my technique will work for most all rear wheel drive rigs. a permanent fulltime AWD system makes things... harder.

it appears that your prop valve is pointed the wrong way. the rod coming off the diff cover should point straight up, and the swing arm should point to the pass side.

for better or for worse, it's definitely a dana 35. to determine gear ratio, jack up one tire, put the truck in neutral, spin that tire around exactly twice and count the number of times the driveshaft rotates. 3 and a half is 3.55 just over 4 is 4.10 etc. if the axle has a posi, you need to jack up both rear tires and spin one tire around once (meaning the other will also spin around once simultaneously) and count the driveshaft rotations like before.

here's a step so you don't have to stand on the seat. and a couple neat storage ideas that drop down from the roof of the cap

that's kinda what I figured. thanks!

Mini consol cup holder CAD design

moving this over to Tech for now so more eyes will see it. -
what color is it? I'm curious if the paint code description is correct or not

update: the 24hr soak (with occasional agitation) in dishsoap and warm water seems to have removed 90% of the smell. now starting a Febreze and sun-drying regimen...

it is important to match your weapon to the task at hand. my main enemy is the briers out in the back acre. string is just about useless.

what should be saved from a renix 2.5L engine bay?

is the AC compressor unique or just the brackets? how about the AC hoses? are they available aftermarket? -

sorry, forgot to mention it's an XJ, so I'm limited to XJ things. -
Haven't thought about this stuff in a while, but I do have a ton of idea-pics from when my uncle was talking about wanting a hunting XJ. here are a few: it may not be obvious, but that solar panel slides underneath the rack.

not sure about the alternator idea (though it might be the best use of a dana 35 ever!), but water and a battery bank would be high on the list for an extended off-the-grid jaunt.

those look fantastic!

plastic weed wacker blades. I had to invent a way to adapt them to our particular trimmer, but they are pretty sweet
-
yup, the absorbancy factor is awesome
-
yup, slow motion and everything. I switched to blades a while ago so I no long have a dog in this hunt.

that's a good idea right now the topper is stored on one of my spare beds. it's a real pain to heft over to the trailer.
-
a bit pricey, but mostly I'm sharing because while it's not my ad, that's the same faux wood flooring brand/style as my bedroom. I stared at the pic for a bit and then walked over to my room to confirm. someone has good taste in Jeeps and flooring! https://www.ebay.com/itm/84-01-Jeep-Cherokee-Comanche-Wrangler-ChromeBlack-Aluminum-Wheel-Center-Hub-Caps/174364811335?epid=1011165383&hash=item2898f3e047%3Ag%3ApBUAAOSwJ7hfHfJZ&LH_ItemCondition=4|10

that part isn't new-to-the-Jeep though. the changes since before the noise were: front diff, rear diff, and the angles of the front halfshafts. Being that the pitch changes with suspension changes leads me to think the rear axle is out of the picture. Being that the front diff was empty of oil and sitting under cover behind the barn for a while leads me to think the support bearings in the diff which were the most . Should have changed them when it was easy. this is all a logical decision though, and that's good for a guess, but not good for a "I know".

me too! double thick cardboard is just the perfect blend of padding and disposable. plus provides short term protection against those little biting ants that are all over the driveway
-
are you speaking of the rear driveshaft?
