  1. that was a surprisingly hellish project, but the shocks are now mounted. and if you're wondering why there are two nuts on the left side, it's because the bolt refused to stop spinning and tighten down all the way. it's all good now. :D
  2. how you anchor it is WAY more important than whether it's 1 3/4 or 2". both sizes are sufficient to save your noggin.
  3. your ride should remain exactly as it is now. I'd suggest some WJ lower control arms if you're sticking with Jeep rims.
  4. cheapest possible is 2" poly spacers up front and a longer shackle in the rear (the most commonly used is a Chevy fullsize shackle designed to drop said chevy). you can keep your brakelines, shocks, trackbar swaybar links, control arms, etc. should be under 100 easy.
  5. it'll be fine for maybe 100 shifts and then decide to bang into gear pretty dang hard. ideas? 176k on a '96 aw4. fluid looks good.
  6. New shoes!! found a good deal on some 245/70/16 tires and wrapped them around my rubicon rims. :D though the new rubber has made it dreadfully obvious that the rear of my XJ is sagging. :( I think I'll throw on some MJ shackles for now until I put together a plan for beefier springs.
  7. gots me a hitch protecting mine. :D
  8. gotcha.
  9. They are a good choice and likely what I'll be going with. But what I meat was; what model of vehicle with give me the correct length shock for a stock height XJ with a BPE installed? (for example, Comanche rear shocks seem to work for a 3" lift) or am I over thinking this and should just get stock ones and push out the pins. maybe that's why there aren't any examples out there in internetland.

    it's a shame it wasn't offered in 2wd. :(
  11. ok, so I'm going to be doing the BPE conversion using the swaybar bracket trick. what shocks do I buy? I've found tons of info online for lifted XJs, but none for stock height XJs. :(
  12. they are not longer, but there is some adjustment in the rear mounting point to push the arm forward. aftermarket arms with a round cross-section will also work. they may not allow as much turn, but when the tire hits it won't catch as bad as stock arms.
  13. I think that might make it worse by putting the tires into the fenders at full turn.. oh, and add WJ lower control arms to that mix.
  14. this looks promising: http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Suspension_Steering_Axles_and_Brakes/Rear_BPEs.htm
  15. any fixes out there that don't involve drilling out the broken bolt or welding?
  16. and I don't mean that only one of four broke. I stopped after the first one snapped.
  17. oh the joys of XJ ownership. snapped an upper bolt on the rear shocks. :fs1:
  18. x2 that's awesome!
  19. :waving: the truggy is looking fantastic. keep at it! and start building her one of these:
