  1. As far as we've been able to determine, the AW4 came into play in 87 and replaced the earlier non-overdrive transmission. Best bet is to get them to read the tag on the trans.
  2. I searched for an 89 Jeep Comanche transmission and then a 2wd 4cyl.
  3. A bellhousing doesn't weigh all that much. Shouldn't be too hard if you can find a junkyard over here that will separate the housing and torque converter (and whatever else is needed) from the rest of the trans and then ship it. Try car-part.com I see there's a place in Virginia selling the whole 2wd trans for $50. I'd give them the 50 and tell them to keep the trans. :D
  4. It's for emissions more than anything else. Gas burns more efficiently at hotter temperatures, and so the faster it gets hot, the better.
  5. Yeah, see if you can get one of these. Some auto parts stores loan them out for a deposit.
  6. I believe "cold" in this instance is defined as anything below the engine normal operating temp. I know it's warm in Georgia (my sis lives there), but it's not quite that warm. :D
  7. It never hurts to measure. :D
  8. It's a skinny little front driveshaft. Just plain wussy. I doubt the rear will fit either.
  9. Sorry, but not only will the d-shaft probably be the wrong length, the shaft is of an inferior design. 86s got gipped in the front d-shaft.
  10. Interesting. It's coming from the same IP address as Tall Earnestine and mac007, both of which said the same thing. Guess I'll try banning that instead of the individual names.
  11. I'm guessing no. The ZJ and MJ frames don't share any pieces. I'm not saying there isn't a chance, I'm just guessing that they won't bolt up.

  13. car-part.com can help you out with prices.
  14. I've heard about using the lowers (with mods), but what about the uppers? Mine have 210k miles on them and if I find lowers, chances are there will be uppers there too. But will they fit? --Pete
  15. My copilot is always up for a ride. :D
  16. Could be a combination of mildly worn parts too. Search for "death wobble" and you should find a couple of old posts that list all the possible culprits.
  17. Have you ever pulled the panel off with the door open? Doing that with the door closed is hard, but possible. Having a bench makes it a lot easier (in that there are fewer bolts to undo and empty the interior).

I made little trophies out of the broken Peugeot guts. :D
  19. Cage needs more triangulation. :D
  20. A couple winters back my Dakota wouldn't idle for crap. I had to keep on the gas to keep it running. I was all worried about replacing expensive sensors and what not, but it turned out to just be a bad battery.
  21. I had that happen to me once on the passenger side. Ended up pulling off the door panel to get at the stuff inside. If I had to do it again, I'd remove the seats and center console first (I have buckets). Maybe you could spray some WD-40 (through the straw) down past the window to the lock mechanism? Or maybe that would just make a huge mess... :hmm:
  22. 9 inch axles don't match the Jeep bolt pattern. That's why they aren't as common for swapping. You need to put extra effort (money) into either changing the pattern or swapping in a front axle too. Oh, and I broke something in my 88's 9 inch last offroading adventure. Don't know what yet, but the pinion is just a bit looser than before. :hmm: Can't touch it though, as it's in line behind my '90 for a turn in the garage. Nothing is invincible, but the 8.8 is right on the 9 inch's heels for toughness.
  23. I would do one side at a time.
  24. :rotfl2: :clapping: :rotf:
