  1. Automatics aren't my thing. :D All my trucks are stick. The factory ones seem to do alright. :dunno: I don't really hear complaints about them.
  2. According to the dealership brochure, the 2.5/stick could get the metric ton package. The 2.5/auto could not.
  3. See this post:  viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11077
  4. The 242 has an extra setting that allows you to run it in awd mode on dry pavement without breaking anything. Helps out in winter where there are patches of slipperiness here and there but most of the road is clear.
  5. XJs were never officially offered with the 242 behind a stick. :( But the 242 will indeed mate to the AX-15. I installed one into my 90 MJ. I'd be hesitant to buy a super high mileage AX-15 that had such a bad drive shaft.
  6. That's perplexing for sure. :hmm: Can you snap a picture of the trans, t-case, and the splines at the end of the input shaft? That'll help confirm everything.
  7. Man that's a thing of beauty. :D I just might need to snag some 97+ doors for one of my rigs.

    BOO!!

Sometimes work is just annoying like that. Always getting in the way of the fun stuff. :D
  9. Nope. But this isn't exactly out of the ordinary. I usually get him 1 out of every 5 tries. I get the feeling that he's just an older guy that doesn't have his cell phone permanently attached to his hip like myself. :D
  10. The guy never showed up and I couldn't get a hold of him on the phone. grrrr..... :fs1: I guess there's a ton of legitimate excuses when you're trying to haul an old truck 30 miles so I'm not freaking out just yet.. I'll be trying the phone again this afternoon.
  11. Gotcha. I haven't a clue though. No sniffer tests here in Michigan. But we've got a couple guys here who actually worked in that industry so be patient, one of them will eventually reply.
  12. Sorry. :( Installing gears is just one of those things that takes more skill/tools than the average wrench-turner has. And it costs a lot to have a pro do it. Swapping axles is usually more cost effective as long as you're staying within stock gear ratios.
  13. Do you know how to properly set up gears?
  14. I think this thread has run its course. If anyone has anything constructive to add to it, please PM me.
  15. Good, that makes me feel a bit better. In less than 24 hrs I should have some decent pictures. :D
  16. Sounds like a plan, but a sketch would help out a lot with picturing what's in your head. Every truss I see is a little different than the last and yours sounds reasonably unique.
  17. My 90 is very finicky at the connection between the battery and battery cables. One day it'll start, the next, nothing. But if I fiddle with the battery cable, it'll fire up. Someday I'll get around to replacing those old cables. :shake: Try cleaning up the connections, just for the heck of it.
  18. The police versions are very rare so I wouldn't even bother searching for them.
  19. I've never had a bad belt. :dunno: I recommend hunting down a np-242 for wintertime driving. Did you try car-part.com yet? Search under 96 XJ for the trans and t-case.
  20. Can't find them in the brochures. Maybe they were added by the dealership in order to spruce up a plain jane truck. :dunno: I'm going to be bummed if I find it was a repaint at one point in time. :fs1:
  21. Dunno. But that's as good a reason as any to flip through my dealership brochures. :D I'll still eventually need a 91+ MJ in order to own one of everything. :D
  22. Your first order of business is to find out what sort of discount you can get on GM performance parts. :D
  23. Got a hold of the seller today. He'll be delivering it tomorrow afternoon. I'm feeling confident enough to share the only photo I have:
