explorer 8.8s are reasonably common with 4.10 gears. :thumbsup: and a cherokee 8.25 would be good too. I wouldn't use a Dana 35, but I can understand if it has the right gears and is dirt cheap. just be kind to it and it might last a while. try car-part.com for searching junkyards. if you go for an 8.8, you have to search for both v6 and v8 models. they are identical inside, but have different brackets (which you'll be cutting off anyways) for the 2 models of explorer.

your fuel economy won't change much with the various ratios. what will change is you will no longer curse your truck because it can't get out of it's own way with those awful 3.07s. :D opinions vary though on 31s on 3.07s. some guys say it's not that bad. i HATED my truck with 3.07s and 30" tires. simply upgrading to 3.55s after the Dana 35 blew up put the smile back on my face. :yes:

do you still have the old filter around?

I personally would wait rather than do it wrong. I know the desire to get it up in the air is strong :yes: , but I don't think you'll like the results.

just a bit over "shouldn't" cause a problem like that in our Jeeps. some cars are very sensitive to it, but I've had a full quart over stock (back when my rear main seal was leaking) and not had any issues.

I'm unfamiliar with that brand. I ask because I had a Fram fail on me and leave me with 0 oil pressure a few years ago.

far as I know, the news station got a tip that some of the guys at the plant were doing it again. they weren't picking on Chrysler, just checkin' out a tip that panned out. maybe it's just that their parking lot is out in the open. :dunno: also, the trenton plant is further from the city of Detroit than me. it's comfortably in the 'burbs. but all of michigan sucks for jobs.

there are a dozen locations for water to get in to our trucks. I used the baby powder trick to find mine. sprinkle it around in the suspect area and hit the truck with the hose. the water will make little trails through the powder, allowing you to backtrack to the source. :thumbsup: no guarantees though, as sometimes it takes real rain to cause the leak (or in the case of the one leak in my 88, rain and wind from a certain direction). or it might be like my 86, where the windshield seal was leaking at the top and the water was traveling inside the A-pillar and down to the floor. might never have found that one if the A-pillar trim wasn't missing.

I've seen other late model XJs that had rust issues on the roof but nowhere else. I'm starting to think it was a factory defect issue (like the paint on my 00 dakota).

have you installed the shackles yet? my guess is that they either are 2" longer than stock, or that they would have lifted an XJ (which has shorter stock shackles) 2". longer shackles only give half their added length in lift. i.e. shackles 2" longer than stock MJ units will give 1" of lift. So to give 2" of lift, they would need to be 4" longer than stock and if memory serves me right, that would be a shackle over 9" long. what condition are your leafs in? If you can get some main leafs from an S-10 for cheap, you might as well just try it all and see what happens. might work out fine. :dunno:
