an oil leak in the dash. that's a new one by me, but I imagine that was kinda common back in the day.

I have a single NOS housing. it is the most gorgeous red hue I've ever seen. had to buy a pass side and then trade a member to get a black trimmed drivers. but it's mine now and will forever hang on the wall. (on my NOS bedside with the NOS gas door and NOS flare and NOS mudflap and NOS bumper endcap) art is art and my art is beeeeeautiful

ahhh, the ol' yahoo group. waaaaay back in the day. sending emails back and forth like cavemen. back when I had to actually buy shop manuals and leaf through them to answer questions instead of just googling. and I still remember when Tom (Aslith) asked if I wanted to take over the reigns of the Yahoo group. what an honor it was! (and still is!) but it's you guys that make the club into what it is.

I guess I'm not certain what you mean for the little ones. are you routing the soft lines past the leaf springs? or the hard lines past the leafs?

your dingy old taillights can look shiny and new if you simply hit them with some gloss clear. worked wonders on the lights I put on my trailer.

I prefer my truck to look "stockish" with flares and a bed. now, I'll trim or move or maybe even go with aftermarket flares to fit bigger tires, but I like to stay as close to the factory proportions as I can. but it's all just personal opinion. your truck should look the way you want it.

new alternator is in and we're back to where we were a week ago.

that sounds like an excellent time for a vacation.

so I've learned that Chrysler alternators need to be in the jeep in order for them to test them. good to know. I also am wondering how the brick-n-mortar stores stay in business since I can order a alternator from autozone's own website at 20% off the store price and have it at my doorstep in the morning for free.

what steel did you end up using?

when it rains it pours, right? so the alternator now refuses to charge the battery. fan-freaking-tastic. and so I shall start researching this one too. hope I can find a writeup for testing if it's the clutch. that sounds like it'd be cheaper to replace. the silver lining is that the alternator is riiiight up at the top and easy to get at. the other silver lining is that I learned this while driving to a friends house rather than the middle of detroit if I had bought that truck box, or halfway through ohio when I go back south in 2 weeks. so I guess step one is pulling it and running to autozone. orrrrrrr wait til tomorrow when the temp is supposed to drop like 20 degrees... hmmmmm.....

yeah, I'm incredibly curious as to how alike different MJs frames actually are, truck to truck. How much variation exists from the original fab processes. did any changes occur year to year.

each XJ represented a profit... each MJ represented a loss... and they were built on the same line. the math is the math. apparently AMC kept the MJ going because they thought they needed a small truck. Chrysler simply had no desire to throw away more XJ profits and so I'm actually a little surprised it even made it to 91.

oh, I totally wouldn't do it, but I am willing to provide some tips to make his journey a bit better if he decides to take it on.

if you go there, be prepared to be able to deal with fuel and brake issues. not everyone thinks to bring those types of tools.

I would happily pay more for a closer, better truck. A running/driving truck allows soooooo much more diagnoses and examination before deciding to purchase. Unless the shell is all you really want. But then I would demand all sorts of better pics of the rockers, up inside the bedsides, floorboards, etc before even thinking about renting a trailer. rust sucks and I will never buy another rotted Jeep project. Just because it's a good deal, doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea.
