anyone have some experience with 'em? my buddy has a set on his Superduty but he really hasn't done anything but pavement since getting them.

well after talking with my uncle, I've modified the plan a bit. his needs include shooting from atop the jeep (not just storage up there), 2 spares, tires that are cut resistant and will handle 50+ mph across the plains of wyoming (rather than deep mud), and a bumper combo that will survive an impact with an antelope. so this means the exocage is a go. probably with a ladder built into the design of the rear pass side (gas tank is on the drivers). the roof rack will hold a spare tire to sit on and a steel mesh across it for walking. since he drives like it was the dakar rally, the axles will definitely be getting trusses. for tires I was thinking of the Cooper S/T Maxx. My buddy has them under his Superduty and they seem as tough as a big chuck of rubber could be. E-rated with triple sidewalls and the new cut resistant rubber for the tread. plus they come in a 32x10.5 which should work better than the 34x10.5s for stuffing while at speed.

is the rock shifter shift that much faster? or is it just that much simpler?

who's got some, which ones, how much $$, and how well do they work compared to normal offroad lights?

we hauled it over to my grandmas where it'll sit 'til I return this summer. I think the best course of action would be finding a rotted out 4wd donor. this one is reasonably clean (except for the crunched-in pass doors) and deserves to be 4wd for once in its life. :D

so far so good. :thumbsup: got everything separated except the exhaust pipe. I'm letting those bolts soak. the owner of the XJ is coming over to help heave the assembly off. should know soon if the gasket is the only issue. I did have to go buy a 12 point 13mm deep 3/8" socket for that one back bolt. my deep 13mm half-inch socket was too tall and the short one too short. the new socket is juuuuust right. :D

looks like I'm going to be tearing down a friend's 4.0 to change out the headgasket. I've watched a couple youtube vids (that makes me an expert, right?) but looking for tips. It's a 96 4.0 with AC/cruise and it is still in the jeep. I've already decide that the intake and exhaust manifolds will remain attached to the head. I know it's heavy to remove, but I have a cherry picker and the trade off in not risking having to deal with any snapped bolts is worth it to me (very small window of time to work on it).

my driveway is decidedly shorter. :D
