say he was missing it. he didn't so i still have the tools. best part, i paid $100 for the truck. :D

nice. it's funny how it will seam so big as you build it, but so small once you start putting stuff in it. if we are going to live in this house more than another year or so, i will be tearing down the current garage and building another one. i hope to add 20' to the length and about 10' to the height. i want a front stall with a hoist. the other 3 or so stall will have a loft above them so i have a cool place to hang out. i think it would be cool hanging around in the loft while there is a vehicle on the hoist next to it. i am trying to get the city to let me run a sepperate electric to the garage. so far they have said no. if i build the new one, i'm going to list the loft as a seperate living quarters with an individual address. until then, i'll just keep annoying the city until they let me. :headpop:

mine only has 96000. not bad for an 87. i have enough other vehicles that most don't get much, except the suburban. the cj has 74000, the audi now has 156000, and the suburban has 220000. i hunt alot so my hunting rig usually gets alot of miles (the suburban). the mj will get used alot for hunting now since it get's better gas mileage. i'll use it for the trips i don't need much. i will build a kennel set up for it in the next week or two. then i'll use it alot more.
-
i try to use it as a dd, but it doesn't get used as much as the suburban. i use it as a truck. i haul and pull with it. most of it's use is probably hauling the dogs to the dog club and for runs. i actually do haul alot with it, but more for friends and family than for me. the main reason i got it, it's a jeep. i'll buy almost anything that says jeep on it.

i don't mind electrical work at all. sometimes it's better starting from scratch. isn't it funny how a simple repair turns into a huge project? you know where you're starting but you'll never know where you'll end.

i have 225/75/16 load rated lt tires on the mj now. the max weight and cold psi is 65. i'm wondering what you guys would recommend for a pressure. i want to maintain the best mpg possible. i can add air when i'm going to haul, but the tires can handle way more than the truck ever could. i'll mess around with them a bit to see what i like, but i'm hoping to get some ideas of where to start. :dunno:
