  1. now that's a pile up. it started around 11:30 this morning and they're still cleaning it up. they had to stop since the visibility is so bad. the interstate is closed anyway due to the weather. i'd rather see them do it when it's safe. they did get all the injuries taken care of right away and all the people are now out of thier cars and in a safe place. just the mangled metal to get rid of now. what a mess! :ack:
  2. we've got enough snow to go around. full blown blizzard today and another one hitting tomorrow. was plowing though 3-4 foot drifts to get around.man my suburban can go through anything (believe me it proved that today. there were so many stuck cars it was tuff to get around. i couldn't just leave people stuck, so i spent all afternoon and evening helping out. total, i pulled 8 vehicles ( couple fullsize 4x4's) out, pushed 2, got 3 out of traffic to a safe place for them to sitt overnight and didn't charge a dime. then i took a friend to the grocery store to get some groceries in case everything closes. i'd say a good deed done. :D
  3. so we are supposed to get hit with 2 storms by sunday. they are talking a foot but maybe 2 depending on how it swings. we are right on the edge. should be starting anytime now then get hit friday, then blowing snow on saturday. it's going to be tuff getting around here for awhile.
  4. i sell alot of stuff on ebay and craigslist. i'm never really pleased with ebay and paypal. it's kind of something i put up with just because that's where the selling has to take place. i got screwed bad by paypal a year ago. i sold some hard to find audi parts for a fair price, they were in perfect condition. i got paid via paypal, shipped the items and then got a paypal refund to the guy. he complained that the item was not as descried or damaged. i tried to fight it but paypal went with him without any real dispute being allowed on my side. the guy gave paypal some pic's of the items. they were black and chrome and had a broken light and broken tabs clearly shown in the pic's. the ones i sent the guy were black, solid black, with no damage. i even pointed out the pic's on ebay from the original posting. the gave the guy a refund. so i lost the sale money, it cost be $35 in shipping and i got 2 broken pieces back. it was obvious the guy had damaged ones, used mine to replace them, and sent his broken ones back. paypal didn't care. :fs1:
  5. go get the white leer. it's a great deal in my opinion. i've been trying to find one, even aluminum, with no luck. it looks to be in great shape and is a good looking topper. i wouldn't even question it. go get it and fast!
  6. that's just plain terrible! :fs1: i hate when forums go bad. i used to be active in a forum, sportingclays.com, but they went bad. it turned into 5 people just fighting back and forth and badmouthing each other. there was alot of crap that just went on and on. it got to the point that any valid posting ended up with these guys fighting. it wasn't worth postin a questions or response. i'll go back and see what is going on now but it was just to much last time i was on.
  7. i think the 2 best, and the ones i use the most, are rockauto.com and autohausaz.com. they have the best prices and frequently have close outs that can't be beat. free shipping is offered by one of them (don't remember which) on over $50. they both have an excellent inventory and have fast shipping.
  8. lots of people do it around here. there's even a lights parade with that being the whole idea. i think it's great! way better than house lights. i think i would have gone around the flares and the grill as well. there's some guys here that put christmas trees in the bed of thier truck with lights on them. it's all good. your lighted manche has inspired me, i am doing it next year! :D
  9. hey, gremlins can be cool. back in the late eighties when i was in high school i di construction in the summers. 1 of our guys on the crew had this incredible gremlin. he had a highly modified 401 in it. you could here him start it 2 blocks away. that thing did some of the best burnouts i have ever seen. i guess he could do wheelies with slicks on. funniest thing is he never did anything to the car cosmetically. the only thing you could notice was the large tach on the dash. it had rust an faded old paint. it was crap brown on the outside and tan on the inside. if oyu saw the car you'd laugh, until he started it.

    Snow report

we've had several storms around since the first of november. opened the camper door at deer camp 1 morning to 4". here in fargo nd, we've had several storms pass through dumping as much as 7". we just had a storm 2 days ago that dumped 6" and had alot of freezing rain (for the record, that's when the rain comes down and freezes the second it hits the ground). so that's snow, then ice, then more snow on top. talking about hard to drive on! total snow on the ground right now is about 1.5'. there's more on the way tomorrow. we've been below freezing for over a month now. we probably won't be above freezing for more than a few hours at a time until march. the white stuff should be on the ground untill the end of march at least and regularly it's here untill april. aaaahhhh..................gota wonder why we live here.
  11. my parents went south for christmas to my brother's family's and he left the xj with me. he wanted to let the gal house and dog sitting have the spot in the garage so i need to keep the jeep here. bummer! i love that truck. it's a 98 that has been babied by him and well cared for. since the manche is in need of some repairs, it's fun to have his jeep to play in. we had a snowstorm yesterday and i've been driving it around. i really like the truck but he's got the crappiest tires on it. he blames the light weight of the jeep for much of the problems on snow and ice, but the tires are definetly to blame. they are so bad you need to put it in 4wd to start at a red light or stop sign. i was driving on the road from picking up 2 of the kids from school and even the front end started sliding around. in 4wd it takes no gas pedal to get the tires on front to spin. it stinks driving it with these tires. i'm going to go tire shopping to tell him what he should do when he gets back. the jeep deserves better than these tires.
  12. i really wanted to but we had a snow storm and there was no chance of seeing it. :(
  13. it is a little better looking too! :rotf:
  14. i think it's funny that these new tiny cars that get 40 mpg's or so, if you feather the gas pedal, don't really get that good since you need to hit the gas hard to get up to speed and hold it, or go against a strong wind. the funny thing is that most of these cars can't beat the gas mileage of an '80's honda crx hf model, o some of the geo's. if i want to go for gas mileage, i'd pick up one of those.
  15. now there's another one on craigslist for $1500. around here most people sell them as "good hunting rig" or "good farm truck". there's not many around and most the people don't know what they really have. the wife says i need to fix the one i have before i get another. i just keep telling her it's christmas. ;)
  16. if it's a white one you'd probably mistake it for a snowflake. :jump:
  17. so i go on craigslist tonight and see a manche for $500 and look at the pic' same jeep!! guy says in the add he just put 200 miles on it and it did great. that's the mileage from where it was located to where he live3s. the pic is of the identical truck. so someone was smart enough to by it and resell it the next day. he's only asking $500 and that's still a pretty good price. maybe someone else will by it and resell it to make some more money.
  18. so anyone else notice the motorcycle laying on the ground in the pic? what's up with that? :dunno:
  19. first was a 76 chevy chevelle malibu, my first car. but the one that i would call a projetc, or that was bought as a project, was a 80 honda accord coupe. it was from california and some dealership or possibly honda did some performance mods to it and called it a "rally special". the car was lower and had a stiff suspension that handled geat. some performance things in the engine bay, and a performance exhaust. the thing went through exhaust like crazy. i kept having them done the way they were on the car when i got it and they'd last a year at most. i never did find out why. trying to figure out what to do withsuspension parts could be a pain. the thing was fun to drive and really handled great
  20. ya. the guy put in the add that "this add will be removed when the truck is sold. as long as the add is up, the truck is still for sale". still i had no number to call the guy since i was stupid and didn't write the number down the when i was looking at the add.
  21. so i was on craigslist last night and found the deal of the century on a '91 comanche for $175! it was a 2wd (not sure what motor) with a manual, bench seat sport stripes and very little rust (just a small spot above the rear wheel. this was a pretty good looking truck. even better, the thing runs! the guy said it was hiway ready and runs and drives great. who cares it's a manche for $175!!! got up this morning and went onto craigslist to get the number to call the guy, ad was removed. damn! :fs1: i should've just called him at midnight.
  22. oh come on guys!! yake it easy on the driver of that little smart car. maybe the driver is a guy whose wife has stolen all his masculinity. the tow hitch may be his little attempt at making the tiny thing at least have a small shred of a manly vehicle. :D besides, you all know if you had one you'ds lift it and find a way to swap in a v8!! :clapping:
  23. Nice, you have an 88. Would love to see pics of it once fully restored. Where mine is not forum worthy yet. i bought mine in '88 but it's actually an 84 coupe gt. it's got a great story behind it starting with it being a german car brought across to the states. the paperwork and story are pretty cool. i'm a big audi nut. i may get an audi symbol tattoo.
  24. so i'm not going to get involved too much on the jeep side. i think 3k for that much rust and the almost impossible ability to stop rust without major sheetmetal replacement, would make me a little shy of it. but to my more interesting question, tell me about you're audi. i can't make out the pic in you call name to well other than it looks like a nice audi sport paint job. so what is it? is it you're car? i'm a hage audi man and am currently restoring my audi i have had since '88. just curious. i like to meet audi people. :wavey:
  25. playing around is always fun, so you can try some stuff out on the extra metal you have around. you may have a little less noise with the undercoat, but i don't think it's enough to cancel out the extra protection and better resistance to gravel and such you should get with the bedliner. the bedliner will be easier to clean up and keep it looking nice if that's a big deal. alot of people just don't realize that driving 50 mph down a gravel road kicks so much garvel into the wheel wells that it's like a a sandblaster. check out a 1 year old truck that's been driven on even a little gravel and you'll see how much paint is missing. in my detailing, i use a good coat of black paint in the wheel wells to keep them clean looking and for a special look i have found really comes out when you do it. i have used bedliner on several underbodies of vehicles i have restored and it always come out right. it really keeps the crud off the truck. for the most part, mud and debris will just fall off or hose right off. an undercoat will hold some of the dirt and dust and requires a pretty good amount of cleaning to keep it clean. i feel that all the dust, dirt and debris is a big rust hazard even if there is undercoat on the metal. i'd rather know that a drive in the rain takes care of any crud that might be on there. i will tell you that my entire truck is covered in bedliner. not just the bottom, the whole truck. it holds up great to anything that i throw at. ;)
