While it is definately a stroke of bad luck, I would take that dent on the sheet metal over rust around the wheel wells any day. You still came out pretty good.

BTW, I think it is illegal for you to remove those factory Marchals and replace them with cheap "Jeep" aftermarkets. :brows:

Close. They are the original French Marchal lights. Good quality lights. When the supply started drying up, AMC Jeep went with a similar looking light mfg. in the US, with the lens stamped ROL. These were pure junk, rusted out quickly and are mostly gone now. I was the proud owner of both lights. My truck came with ROL lights from the factory on the front bumper. My truck didnt come with lighs on the roll bar. Don is right about the ROL lights. The truck had pretty low miles yet the ROL lights rotted away on the inside. I found a set of 850 Marchals and replaced them. I like them a lot but I don't use them much. There are two models of Marchals that were on Jeeps if I recall correctly. The Marchal 750 and 850. I think the 750 is closer in size to the ROL lights and the 850 is slightly larger. 850 was used on the FSJ's. According to my factory parts manual from '87 - '90, only ROL lights are listed as factory parts on the front bumper. Marchals are listed in the accessories catalog. But I don't know if that means anything. So you have two choices with those crappy bathead fog lights. Tear them down and take care of them. Then get some covers for them or sell them to me. Here are 850's on my '87. They are a little crooked so ignore that.

Use claybar and then if that works, then wax it. Clay may work better than rubbing compound. Remember, you are representing all of us!

that's why we don't drive our gems in winter. I don't have an mj that's seen the road in winter for years. Amen to that. And a heated garage.

Just Another Old Jeep Truck at Auction
glundblad replied to flint54's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I look at that poor old truck and think of how much money it would take to restore it back to the way it was. A rusty old unmolested POS would be less expensive than that to restore. What a pity. :( -
Datsun 240z? I have owned two of those! Never figured out how to sync the SU's though.

This is a depressing post. I had a 2002 tahoe and a 2003 tahoe. They started to rust in the indiana weather. After fixing them and seeing the rust return, we parted our ways. I passionately hate purchasing vehicles. :( 2009 Wrangler Rubicon (her's) 2011 Tahoe z71 (mine)

I had one. It was black rather than chrome. I liked it quite a bit but I wanted a factory bumper. I think the Fey is a little more rust prone but also a bit stronger than the factory one. I have some photos and a side by side comparison to the factory bumper at the end of the link in my signature. I should add that I didnt mount it to my truck. The body shop did. If I recall correctly, they used the existing factory bumper brackets and drilled larger holes in the brackets to get them mounted. It wasnt that big of a deal.

I also have a JK. A fully loaded 2009 2 door Rubicon. My comanche is by far my favorite of the two. Good luck with the search.

it takes about 2 days for the swelling on the knuckles to go down.

I experienced the same thing. If I recall correctly, large vice grips, a hack saw, many four letter words and some bloody knuckels got them loose.

NOS tailgate handle
glundblad replied to glundblad's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
That makes sense. Too bad the dirty dog likes chrome so much. Otherwise, he would have something I could actually use. I have chrome hubcaps. Other than that..can't think of anything. :???: -

Hope this is in the right spot on the forum... My son bought some axles for his '03 Grand Cherokee from a JY a week or so ago. After he got them home and removed the springs on the front axle, he saw that one of the spring perches were rusted out. This axle has varlok (LSD) so he wants to keep it but he doesnt want a half baked solution. Can anyone offer any advice on a quality solution? This Grand is his daily driver. I am sure your mom has something cool in mind but... if you want to do something real cool with that photo, the place where I work sells these: http://www.shindigz.com/party/Family-Portrait-Photo-Canvas.cfm You can upload any photo you want. The photo is printed on a canvas stapled over a wood frame. For $20, you can't beat it.

The old sales literature from '87 would list the options by model. I would post a picture of it but I no longer have a scanner. The Chief included a slight interior upgrade. My window sticker is located in this post http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=21903. It listed all the options. Interior color had nothing to do with the chief package other than they stopped making the chief about a year after they stopped making black interiors. So they sort of came and went at the same time. Since black interiors were so popular, they had to stop making it.

89 XJ Limited, 2dr. leather power seats
glundblad replied to airspeed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the leather is showing wear but they are not tore up, the color is easily restored to like new condition. It is painfully easy to do and you will not be able to tell you fixed them. Measure the quality of the seats by the tears only. I put black leather in mine which dates the donor XJ to around '87 or older. I was not able to use the power seat brackets but everything else bolts in. The height was the same as my previous buckets and bench. I used my bench seat brackets. My seats are from a 4 door meaning they do not tilt forward. The only time I really care is when I need to stow the jack. Then it is very frustrating. Other than that, when I need to put something behind the seat, I put it behind the passenger seat. No big deal. I originally had a bench which was very uncomfortable. Then I went to XJ cloth buckets which were a big improvement. The leather seats are by far my favorite. Much better support. Easier to get in and out and much more durable. My inability to get behind the seats is greatly outweighed by the way the sit. I would do it again in a heartbeat. By the way, the seats in the BMCars link appears to be something other than factory. I don't know if I am right or not. Recoveredd perhaps. I have seen a black 2 door limited in my small town. It is a RHD. I have never had an opportunity to look inside it or talk to the owner, but if I do... -

I just don't know about those. I know they are classics but... when I was a kid, we called those ugly. :ack: -
Acceptable rust for a restoration buy?
glundblad replied to Alexia's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would not consider purchasing anything that has had a hack saw to it. Others would like to shoot me but I wouldnt trust any truck that had a 4 cyl in it and was converted to the 4.0. My understanding is a lot needs replaced including the entire wiring harness. That would be an excellent way to introduce gremlins into the truck that are difficult if not impossible to locate. Regarding the floor boards, there have been many on this forum that have purchased trucks with floor boards rusted away. I would plan on any MJ you purchase needing the floor boards replaced. Then be delighted if that turns out not to be true. don't forget to check for rust behind the fender flairs. Particularly the rear. Those are the ones that are the most dificult to replace. No reason to rush. Locate a 4x4 with minimal rust and a 4.0L. BTW, my truck cost me $500. It had a factory 4.0L, D44 axle with LSD and 80k miles. It had a solid frame and solid floors. The fenders, doors and rockers were all gone however. But it wasnt modified in any way. I would have classified it as a restoration candidate. -
