  1. well there's somethin' you don't see everyday... :(
  2. this location is probably of no real help to anyone, I just like to participate  I bolted it to the rollbar up under the spare. not exactly easy to get to, but it's not something I use a lot so I don't mind. here's a wider shot showing what you're looking at in the first:
  3. before you get too carried away, double check that your fluid is good and up to level. my peugeot was always cranky when the fluid level dropped.
  4. boost is fun :D
  5. we all start at the bottom rung of the knowledge ladder. I cringe when I think about all the money I've thrown away paying others to do work I can now do in my sleep.
  6. if it has the 4spd manual, then chances are that the axles will have 3.55 gears. but that's not set in stone since 86 didn't have the same pairing standardizations of 87+.
  7. if they are that rare, I say buy it. but I also vote for keeping the drivetrain. the 2.5 will give better fuel mileage and has the power to move a 30" tire. plus you can swap a 242 into it if you grab one with the 21 spline input.

    so...clean...
  9. the "stroh's draft" wins again! . :MJ 1: . . :MJ 1: .
  10. new one by me. I'm stumped :dunno:
  11. I had KOs on my Dakota for a while. hated them.
  12. yeah, he was really hamming it up. :D
  13. I bought some snow tires through tirerack and had them mounted at a walmart. worked out great for me. :D my local discount tire would not match their price, even with shipping and mounting costs. told me they only match brick-n-mortar prices. :fs1: mostly I just keep an eye on craigslist and local 4wd forums for screaming deals on practically new tires.
  14. I'm sure it'll have one eventually :D I moved the seat back to the original location now that he's 3 and can reach the pedals (Powerwheels say it's for ages 3+). still haven't been able to find the time to wire in the lights. also,t hebattery is not doing well. seems someone (cough*his grandpa*cough) forgot to plug it in to the trickle charger while I was in michigan and that plus the cold half-killed it. and since it's a Jeep, a breakdown is inevitable (pretend or not). gotta keep up on those fix-it skills :D admit it, you wish you had one of these when you were 3 :D
  15. that's my vid :D never did here back from the new owner :(
  16. and how many will pull up their carpet after seeing the Flintstones-mobiles many of us have. :( any location that can trap moisture needs regular inspection
  17. neat!

michigan did that too. made us give up our white on blues for a blue on white for better readability.
  19. does the fan work on high at all?
  20. the parts involved with a limited slip swap will replace the carrier and will require gear setup. because of the labor cost involved, they are not cheap to add. If you want a limited slip diff, your cheapest route is likely a junkyard axle that already has it installed.
  21. the internal springs do that for you.
  22. x2. the only things you should be reusing from the MJ are the MJ-specific things like the gas tank, rear lights, etc.
  23. to sum it up... limited slip: generic term for a diff that tries hard to keep power going to both tires but will allow some differentiation if the going gets tough. this design can be expensive to get into your axle. locker: generic term for a diff that physically locks the two tires together when the going gets tough. this design has both expensive and cheaper types available. a "lunchbox locker replaces the spider gears inside the stock carrier and is relatively cheap and easy to install. a full diff locker is far more expensive but stronger because they replace the stock carrier. (the strength aspect won't matter in the case of the Dana 35 because the shafts in the axles will likely fail before the stock carrier) Dana 35C: the most common axle found under MJs and XJs. 1984-1989 were of a non C-clip axle retention design. 1990+ were of a C-clip axle retention design. The C in Dana 35C does not in any way refer to the C-clip. To sum up the summary: go buy a lunchbox style locker, install it, and then let us know how much you love it. :D one caveat to all this: the open diff that you have now is a better choice for snowy and icy streets (less traction, but far less likely to spin out). but in theory you could remove and install the lunchbox locker with the seasons.
  24. if you swap the XJ over wholesale, I think the fuel tank level wires need to be switched. something in my brain says they flipped them along the line and so an early sender with a later gauge (or vice versa) would give you a backwards gauge.
