I didnt realize they were rare. I saw one at a junk yard last summer next to an old Javlin. I should have pulled it but I didnt. I bet it is picked over by now.

I noticed the parking brake in the center console. What was the story behind that? Was there a reason you relocated it? -

I was always skeptical since the photos never showed any brackets. -
When was the last time you drove a Wrangler or CJ?

Last week sometime. My wife has an '09 JK Rubicon 2 door. We live on a very crappy country road. That thing is not the best highway cruiser (although it can stop on a dime) but when you take it off road, across a field, or down our rough dirt road, I am amazed at how sure footed it feels. -
I saw a professional junk yarder awhile back with a light, inexpensive appliance dolly (one that would collapse if you actually used it). He had a 5 gallon bucket bungee strapped to it to carry tools. It was light and held quite a bit. Plus he didnt need to carry much.

Buying a comanche tomorrow/ dw questions
glundblad replied to conner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It has been said that replacing the steering stabilizer is putting a band aid on the problem. I would guess track bar bushings or tire/alignment issues. If that is the case, it has been said incorrectly. There is a difference between steering wheel shake and death wabble. If you remove your steering stabilizer and replace it with a piece of pipe, you will get steering wheel shake. That is not death wobble (although it may quickly turn into it  ). A steering stabilizer is designed to dampen shock from the road to the rest of the steering components, including the steering wheel. If it no longer works, it will no longer dampen anything. If he has the factory stabilizer, it is likely it is not doing much. -
No, mine are black vinyl with the map pockets, hockey stick armrests and carpeted bottoms. They were stock. I think they look exactly like yours but black doesnt photograph very well (no offense to your photography skills :brows: ). Good find though. It would have been a shame to waste that stuff.

Can anyone recomend any product that restores the interior plastic trim (and vinyl for that matter) to it's original condition? For example, Armour All does a great job but it only lasts about 18 minutes (pardon the slight bit of sarcasm :brows: ). I recently aquired a black center console that is a bit oxidized. Thanks

:rotf: Yea, running shoes. That really sucks. :clapping: Rob, Excellent find. I can't stop looking. Are those factory floor mats? They look like they are in better shape than the carpet. I would have pulled that crap if I ran across it. I see that you got a set of nice door panels with the carpet/map pockets and hocky stick arm rests. Quick question for you. Those came with chrome trim rings behind the arm rests which you pulled. Did that XJ have the smaller chrome trim behind the handle part of the armrest? Mine had those door panels from the factory but I thought they had both pieces of chrome trim at one time. I wonder the smaller chrome piece was lost at the body shop. I picked up a new set at a JY a couple of weeks ago. can't remember if mine had it or not. Old age. :shake:

Buying a comanche tomorrow/ dw questions

Mine started to shake pretty bad over 40mph when I bought it. Turned out to be the steering stabilizer. -
I saw that thing on ebay. $400. I wonder what he was thinking. Was it a member that owned it?

If you think this is the end of the internet, can you believe we are actually considering handing over it's control to the UN?
-
You know what they say, cows are a major contributor to greenhouse gases. She really needs to consider a vehicle with solid axles.

:rotf: Way back when in the USN I was stationed on the SS-350 Dogfish, one of the last diesel subs on the East Coast. No matter where I went, and how much I scrubbed, everyone within 20' of me knew I was a off one of the pigboats. Didn't bother me though. 8) Back on topic: I use a propane radient 3-element wall unit with an optional thermostat to heat my 30'x24' garage. While it's not super cold down here we go a few weeks at a time when it's well below freezing. It's a 30K BTU unit, and I light it off about 30 minutes before I go in and it's nice and toasty, kicking on and off using one element to maintain the temp. Used very little fuel, and I don't stink diesel now. Hi Pigboat. I kinda like that. :rotf:

To give you a frame of reference, speedtest shows me 5.07 mbps down and .62mbps up. I am running high speed internet over copper through our local phone company. I am pretty happy with it most of the time. Every internet connection is a party line to some extent. No one is the only node on the network (unless it is 1969 :brows: ). But a lot depends on when you arrive on a main trunk and how many people are there with you on the journey. But once you get there, your good. But your final speed is only as fast as the slowest link. My understanding with residential internet connections is that in most cases, they are shared much like the old fashioned cable connection into a housing addition. You and your neighbors are all connected to basically one switch port. Depending upon how busy that "Party Line" is dictates how much throughput you get. That is probably why they offer the 12mbps which on the surface seems obnoxiously high. I recall that at work, I was seeing much better response times from our T1's than I got at home. A T1 is rated at measly 1.54mpbs IIRC. I would encourage you to do the 12 if you can. I bet there is a reason they don't offer anything between 1 & 12. Oh and regarding the router, in my case, I needed the telco's equipment. It wasnt an option. But they didnt charge me for it. I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to hook up with one from best buy but I would imagine they have a list of approved devices. If you don't get your own, you will be paying $10 per month for a $75 piece of crap.

Diesel Fuel Only - Factory Diesel Comanche
glundblad replied to Automan2164's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Very Nice. Keep the red interior. It looks great with the white. But naturally, fix the dash (and the gearshift knob). Plus those red seats are pretty easy too find. And those door panels... Finding some that nice in black with those arm rests would be tough. Red is definately of that period. Very common in Comanche, XJ and Grand Wagoneer. Are you actually going to drive this in the winter? won't she rust away? You may want to check local laws before you do. Oh and yes, I am also glad to see that avatar finally go. -
I don't understand. Besides someone dreaming about selling this for $400, what happened? Did I miss something? These comments are going right over my head.

Arn't you the same guy that uses his head as a hood prop? :rotf:

Oh yea. Right after we got married we were looking for our first home. We looked at everything. Each visit was disappointing. Then we started to get desparate and considered lowering our expectatioins. Fortunately, we found what we were looking for. We figured it out the second we walked through the door. I have heard from other home shoppers, that is not unusual.

I believe I saw one of those at a JY in NE Indiana. I don't recall if it was configured as a wrecker or not.

1987 Comanche Pioneer daily/play truck
glundblad replied to 87c0manch3's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
If that fuel pump was hissing pretty loud, that was normal. Oh and don't forget. If it takes 7 cranks before it starts, that is normal too. -
I saw that thing. I think it was an '86. It was in nice shape too. I think it belonged to one of the guys in the lime green shirts that were assisting that day. Were you by chance the guy is asked about the sun visors? :waving: That was the only other MJ I saw there. That was quite an event. I bet there were 200 jeeps in that convoy.

My truck has been lightly used but the steering stabilizer was shot a couple of years ago. The steering wheel vibrated above 50mph. I replaced it with an OEM version. It eliminated the shake/vibrate and it drove fine. Later, I decided to put an OME stabilizer (Old Man Emu) in. I was amazed at the difference between the OEM verses OME.
