That's what my 86 is right now. :D It's plated, runs fine, but don't tell anyone that I have blocks of wood holding up the rear suspension. :teehee:
  4. Did it fix the problem?
  5. My 30" BFGS never rubbed on the 88. Ever. :hmm: Stock aluminum rims on a 2wd. Of course I was like the 5th owner by that time and the front axle is looooong gone so I can't even check if the stops were altered. :dunno:
  6. I second using the Rubicon Express drop brackets and short arms. Bolts in without cutting up your truck. :D There are plenty of guys that prefer longarms and I'm sure they'll chime in. :brows:

  8. Seeing as my only ride in this truck so far was the trip home from Ohio in the rain and with no brake lights, no clutch, no radio, no interior fan, and wipers that smacked hard into the cowl and A-piller... I'm not sure I notiuced a whole lot of road noise being trasmitted through the arms. :D But I figure it can only get better, right? I got the set for $30 shipped so I felt it was worth the experiment. I don't know what tires this truck had previous to the 235 BFGs, but there are tire rubbin' marks on the old arms. :hmm:
  9. Huh. Never noticed those little numbers before. :hmm:
  10. Where are you guys finding these numbers? :hmm:
  11. Oil splashes all over the place inside the valve cover. Chances are as soon as you fire it up the oil will get thrown out.
  12. So they started doing this after you installed new bulbs? You put double filiment bulbs in the taillights, yes? Somewhere in the back of my head I think I remember someone saying that the Haynes manual had a misprint on that. :dunno: But this is my memory so you never know.
  13. LKQ - A and R Auto Parts in Duncan, SC 1-800-922-7213 showing seven (that's right, 7) 8.8s between $200-250 :D If my math is right, they are 2.5 hrs from you. Or W J Lee Used Cars and Parts Inc. Effingham, SC 800-922-9771 Has one at $250 and should be a little over an hour drive. Pay a buddy off with beer and hit the road on your next day off. :D
  14. Here you can see that the Explorer leafs almost fit perfectly to the Dana 44 in the SUA configuration. I rounded the head off a bit... and now it sits flush: So here is the rear end in place, but not quite finished.
  15. Got the arms in! They are exactly as long (bolt hole to bolt hole) as the original arms, but the sleeves are slightly wider. I simply trimmed the sleeves on my chop saw to the right width. If you do it that way, have a bucket of water nearby and cool the assembly down a couple times during each cut do that you don't risk damaging the rubber with heat. Unfortunately, at full droop the arms make contact at the body and at the front. So I trimmed a bit off the arms: And at the axle: Plus it was a real bear to get that last hole lined up. Don't know why. But they are in. I also installed the rear Dana 44 using the Explorer leaf packs. Before I put on tires and lower it to the floor, I want to do the brake lines. So everyone will have to wait just a bit longer before we find out what happens. :brows:
  16. Did they offer to "fix" it for you? :brows:
  17. When you say "body work", does that include welding? It's a rare occurance, but people have fried electrical parts if the welding juice tries to find an alternate path or 2 around the truck.
  18. Keep looking for the 8.8s. They made a butt load of Explorers over the years and it's just a matter of finding a junkyard that doesn't view their crap as gold. car-part.com shows a bunch of v6 4.10/disk 8.8s for under $250, not sure if any are near you though. (v6 and v8 axles are identical except for the brackets you're going to cut off anyway)
  19. Lord only knows. And no one has proven that any of these images will look ok after we put them on a shirt. What's the quality of the files?
  20. The big selling points about the MJ AMC-20 is that it's stronger than the Dana 35 and an MJ one will bolt in to an MJ. Anything else would require all the same procedures (or more) as installing the Explorer 8.8 and it gives you great strength, 4.10s, and disk brakes.
  21. The title I had along with it says "MJ on a Blazer frame".
  22. Wipers, eh? I replaced the little black control box (attached to the underside of the dash with velcro) and it purged the wipers in my 90 of their demons. :D
