  1. Once upon a time I tabulated a lot of random data I've gathered on swapping a 3.4 for a 2.5. It's in a word document located here: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/jeepcomanche/files/ If you aren't a member at our old yahoo site, you may have to wait a day since I'll be on the road all of today and can't approve you until I get back home. but I'll get on it asap.
  2. Check and check. And I dumped in some of that gray bottle diesel additive. :D
  3. 31"t tires will fit the best. 32s, 33s, 34s will bring increasing amounts of effort to make them function properly but are doable. What are you planning to do with the truck once it's built?
  4. Well, looks like tomorrow I'm heading back north to Michigan. I wanted to stay through the weekend but it just wasn't in the cards. Should be a fun day of driving though. 12+ hours of just me and the dogs in the Liberty pulling a big trailer. Fun stuff. :shake: To the guys in GA that I didn't get to hang out with this trip, I should be back in August. on the plus side, this Saturday, when it's 96* here in Atlanta, I'll be chillin' in Mich with its brisk 82* :D
  5. '84-~'95 two door with the straight (not curved) slider under them are the most direct swap into an MJ using the MJ's floor pedestals. 4-door seats don't tilt forward and the curved slider will sit you up a couple inches higher than stock.
  6. I remember reading somewhere that excessive blowby can be an indicator of a sloppy timing chain/belt. It's on my to-do list for my 88 before I resort to swapping the block out.
  7. I've used the big band clamp ones too and either will work fine, even 10 years later. :D I believe I mail-ordered mine, probably from jcw.com The dang things outlived the pipe.
  8. Whatever I have, it's at home on that computer. gonna be a couple more days before I'm back there.
  9. Well, I'm about to give up all hope. Last Friday I finally talked with him he gave me an address and a time to meet him after work that day. I could not find the place for anything (had a GPS with me) and left a couple messages saying so. I've not been able to talk with him since. I've got no idea if he's ignoring me, lost his phone or what, but I've got like 2300 minutes available this month and I'm going to keep calling every day until he either picks up or I get a message saying the phone has been disconnected. sigh.... :(
  10. Stainless steel clamps are your fiends. :D
  11. While the chances are definitely much greater that it's an AX-4/5, it's possible that some 86s got the t-4/5, possibly because they had some left over or maybe the AX series were in short supply. The T-4/5 did come in a bunch of the 84/85 XJs (with no clear rhyme or reason).
  12. Had a similar vibration in our liberty that turned out to be a rear U-joint (a factory non-grease-able that ran out of grease). Is the vibration consistent with just speed? Or can you alter it by applying gas or turning, etc?
  13. I love it when I plan comes together. As to that drop of oil, all I can say is :dunno:

    big street tire?

Which size is it specifically? Can you post all the sizes for a 17" rim?
  15. I gotta imagine that's one of the best birthday presents ever. :clapping: Congrats!
  16. I did a 3 hour round trip for a year (10+ hour days, 6 days a week). Was the first year with my MJ and we did a lot of miles together. :D I can't see myself doing that again. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if I only worked a 40 hr schedule. :dunno:

    big street tire?

If memory serves me, they have more backspacing and wheel spacers would be required. :hmm: Looks like my pathetic internet connection won't let me into tire rack and the like :fs1: , so I guess my research will have to pause until I'm back home on Friday. No hurry of course, since I don't have the money to buy any tires anyhow. :shake: but like my MJs, it's never too soon to plan for my dakota's future. :D

    big street tire?

Too bad the smallest these come for a 17" rim is 285/60 (33x11"). :brows:
  19. Getting a better gear ratio is an upgrade. 3.55s will be a good improvement over the crap-tastic 3.07s. Don't fear the welding though, it's easy welding and you shouldn't have any difficulty finding a local source to get it done. Look for local muffler shops if nothing else turns up.

    big street tire?

In the front? no way. I've had 31" BFG ATs up there and it rubs quite a bit. In the rear? I measure that it'd be tight, but 32s would clear the flares. :D Yup, that's the problem I seem to be having. :( I'm just not willing to sacrifice the R/T rims for to big tire look.
  21. So yesterday, the first day in months since I last got to drive my Dakota R/T, I blew out one of rear tires on a piece of debris in the road. Cut the sidewall up nice and good. :fs1: It took a loooong time to find them (Goodyear Eagles in the 275/60/r17 flavor to match the stock front 255/55r17s) but even after installation, they just weren't big enough to give that drag racer look (only about 30.5x10.5). I've found a set of 265/60/17s, but those are even smaller, though only slightly. Anyone know of any large street tires that would go on a 17" rim? 32" would probably fit, maybe even a bit larger seeing as the suspension has like 2" of uptravel.
  22. In my humble opinion the relays are the best mod, hands down. Shouldn't cost much and should only take an afternoon to do. Plus you'll greatly reduce the amperage trying to flow through those tiny ancient wires and your headlight switch.
  23. So then this was a mis-post?
  24. That's my problem with rockyroad. The "kit" is only half a kit since control arms are very important at that height and are a significant portion of the cost in other manufacturers' more expensive (but complete) kits.
  25. mnkyboy, what are you running for control arms?
