But it is NOT the same amount of work. The big reason why the 4.0 swap is mentioned is because all the 4.0 stuff bolts in and an entire swap can be done for the price of a donor XJ (plus a rear shaft). Swapping in a 4.3 requires a bunch of expensive and/or custom built parts to adapt it to the truck. But the 4.3 swap has been done before. Get an donor rig and start measuring for the motor mounts and exhaust and cooling (or call up advanceadapters.com of novak-adapt.com and break out the credit card) Cooling is a problem with the v8s, but the 4.3 should not be a hassle as long as you get a decent size radiator.

AX-5 gets regular ol' gear oil. :thumbsup: It's only the AX-15 that can't take the sulfur compounds.

they fit ok. They came in a long strip that I trimmed to fit (meaning the edge is no longer "finished"). They were "chromed" and I had to hit them with paint. also, I bought them like 10 years ago so there's no telling if anything has changed with their supplier. :dunno:

The angle of the rear axle in my 88 is completely wrong (points directly at the t-case). Never had any vib problems. :dunno: But I did install brand new U-joints with the axle install.

I used to recommend that too, but recently a member here had his XJ shackles invert themselves. :eek: So I've pulled it from my recommendations list. :(

just remember that the center of the diff may not be the center of the axle. I recently went through all that with my "new" 9". that's why I measure from the wheel mounting surfaces. even the backing plates on my axle weren't identical. :shake:

You can get the measurement from your truck. measure the center-to-canter dimension of the front of the leaf spring where it bolts to the truck. :thumbsup: Or the rear of the shackle where it bolts to the truck.

we went straight to online (gotta play the maps before the actualy "good" players have it all memorized. :D ). We also did some of the new coop play (which was pretty cool, but it was only vs bots, not people). There's a lot of game on that little CD, I'm just pissed that the three of us have to pass the controller to take turns playing online. :fs1:
