I have a chief that required a lot of decals when it was getting repainted. The body shop took it to a local sign shop that makes vinyl signs. The chief stickers are all one solid color but I would still give them a try.

Perfect.

:hmm: that sounds like broken service to me It was an unqualified question. "How many of you still own your first comanche?" Mine is my first comanche and I still own it. :jump:
-
I own my first MJ that I bought in '87 but I sold it in '95 and bought it back. But that still qualifies as owning my first one. Right?

I think it is time you admit you have a problem. :rotf:

Well, unfortunately I can do one better. I can remember. :( I am almost certain they were a matte finish when new. I have a chief that has flat black stickers on it and the black SporTruck stickers looked the same as my chief stickers.

Most reliable/unreliable engine
glundblad replied to LobsterThief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The value is in the 4.0. It has a reputation and is considered a desirable engine. You may find a 4 cyl in good shape for a great price. Then a few months later, a 4.0 comes up for the same money. Then you need to live with your self which in my case would not be easy. -
LOW Miles Comanche WOW!

It is pretty far. It is a small town of about 7,000 and about 20 minutes from Ft Wayne. -

This truck is located in the town where I live and where I have lived all my life. I am a little suprised I have never seen that thing around. Although at 17,000 miles, it may not have been on the road too frequently. -
A declared value of $2500 - $3000 seems very reasonable to me providing it is in rust free condition. I would add $1000 if it were 4wd.

I have posted a few questions here that didnt get answered. On the other hand, I have asked a couple of "Gauge Swap" questions and "Which XJ Seats fit in an MJ". Those two questions have been done to death but people still ask them and people still answer them. But at times things go unanswered. For some sick, unexplainable reason, the people here like MJ's. This forum is not someone's job. When a question I ask goes unanswered, I don't take a couple of shots of JD, crawl in a corner and stick a gun in my mouth. No one here is obligated to do anything. But when they do, it is appreciated. People have a passion and they come here to be informed and/or entertained. There are no 100% gurantees on either objective. don't take this wrong but you seem pretty young. You have no reason to be upset and no one has any reason to search through your posts to see how many were and were not answered. By the way, how many inches does the rocker style XJ seat rails raise the seats in an MJ?

It's an easy fix. Shave in the shower. Make it the last thing you do. The steam really helps. Then you won't feel like you are ripping your face off. Then touch up with an electric razor.

I would think you could use regular cherokee parts from Chrysler. My '87 mj did not come from the factory with AC. It was added at the dealer. Adding them at the dealer was very comon back then.

...and this is why you don't drop insurance on something that's worth $700k, much less $1k. all it takes is one idiot to cost some you a ton of cash...and unfortunately, in that type of situation....it's your own damned fault. You are right. A guy puts his own property in storage and another guy takes it on a joy ride. It wasnt the pilot's fault. I keep forgetting this is 2011 and we are not responsible for our own actions. It is always someone else's faut. And yes I don't like obama's policies only because he is black. I will get it figured out someday. There is a lot of new stuff to remember :wall:

In the late 90's, I used to work for a guy that collected airplanes. He was not a pilot but he had one on the payroll. One of them was a 6 passenger, pilot/copilot cessna with a pressurized cabin and twin engines. Somewhere in there, he rebuilt the engines. If I recall correctly, the plane was valued at about $700k. He decided to sell the planes and the cessna was all that was left. He put it in storage and dropped the insurance. The pilot took it up anyway. One of the newly rebuilt engines caught fire so he had to ditch it in a corn field. They sold it for $200 scrap aluminum. I recall seeing that pilot walking up to the building where I worked. He had a meeting with my boss. I assume he had some impossible BS story about how he was going to try to pay it all back. He didnt look good. True Story. At least you werent that guy.

HOLY RUST FREE BATMAN!!!! IL/WI BORDER!!!

I could have really used this truck a couple of years ago for body parts. -
It is difficult to say if it helped and how much is my imagination. I was going to measure it with a SPL meter but I didnt get around to it. But I believe it helped a lot. Rather than putting it on the truck, I installed it on the inside of the b-pilar panels, the carpeted panel behind the seat and the roof. They say the best areas you can install it and get the best results were behind the door panels and the transmisson hump but I didnt have those tore apart so it never got installed in those areas. I may put some in the door panels over the winter. Personally, I have mixed feelings about whether I should have installed it in the ceiling. It made my headliner panel fit a little tight so I was not able to snap the plastic clip back of the driver side trim over the door (anyone know which one I am talking about?). But installing it there may have had a lot of impact too. Sorry for the inconclusive results but if anyone needs to know for sure, they will need to drive here to my house, use my SPL meter to go down the road at a certain speed with their truck and repeat using my truck.

I found an 86 mj at a jy recently that has a black interior. I already removed the plastic interior pieces and am considering removing the dash. I am not sure why I need it but I just don't want to see it go to the shredder. Can anyone offer any advice on how difficult it is to remove a dash?

I believe the caps on those lugs are stainless steel. Personally I like them very much and think they are very good quality. They can separate after 25 years of wear. I wanted to get better ones too so I bought some new Jeep lugs just like what I had.

 Congrats An education is the best investment anyone can make. The return on investment will always beat any other investment imaginable.

Dual tanks. There's a thought.
-
I agree. I think it would make a great parts truck. The bed looks solid.
-
Since everyone is talking about their good luck, I may as well chime in. I bought all the plastic trim out of a black interior comanche recently (no center console). I paid all of $20 for it. :wavey: I am going to get the dash when I have time.

I couldn't find one either and ended up installing a Mitsubishi single DIN unit. Looks almost factory. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5613&hilit=mitsubishi Don, I was curious if the sound quality was any better with your Mitsubishi compared to your factory radio? I wanted to retain the factory radio in the worst way so I thought I would be smart and replace the speakers. I replaced only the b-pilar ones, not the door ones and keep the factory radio. I realize the b-pilar speakers are a little small but I would have thought anything would be better than factory. In hindsite, I think the bulk of the sound is in the doors. Regardless, it didnt sound any better. Paul, Did you hear any improvement with your ford radio compared to the factory Jeep one?
-
I needed to replace my doors so I had the body shop cut mine off. When I got the truck home, I realized I couldnt read mine either. The headings were fine but the important stuff was faded away.
