yup, MJs require a different braking procedure than most anything else because they don't have a front prop valve, but rather a rear height sensing prop valve. directions should be in the link in my signature. also in there are a couple writeups for the dual booster from a later model Jeep.

gear ratios paired to drivetrains wasn't yet standardized in 86 so it could have pretty much anything (3.31, 3.55, 3.73, 4.10). easiest way to check is to jack up one rear tire and rotate it around exactly twice while counting the number of times the driveshaft rotates. for example: 3 and a half times is 3.55 gears the 3.4 is a better built engine (it's essentially just a newer version of the 2.8), but if there's nothing horribly wrong inside your 2.8, I personally probably wouldn't put forth the effort to do the swap unless I was also swapping in the EFI. to go through that much gas I'd guess that the tank leaks. could just be the pump seal, but could also be rust. hard to say without looking. the 44 rear axle technically wasn't available in 86, but anything could happen in 3 decades so it's best to look and see. drop your vin into the registry section: https://comancheclub.com/forum/29-1986/

we don't even have to do that anymore. key-parts is making both of those items. just waiting on those cab corners! it's a weird time to be into MJs. a lot of common parts are getting hard to find, and a lot of rare parts are now just a few taps away from arriving at your door.

burping can be tricky on the old Jeeps. the temp sensor for the gauges is at the back/top of the head in a 4.0 and so a bubble there can make it look like it's overheating without actually overheating. point the truck downhill and try to bleed air out that very sensor by unscrewing it. do NOT do that when the coolant is hot, but it may be beneficial to fire up the engine once you've loosened the sensor. have a second person on hand to quickly kill the engine if anything goes wrong. is the thermostat a 195* mopar unit?

practice and get good on something that's NOT your truck... then go paint your truck. fenders are cheap. practice painting at weird angles too. practice, practice, practice.

we've got a bunch of "junkyard finds" threads if anyone wants to gather up some of the most recent ones for me to combine into a master thread. also, I got this on "all you can carry" day last month. plus crossmember, shifter, and clutch, etc. plus a steering column. plus a few other things because once you get that first thing, everything else is free. (assuming you can carry it 60ft of course)
