Rear Bumper Ideas And Opinions
glundblad replied to Southpaw26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I believe you can still purchase a Fey. I had one on my truck for awhile until I found a factory bumper. There is a good comparison photo on page 3 of the link below: http://comancheclub.com/topic/13105-comanche-chief-pics/ -
He is no longer responding to any posts. He must have been offended by the "Lack of Trees" comment. Must have been a sensitive issue for him. :laughin: Jim, whatever happened to the white Chief you had. Did you get her going oK?

Maybe they won't go to china after all. Maybe they will go to Italy. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-10-28/marchionne-seen-missing-fiat-sales-target-by-19-billion#p1

Mine had all sorts of problems. I didnt think there would be any end to it. Eventually, I got all the kinks worked out and it runs like it did when new. It is quite possible that things have been going bad but ignored by the previous owner. Most of us, when something is broke, we fix it right away. Others arent like that. Then they domino and someone has to fix it. They are incredibly reliable but after you get the bugs out. They are a 20+ year old truck. Patience and persistence.

I ordered a ford raptor a few months ago (but it still hasnt arrived). I have seen obnoxious license plate frames that say something like "Ford, Built without your taxpayer dollars". I am really considering getting one. The only problem is we have a big GM plant in the area. I could see someone keying me pretty easily.

With all the Jeep manufacturing in Ohio, if Ohio votes for this clown in November, they have it coming to them. I would never buy another Jeep. http://washingtonexa...03#.UIl4z0bCz8B

Definately a Fey bumper. You southerners sicken us rust belt folks. In Indiana we call that bed a prize too. I would probably drop dead if I saw one in that good of condition in an Indiana JY. Someone needs to grab that. Nice score btw.

True but the back side was exposed. That is the important part.

That must have been a Chrysler thing? Mine was an AMC and I never received a tape with it.

1989 Jeep Comanche Product Info - Vhs Conversion
glundblad replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
Mine came from the factory with a D44 and gas filled shocks that they mention as part of the "off road package", but it didnt have skids. They mentioned the gas filled shocks "and other components" increased ground clearance. Anyone know what that means? I ask because I can remember for years seeing other comanches on the road. My stock MJ always appeared to sit higher than other stock MJ's I have seen on the road. Even my wife noticed that. Is the axle tube thicker on a D44 or was there something else? I have destroyed the evidence now since my rusted busted factory f&r springs are long gone. It has been bugging me for years. I would love to get this question answered so I can get on with my life. Any theories anyone? :dunno: -
1989 Jeep Comanche "car Wars" Comparison - Laserdisc Conversion
glundblad replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
I remember when we bought ours in '87. The comanche really was ahead of it's time when you compared it to the competition of that same period. -
The bumper he is refering to is a fey. I have one (i mean I got stuck with one). They are fine regarding strength but they don't look right. I would stay away from them if possible. I describe mine in the following post: http://comancheclub....cs/page__st__40 Also, when I was getting my truck redone, my factory rear bumper was in terrible shape so I tossed it. Not knowing what I was doing, I also tossed the plastic trim pieces. I was able to find new but that act still haunts me to this day.

You are not much help! :rotf:

Laserdisc! Love Laserdisc. I have about 100 disks in my collection including the very rare Disney's "Song of the South". It is perceived by some to have inapropriate content so they will never re-release it. Not to insult your intellegence but hookup can be a little tricky depending on the disk you are playing. You need to select that audio output during playback. AC3 which is now known as dolby digital and optical outputs. They are probably running the audio through rca jacks but just in case. IIRC, I have some disks that are mono but still use a digital signa???. That little tidbit can be a little confusing.

The other products compared was something called Boeshield and the other was Fluidfilm. I agree about the surface prep. DIrt roads are a tough environment. I thought I would hit it right when I got the truck. According to the post, it took 3 days to dry before he drove it IIRC.

I know there are quite a few Amsoil fans on this forum and I need advice. I was on another forum and a guy bought some of this stuff "Amsoil Heavy Duty metal protector". http://www.amsoil.co...efront/amh.aspx and sprayed his entire frame on his new truck. I am ditching my somewhat new and very disliked POS z71 Chevy Tahoe daily driver and getting something different. I live in Northern Indiana and on a dirt road. I keep my trucks for 10 years and want them to last. The guy on the other forum sprayed the entire undercarriage of his truck. It dried to a waxy haze and it seemed to keep his chassis very lubricated and free of dirt and rust. It is really not very expensive. It never hardens completely so bolts will always work. It is an oil base so it always wicks. He said 4 cans did a full size truck. Since my MJ got back from the body shop a couple of years ago, I was thinking of spraying this junk on the frame along with my JK. The rear leafs on my MJ have never seen winter but they still have minor surface rust on them. I think this stuff would prevent that. Plus it looks like it would keep new parts looking new. Anyone used it?

What Don said. And it is noticable.
-
Darren, What happened to the last chief you purchased? Was there something wrong with it?

I bought a 3.8 JK rubicon 2 door in '09. It doenst have near the HP the 3.6 does but we are very happy with it. My wife's daily driver was a tahoe. Last year, we got rid of the tahoe. Now she calls the JK "her's". Hmm. Anyway, we both really like it. Zero problems so far.

Dang, I live in the rust belt but I have never seen an emergency brake that bad. It looks like they found it on a beach.
-
I think I still have one. It would be the original OWL that came as a spare. It was never on the ground either but it has some big time rubs being on the spare tire wench for 20+ years. I am speaking out of ignorance but wouldnt this be expensive to ship?
-
All that effort and still doesnt know how to spell comanche?

My truck came with the hockey stick door handles. The clips are plastic. I was not able to remove them at a JY without tearing them up. I found some on ebay awhile back.

metric ton springs lifted?
glundblad replied to codymanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an '87. When it was new, I absolutely swear my ride height was higher than other MJ's on the road at the time. Even my wife noticed. I have no explaination for it but I have always been very curious about it. Unfortunately, I swapped the rear springs and in photos prior to the swap, my springs were in pretty bad shape. I wish I measured ride height before I swapped them out.
