Make sure you open the box long before you plan on installing it... All of my experiences with Rock Auto have been less than satisfying... I had them air me a fuel pump for my MJ once.. the box came and an auto tranny kick down cable was in the box.... that stinks! :fs1: luckily i have had great luck with them. i usually use them or autohausaz. now and then they have manufacturer close outs and specials for regular customers. i really like using them.

i just ordered a new pump and kit. what a deal! i got it for $34.66 shipped from rock auto. it's even the kit, not just the pump. i thought that was a great deal. so anyone wanna come put it in for me. i don't wanna get any gas on me.

:agree: ... and this is after I use to work for GM. ~Alex that's funny. i feel the same way about ford, and i used to be a ford employee. i think you see the worst of the vehicles when you work on them. :D in defense of my chevy, it's got 220k+ miles on it and never had anything major needed. in fact, it's had a new water pump, brakes, an alternator replaced, and a new exhaust. not bad for 220000 miles. it's really been an excellent truck. i change the oil, filters and other fluids and drive it. i'm not easy on it either, i use it as a truck, not an oversized car. the only better vehicle i've had is my audi. 156k miles and the motor has never been opened up. never. the only repairs i've had to do are control arm bushings, brakes, and struts. i'm doing a rebuild on it now so it's getting alot of new stuff. it's an 84 and i've had it since 88 so its been great.

What about the back glass? How should I handle that? Do I just tape it off really well? it depends on the actual glass assembly. some use a separate seal and some use a seal that comes attached to the glass. the glass in mine does have a separate seal so i would just remove that. otherwise you do need to remove the glass for a good job. if your going with another red, you can get by with tapeing it. if you don't want a fancy job, you may be able to just tape it and go. in my opinion, i'd remove the seal or take out the glass. i'm picky though. :chillin:

oh, forgot. 94 1/2 ton 4x4 auto 350 tbi (non vortec) 220000 miles

so, it started spitting and sputtering all of a sudden yesterday. i went and put some fresh gas in this morning. still spitting and sputtering. this afternoon, it wouldn't start. that where it is now. cranks over fine, but no gas. looking in the tbi, there is no gas coming out so it is not getting gas. so, i'll take a look at it tomorrow but i wanted to get the bets in on what it's gonna be. who's got fuel pump? fuel filter? fuel pump relay? electronics? lets get the bets in! :shake:

my entire truck is covered in bedliner. the previous owner did it, and not very well. he rolled it on. big time texture and thin in some areas so you can see paint under it. others are very thick and gloppy. the bed is done so thin anything will scratch it off. the rest has held up well. he used herculiner and a roller. i'll be redoing it soon. i plan to use herculiner and spray it on. i wasn't sure when i got it, but i really like it. it's held up very well. i do things with it i would never do with a nice paint job. i even use the hood as a work bench sometimes. it's great. the funny thing about it is, the po, bought it from his friend. the 2 of them decided that, since it didn't have any rust, and the paint was in such good shape, that putting bed liner over the whole thing would be a good idea. :dunno: so they covered up the nice shiny rust free paint with black bedliner. go figure. i'll post pic's when i get it done the right way.

detrimming is easy and a must. take the glass trim off but you can leave the glass in. it's pretty popular with custom cars to paint the engine compartment black. i would do the compartment in black. as far as the back of the cab or the bed, it would look better to take the bed off. however, if you're not looking for a showroom job, you can probably get the paint in there. the problem is with the prep there. you can use a self etching primer. that will help. taking the parts off to paint is nice to get everything covered. when i do it though, i spray the inners and tight spots, jambs, etc. then i put it all back together and spray the entire vehicle. if you're an expert painter and you finish never varies, doing the pieces individually is ok. but, if you aren't a perfect painter, the finish between each piece may differ. this can all be cleaned up if you're skilled in wet sanding and buffing. the other problem is that you can scratch the panels when you put them back on. anything that can come off, should. this includes the grill, lights, bumpers, fender flares, door handles, and all trim work. while that stuff is off you can clean it up or paint it if you'd like. buy some black spray paint cans. when you're done, use it to spray in the wheelwells and undercarriage that may have some overspray on it. do it once, do it right, and love it forever.

I thought this one was an impala, late 60's, but I dunno. Looks like a fun trip. I looooove junk yards, but most of that crap needs to be taken to the scrap yard... Ford Fairlane, say...... 67? :agree: that's what it looks like to me as well.

well the club grounds are the retriever club. any member can use it regardless of dog breed, but it's centered around retrievers. i'm also a member of navhda, a club for versatile hunting breeds that point and do water work. we do not have official club grounds for navhda. chances are that when i say i did something "at" the club grounds it's at the retriever club. we have a total of 180 acres and 6 ponds. i take care of it mostly. right now my dogs are: abby-11month old german wirehair pointer jake-6 year old chocolate lab kayla-15 year old german wirehair pointer shiloh-5 year old german shorthair pointer mandy-2 year old cocker hannah-1 year old black lab cross today i get to take the mj for a little road trip (about 1 hour) to check out some grounds for navhda grounds to hold a june test at. i need to make sure the water and field will be ok for testing dogs since our original spot is underwater still. off for a roadtrip. :D

i was checking out craigslist this morning and found a canoe listed. the add posted just minutes before i went on, otherwise i'm sure it would've been gone. it's an older fiberglass that the owner had backed a trailer into, making a large "dent". i didn't know that fiberglass could dent like this, but it did. so i decided i'd make the guy an offer and see what happens. i'm not afraid of a little fixing. i asked the guy what his bottom price was and he just gave me a dumb look. i couldn't get an idea out of him so i said i'd give him $40 for it (as a joke). he thought a second and said ok. what??!! is this guy serious? a 16' canoe for 40 bucks!!! i couldn't get it on top of my truck fast enough thinking he'd come to his senses. so i took it out to the club and set it there until i have time to work on it. from what i can tell, i'll need to put new foam in the end (stern) to push the fiberglass back out and put a little resin in a couple spots. i think i'm going to take the opportunity to do some modifying that i've always wanted to do for a more custom rig. i'll use it for some general canoeing, fly fishing, and hunting. the majority of the time i'll have a dog or 2 in it so i want to try a few things to add stability to it. then when i'm done, i'll put a fresh coat of camo tan paint on it (red doesn't work so well for hunting). i can't believe i actually got this deal. what a day.

i was trying to get some stuff done at the club this week. the tractor is out getting breaks on it so i haven't been able to do much the last couple weeks. we had an event today that allowed the general public onto the grounds too see dog demonstrations and have a bbq lunch. i wanted the grounds looking their best. well i just decided to make the mighty mj take the place of the tractor. cool! so i used it to pull a tine harrow and drag on the main grounds roads to get them in good shape. i spent about 2 hours working on that. the mj seat is much more comfortable than the tractor seat and having the stereo instead of mp3 was great. i couldn't beleive how well it worked. i just popped it in 4 lo and in lo on the auto. it kept the rpm's about perfect and didn't bog the engine or cause tranny shifting. it really worked great. so i went yesterday and used the same set up (minus the drag) to go over some of the grass to dethatch it. the tractor should be back in the next week or so, but i'm not sure i need it if i can run a pto in the mj.    again, i should've gotten pic's, but didn't. :wall:

hf is a great store, it's just not the right place to get everything. if you don't have much to spend, but need some tools, go for it. something is better than nothing and they do have satisfaction guaranteed. when talking about tools, i tell people to spend as much as they can on the stuff they will use regularly. if it's something you use once a year or less, feel free to save some bucks. never go that cheap on the electric tools though, you'll regret it in the end. i'm a craftsman man myself. i've had and have some snap on, but buck for buck, i'll go with craftsman now. i use my tools alot and feel the quality of craftsman is excellent.

dawn dishsoap. scrub it, let the dawn soak in a bit, extract it up. repeat this 2 or 3 times. if that doesn't do it, try germx hand sanitizer.

i know how we can fix this here little problem we got going. if we each chip in, we can buy jeep from chrysler at fire sale prices. then we all go to work at the plant and dealerships since we've all taken apart our jeeps enough to know what's going on. we bring back the 4.0 and ditch all models that are not trail rated. we pop dana 44's or better on all trucks. nothing gets out the door unless it has 4wd and an actual shift lever to put it in 4wd. we skip all the dummy lights since the end up not working anyway and go to a simply instrument cluster. we put a dial in to adjust the speedo for tire and gearing changes. most importantly, we save a ton of money by ditching the new car warranty. we all know that if it says jeep, you should know how to fix it yourself. we bring back the jeepster as a retro vehicle and bring back the xj, fsj, and mj. then we add the jeep club membership (price to be determined) as a requirement with yearly renewals. i think we can all agree that owning a jeep is a privelage and experience that we could charge for. forget this 0% financing. if you want one, you'll pay what we ask. if you want to borrow the money to buy one, it's gona cost you something. if you don't like paying interest and want 0%, go ask your family for the money. we don't give it away for free. then we come out with an ad campaign that promotes jeep as the most capable vehicle off the line. let everyone know that, if they don't buy jeep, not to call any of us jeepers when they're stuck in the mud/sand/snow/etc. then we could save some bucks by getting rid of airbags and antilock brakes. it's a jeep, drive it like a jeep. if you need the security of an airbag, drive something else. the smallest tire on any jeep will be a 31". everyone will come with a snorkel kit and wash out interior. so all that's left is to split the bucks we're making. it's my idea so i get 50%. the rest of you can fight over the remaining 50%. :chillin:

i'm not a really religious person, but................................ if he does come back, there's gona be some serious butt kicking going on. i think we all have alot of explaining to do.

if that were for sale here, it would already be in my driveway for $500. get it. pull the sbc and put jeep stuff back in it. i think that's dirt cheap for a complete and running rig. get it!!!!

i have always stayed away from ethanol as much as possible more because it dries out and cracks rubber parts. unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to find non-mix around here. i've tried several different stations around town and can't find straight gas. if you call most stations, they answer your question with "uhhhhhh, i don't know". i think i'll go looking around again this weekend. :hmm:

i'm fine driving around, starts and stops, no problem. when i sit at a stop sign, it idles ruff like it set to low. when i hit the gas hard, it takes off no problem, but bogs and starts to die right away. so it gets off the line hard, just bogs within a few seconds. it's an 87 2.5 with 95k miles. :dunno: so any ideas what's going on?

best spark plugs for a 4.0 (02 grand cherokee)?
brdhntr replied to brdhntr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
any idea on the specifics for the plug? the exact plug? i want to be able to tell him what to go get so he doesn't mess something up when he's looking them up. it'll be easier if i can just call him and give him the brand, plug type, and number. i know some plugs work better than others in some engines, as well as different heat levels. is ngk platinum the oe plug? it's on an 02 gc with 4.0. -
i'm going to change plugs for my father in law in the future. i was just wondering what you guys have found to be the best in this application. also, his cruise only works on occasion. when he gets it set it may be fine, or it may fail at anytime. sometimes it won't even engage. it's very hit or miss. any ideas?

top speed limiter?! how fast do you think you're gona go? ;) on a track on a street legal bike, i did a radar confirmed 154mph. after 130, i started to realize i was crazy. that was with full leathers on. i was crazy on a bike. i was one of those who would pull a wheelie at 100 out of a curve. i did always wear leather and a helmet. i was getting ready to race when a close friend was killed on a bike. the police figured he was going just under 130 when he hit the truck. he wasn't wearing a helmet. i sold all my bikes and didn't ride for 3 years. since then i haven't gone over 100 on a bike. now i'd rather just cruise then go fast. :chillin:
